OK! It is official! The next California STOC group meet is...
CRESTOC!
Crestline Village, California
May 4th - 6th
Friday to Sunday
:03biker: :04biker: :biker: :06biker: :07biker:
:STOC:
Here is a quick link of the area: CRESTLINE VILLAGE, CA (http://www.crestlineinfo.com/locals.html)
All bikes, riders, and points West, East, North, and South WELCOME!
Dan (Dmulk) had the idea and it is grand! Crestline Village is in the San Bernardino Mountains and is a small lakeside (Lake Gregory) village nestled in alpine pine groves at 4000ft elevation with lodging, restaurants, shops, bowling alley, campgrounds, and lots and lots of scenic twisty roads such as the Rim Of The World Highway! All this near Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake. Just a few short hours from most major Southern California cities. Dan also has a cabin there that he may be willing to offer some accommodations for the budget-minded (such as myself). I'll leave that up to him to offer more information. Dan also snagged a website space for the event, but it has not been filled yet. We'll let you know when it is ready and the web address.
This is going to be a STOC to remember! And right after Raven's successful DesertSToc you can be assured it will be organized properly. We'll be adding links, maps, directions, restaurants, lodging, campgrounds, rides, etc. information as time goes on.
So start planning and letting us know how many are interested in going so we can get a quick head count to make reservations in the area. Also post any ideas on what you guys would like to do in the area. I understand there is fishing at the lake with proper permits. There is also Big Bear Chopper that we can visit (invade!). Maybe a bowling competition(?), raffle(?), etc... This is going to be FUN!!! Heck! I might even ride Veronica up this time! :D

Here's some great ideas and suggestions Tom (Tommyboy) gave on the "other" thread...
RE: CRESTOC: The North Shore Inn is owned (or was unless he sold it) By Bob Powers, a member of the Pasadena Motorcycle Club (which is celebrating their 100th year (1907-2007). I have never met Bob, but see his name in our roster each year. I had a place until last year almost behind him on Zell Court. Dan, you will know the street, it is the first one up the hill on the left from the 7-Eleven. My wife still "lurks" on the rimoftheworld.net website. I vote for Billy Bear's for breakfast. I never had any luck with the Loose Caboose.
Here's one suggestion for a route: From the lake take Lake Gregory Drive south to Highway 18 (Rim of the World Highway). go left toward Lake Arrowhead. Take Daley Canyon to Blue Jay and route around Lake Arrowhead. Coming out of the lake, depending on the time, you can either have lunch in the village or have breakfast in Blue Jay (not the Timberline!). Afterward, loop back up to 18 and continue east toward Running Springs and then to Big Bear Lake. It is a nice trip around the lake with plenty of places to stop if you are so inclined. If Big Bear is not for you, then drive down highway 330 and wind around to Chaparral in San Bernardino. If you have never been there, you are in for a treat - it is the biggest motorcycle dealership in California.

Sounds great, Fred!
Count on me & Kitty for this one. When you are able, info on lodging located near your event would be great. Oh, bring your bike this time! :-)
George R.
That's great George! So that's four counting you, Kitty, me and Dan. Yes! I'll be posting more information as soon as I see more interest in the event.
And heck yeah! I'll bring Veronica :06biker: this time! Won't be the party pooper on this trip! LOL. :D

I _might_ be able to make this. Will just be back from MoonSTOC and CampSTOC, also have to insert the Laughlin Run during the last weekend in April.
_And_, May 2 is our 10th anniversary so Deba might have some input. ;^)

Wow... this is going to be cool.
TommyBoy: I agree with the Chaparral idea. It's a relatively quick ride down the hill (20 mins) from my place. Awesome shop!!! You can try a bunch of stuff on, get your size, and then go online at my house (if you are out of state) and order the stuff to be shipped to your house for when you get back. Prices are better online too! Great thing is that they usually have all the stuff in stock... the place is absolutely huge!
I'll have to pass on Billy Bear's... really thought their food was pretty bad... for the last couple years my fam has been hooked at the caboose. I like your ride suggestion.
I was thinking a loop down to silverwood lake state park. will need to take a look at some maps...
Exactly how long are average rides at a typical STOC event? How often do people like to stop usually?
You will need to remember that this is my first real tourer. I have ridden crotch rockets the last 15 years... (Ninjas, Gixxers mainly)
Cheers,
<D>

This is one Cinco De Mayo event that we'll both try to make! Count on the two of us for now.
Unfortunately my brother just sold his 5-bedroom cabin at nearby Lake Arrowhead! That would have slept a lot of people.

Dang it Fred, that's cheapSToc weekend!!! I'm always looking for an excuse to get to the left coast, but I signed up for CheapSToc and can't let the other Fred down.

would a different date be possible at this point?

Fred: What would you say about moving this to the weekend of the 18th -20th?
The weather should still be good and it is the week after Mothers Day and the week before Memorial Day.... just a thought...
Glossblack06: Can you check to see what the openings look like at the inn for that weekend?
Either way, both weekends are good. I'll be able to provide a shower at my place for all the people that are camping at the grounds at the bottom of my hill.
We should definitely stick with May since the weather shouldn't be too hot, but just right for camping / BBQing.
Cheers,

Sounds great! I'll be there if I can get the time off. Unfortunately I work Friday through Sunday, so I'll have to see if I can get it off. Maybe we should have a WEEKDAYSTOC for us fools who have to work weekends and the lucky guys who are retired.

Hmmm.
This sounds good. I'll work on the Boss and see if we can't do it. I know we have some things happening around that time (family) but I'll check with the "Her", yes, that's capatilized (and for my own good too) and see what's what.
She being the keeper of the schedule and all. I just go where they point me. ;-)

We are so glad you guys are responding! This is going to be a great STOC!
Now, as for the dates... We know that it is "conflicting" with CheapSTOC, but that is in Texas. We originally intended this one for the California group, but of course all are welcomed. At this time we feel inclined to stick with the May 4-6 dates. As for it being on a weekend; most of us, including myself, only have the weekends off; so we are inclined to stick with that also. Some of the Cali group has already made reservations for the May 4-6 dates. We would hate to have to disappoint those. We'll keep an eye on the responses over the next week. So far it looks like a majority is in favor of the May 4-5 dates. We'll keep you all posted. ;)
We'll soon start getting accommodations and area info posted. In the next couple of weeks we'll start nailing down some restaurant info and event activities. I already contacted Joe and he said he would be willing to contribute some STOC and ST-Owners STuff for a raffle, which I promised the proceeds to go back to him for either his choice of donation to a charity, or/and site upkeep. Will get more details on that as time goes on. We are also considering creating a website, but this forum should be enough for sharing info. We'll ask Joe and the Mods to move this STOC event to the Event forum for centralizing. All suggestions and advice is most welcomed! :)
We know we can't possibly please everybody on dates, and places and such, but we will sure try to accommodate all who wish to attend. This STOC event is two months away and gives us all plenty of time to decide on what to do. For now the May 4-6 date is still on. If in the next week, or so we start seeing a majority drift to another date we can consider it.
We also would like to keep this on the "cheap" as some of us are on a "life budget". Dan (Dmulk) has kindly offered his cabin for some us to sleep and/or shower in. That will help; especially me! LOL. There is a campground near by, and the two motel/lodges I have seen there on the Net seem reasonable; in the $75-$150 range. We'll post more info on that soon. So as for NOW! START PLANNING YOUR RIDE!!! Waa-hoo! :biker:
Dan (Dmulk), Dana (Dteel) and I (Finewest) have volunteered to organize this STOC event. If anybody else wishes to volunteer and/or contribute your experience please do not hesitate to contact us! :)
Thanks! (Boy! I'm excited!) :D

Hey George,
We are going to have to stick with the May 4th-6th dates. I have already requested those days off and there are already people that have reservations.
I still hope you can make it!! It was great meeting "youse guys" last weekend! :)

Yeah... sorry Jim. Having problems "staying vertical" due to the sinus op I had last week.
I actually worked on this a bit today and will have more (hopefully) by this weekend.
Suffice to say that it is still happening and will probably be kept simple this time around. Some good rides, a BBQ that I will host at my place, as well as some bowling one of the evenings over in Big Bear (found out that the crestline lanes closed).
I'll try and post an updated itinerary this weekend.
Talk soon!

Jim, never fear, we're still planning on riding and making this event. I don't need a lot of prompting to go and ride those mountain roads. It should be a blast!
Since Dan is recovering and Fred is on hiatus, the chat has died down, but not the fervor for this event.
So here you go.....
Bump~~~~~Bump
It's still going on!

I am currently working on the route for the Saturday morning day ride options in Mapsource.
My plan is to have 2-3 ride options posted by this weekend with a brief itinerary.
On another note, the drywall repairs will be starting on Monday at my cabin (from the previous plumbing explosion in January and also taking the opportunity to re-insulate downstairs and replace the wood paneling.). So, things should be nice and cozy by the time this kicks off (albeit unpainted - probably won't have time for that until after CreSTOC).
If you haven't already, please go to the CreSTOC attend link and start updating the head count. I will need this as I will be purchasing the Hamburgers and Hot Dogs , etc. out of my own pocket. So if you plan to attend the BBQ Saturday evening at my place, please let me know how many people in your crew. (Of course, you will also have the option to purchase a steak or whatever to throw on the grill as you want).
Cheers!

We have about 10 people comitted at this point, so I think we are locked in on the date. Would have loved to meet up with you though! I am sure we'll get a chance to ride someday though as we are all just a "stones throw" here in SOCAL. :)
Thanks for the offer though and if things change, would love to have ya!

Yup, The main ride is happening on Saturday morning after Breakfast. All day ride from Crestline to Big Bear to Idyllwyld to Ortega 74 for a late lunch @ the Lookout.
Hope you can make it up!!
Check details out here:
Here are the official ride routes. They are in the Garmin Mapsource Format.
Please let me know what you all think.
They include:
1) CreSTOC Main ride - A 248 mile, all day, ride that will happen Saturday morning. The ride will leave my cabin around 9am (after breakfast), ride past Big Bear lake and then on south and east to Idyllwyld. We will then head west on Ortega Hwy (74), up to The Lookout for a quick lunch over looking Lake Elsinore. We will then slab it back north up the 215 to my cabin.
2) CreSTOC Mile Hi Ride - A 92 mile, ride that takes you out west HWY 138 to HWY 2 (Angelest Crest) ad up to Mile Hi Cafe for lunch. Then north east to loop back to Lake Gregory and my cabin.
3) CreSTOC Big Bear Lake ride - A 132 mile ride that takes you past Big Bear lake, down the twisties of HWY 38, up the twisties of HWY 330 and back on HWY 18 to Lake Gregory / my cabin.
The GPS routes are posted under the Ride / Events thread for Download.
Here is the itinerary:
So here is the event list. Short and sweet:
Friday
* 5-8PM Meet and Greet @ Dmulk's Cabin. If "Wyld Hogs" is on DVD by then, I'll have it running on the big screen in the living room. - Bring your own meat to grill on my BBQ. It will be hot. You can get the meat and stuff at Goodwins across from the lake. There is also a 7/11.
Saturday
* 7:30am to 9am - Breakfast @ The Loose Caboose. 23420 Crest Forest Dr (Highway 138), Crestline, Ca.
* 10am - CreSTOC Main ride - 248 miles - Crestline to Big Bear to Idyllwyld to Ortega Hwy 74 and back
* ~1-2PM Lunch @ The Look Out on HWY 74
* 6PM to 9PM - BBQ @ Dmulk's Cabin - BBQ Burgers, Dogs Snacks will be provided. Bring your own Steaks and Beer
Sunday
(Say good byes and head home if you need ... otherwise.... one final ride)
* 9am - Mile Hi Cafe ride - 91 miles - Crestline to Silverwood Lake to Angelest Crest to Mile hi Cafe for late Breakfast.
Under the rides section, I have uploaded the "official" rides in Garmin format. RickJ has also provided alternate routes. I have only listed the rides that I will be leading. Feel free to choose your own.
Since the event is looking fairly small, this shouldn't be too big of a deal and we will wing it if there isn't enough interest in the main rides. Either way, we should all have a good time. The area is beautiful this time of year and if anything, come up in the evening on Satuday for my famous BBQ burgers... our friend's kids call them a "steak between two buns"... hehe.
Any questions, please email me @ dmulk at yahoo.com or PM me.
Thanks,
<D>
PS: I will PM the address of my actual cabin along with my cell phone a week before the event, to the list of "confirmed" people on the CreSTOC attend thread.
