FYI
I just spoke with my rep at the Marriott. It turns out they did bump the block at the Residence Inn from 25 to 30 rooms due to the fact that the total room block of 80 rooms (between the two hotels), reached 80% occupancy. But, they now have 33 booked rooms at the Residence Inn and have closed that block again. They bumped the block from 25 to 30 then proceeded to over book by 3 rooms??
So, the Residence Inn is full up again (for the time being), and the Marriott proper is at 35 rooms. This means there are 12 rooms left at the Marriott. If we hit 80 rooms, and they have more rooms available, the block <may> be increased, but it's hard to say which hotel will have the rooms. It's also possible they <might> not have any rooms available after we hit 80. It's at their discretion to increase the block size at the WeSTOC rate.

I had 2 rooms reserved at the Residence Inn and had to cancel one of them, today. That should make one more available.

The bulk of the registration, about $55 - $60 covers the banquet, tax and service fees. We did our best to add as little as possible to the food charge when deciding on the rally fee.
You also get a nice nylon, zipped wallet which hangs around your neck. It has a window for you name tag, and a STOC logo printed on the back! Allan Buckshon found a sponsor that's covering the cost of the 1st 150 wallet/name tags! We sent in the order for the first 150, but since we don't know how many people are coming, we didn't risk ordering more. Hopefully everyone will register early enough that we can get one for everyone coming!!
We've already started collecting swag from the sponsors. For all you Butt Paste fans, we've even been given some Butt'r and Anti-Monket Butt paste. :p:
My graphics artist is working on the shirt designs so we can start taking gear orders.
Things are happening!! ;)

I have an unexpected trip to see Jimmy Buffett in the BWI's so my leave plans for the summer took a bit of a detour so my leave for the summer is up in the air. :D
Sorry guys seeing Buffett in the Carribean is just WAAAAAAYYYYY more important than riding bikes. :D

There is a riders meeting on the first night, (Thursday), where we'll go over rider safety and review the routes. After that, the ride days, (Friday and Saturday), have no real structure. People just break up into groups and Go Ride! All day, 1/2 day, just for breakfast, somewhere for lunch, etc. The evenings are BS sessions and groups of people getting some dinner. There are a number of great places to eat right within Redmond Town Center or within an easy walk around it's perimeter.
Some time Saturday afternoon the judges will be checking over the bikes that want to be entered in the show and shine, or farkle judging. The banquet is Saturday night and that's where the awards and door prizes are handed out.
We have the upper deck of the private outdoor hotel garage reserved for parking the bikes. People generally hang out around the bikes in the evenings, and during the days if they aren't riding, to BS. That's the best time to meet people and find a group to ride with. Being a local you could even offer to guide a group on your favorite local ride.
That being said, you could easily swing over to the hotel in Remond for part, or all of the days, and find plenty of people to ride or BS with. You definetly want to register for a WeSTOC XII banquet ticket so you can enjoy the feast and activities on Saturday night. That's also where next years event location is announced!!

Thanks for the offer Marcus! There was a board up in 2001 in Kimberley, but that's about the last time I saw something like that. The one problem with something like that is your group can get really big, really fast! Personally I like riding with a smaller group. Far fewer stops that way. It always seems to be a battle to keep too many people from joining in. I'd like to ride with everyone, but large groups just get unmanagable! That's not as big a problem though for the shorter rides.
Thursday is arrival day. I always like getting to WeSTOC early that day, if not the day before. Then I just hang out, meet old friends and make new ones as they ride in. That's also when I start trying to find a core group of people that want to do the same rides I do, or recrute my riding buddies from previous WeSTOCs to ride with me!
The riders meeting is also Thursday night this year. You can come to that and pitch your favorite ride or chose from one of the recommended rides and find people to go with you. Having someone leading your group who has local knowledge is always a plus! That or someone with a gps and the route loaded into it.
I hope to have some nice boards made up with the routes and pictures from the web site for people to review after the riders meeting. I've created all the gps files for my recommended rides which even include all the "back ways" to get out of Redmond to miss the traffic and also include the little "by ways" along the routes.
The MS Streets and Trips files and the DeLorme files which will be posted soon are a <little> less detailed. These are the files the written directions will be printed from. They are <basically> the same routes, but a bit more straight forward. Easier to follow with fewer turns, but they follow more of the larger back roads. This is the trade off for easier directions. A group following the printed directions with a local leading them would be able to take in the by ways without getting lost. You'd be a valuable asset to a group like that!!

The rides pages for the WeSTOC XII website have been updated to account for the road closures within Mount Rainier National Park this summer. Several of the 'Mountain Passes" rides were affected. These changes have actually resulted in a few extra options for <some> of the rides in the area. For example, there are now two routes to Mount St. Helens, the quick scenic way, or the more scenic Chinook and White Passes route. The more scenic route adds 75 miles to the trip, but offers more to look at!
You'll find version 1.1 & version 1.1 'revised' routes posted at http://www.stocrallies.com/westoc12/rides.html. These represent the original routes and the 'revised' routes due to the flood damage in the park. We've posted both just in case the road crews finish up ahead of schedule.
We currently have Garmin City Navigator v7 & v8, City Select v7 & MS Streets and Trips files posted. DeLorme files will be posted soon.
Also, we'll be opening up the 'Gear' page shortly so you can start ordering your WeSTOC XII T's and mock T's!!

I've created a small website featuring some of the great roads in the farther reaches of the State of Washington that aren't listed in the rides on the WeSTOC XII website. The intent is to give WeSTOC XII attendees coming from out of State some ideas for their routes to or from the Pacific Northwest.
Every couple of weeks I'll be adding a new featured road to the site. This weeks ride is Rattlesnake Pass, the road from Clarkston to Enterprise Oregon. This road is one of 5 written up in the June 2007 issue of Rider Magazine. Have a look!

I tell you... for anyone going to WeSTOC XII... you must hit the roads through Mount St Helens and Mt Rainier (if all still passable). I didn't think anything could come close to riding the West coast however, riding through the forests of the PNW is very nice.. and the coast isn't far away, duh...
This is at least one good reason for making it to WeSTOC, the journey there is a great one no matter where you start.

Not a coincidence. I even "lifted" some of their text and pictures for the web page. :)
The two routes I've featured to date are roads not on the WeSTOC XII "rides" page. The other rides in the article and Canyon Road ARE featured in WeSTOC XII routes.
The idea of the "Roads to WeSTOC XII" site was to let poeple know about rides they should work into their trip to and from WeSTOC if they can. Some of the other rides in the article won't be included on this site because they aren't really "on the way" for anybody. At least not if you're coming relatively straight in. That is to say, I don't <think> anyone will ride the Olympic Penninsula on their way to WeSTOC unless they're coming in on a ferry from Hawaii or have a lot of time on their hands. ;)

I'm thinking it'd be better to visit him either before or after, and not during WeSTOC with a bunch of bikers in tow! Make a big loop on the peninsula.
There are just way too many cool places to visit between Southern California and Redmond. Ca north coast, Crater Lake, Columbia River Gorge, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood. I'm not sure 2 weeks vacation will be enough! :)

OK, I just ponied up and bought shirts! Now I need to be sure and have $98 worth of fun that weekend!
I'm a local, too - live in downtown Seattle - and I have a favorite backroads ride (all paved) to the NE of the city. I'd love to lead a (small) group out to High Bridge Road, Monroe, Woods Creek Road, Granite Falls, Jordan Road, Arlington, Pioneer Highway, Silvana, Jordan Road, Marine Drive and Marysville. It's a favorite "escape route" for me for a day ride.
I'll work up a route in Streets & trips and see what the mileage is. OK, it's 135 miles, 4 hours. Start & end at the Residence Inn. And I set up the route so we get to ride the best section, High Bridge Road, twice! The route is mostly rural, with some rural suburban, and the only in-town parts are in Redmond, Marysville and Everett.

This weeks installment of 'Roads to WeSTOC 12' has been posted. The featured route is the 35 mile run between Colville and Tiger on Highway 20.
http://koczarski.com/Roads2WeSTOC/
Only 6 weeks to go! There are currently 126 registered for this year's WeSTOC in Redmond. If you haven't booked a room, or registered for the event, go to http://www.stocrallies.com/westoc12 and reserve your place at the biggest STOC event of the year!
The cut-off date for our hotel room block is next Wednesday, July 4th. At that time the Marriott <may> choose to close the room block at our discounted rate and release the unused rooms for other events. I was told today that the group rate for these same rooms has increased to $175/night! If you’re even <thinking> about coming to WeSTOC 12 I would suggest you book a room. You can always cancel if you change your mind.
Also, you have until August 3rd to pre-register for WeSTOC. After that you'll have to pay the "at-the-door" price of $85. Save $15 and register now.
The shirt order was sent in over the weekend. The final tally was nearly 190 shirts! Thanks to everyone that ordered!! I’ll be calling the shirt vendor in the morning to discuss the production schedule and should know more about when I’ll be shipping out shirts to those who opted for direct shipping.
Donations for the WeSTOC prize fund are continuing to arrive. I received a limited edition ‘Gordon Gerbing’ jacket liner and thermostat today from Gerbing! Someone is going to be very happy when their number is drawn for this prize during the banquet.

Good news and bad news.
The good news is the southern portion of highway 123 near Mount Rainier and the Steven's Canyon road have both been opened!
The bad news is I have to rework some of the maps and Mapsource files accordingly. :(
I'll be updating the route files and posting updates ASAP. We'll also have them available at WeSTOC as well as updated maps on display.

BUT ONLY UNTIL JUL 31/07. So now is a great time to pick up the DH books that you don’t have, or buy them as gifts.

I just stopped by I-90 Motorsports (one of the WeSTOC XII sponsors), and talked to them about providing service, mainly tires changes during WeSTOC XII. They agreed to the following (approximate), prices for tires, wheel removal/install, mounting and balancing. You need to schedule your work within the next 1-1/2 weeks. Basically they need a couple of weeks warning to insure they'll have your tires in stock, and have people available to do the work. The prices are approximate until you verify with them whether you have an 1100 or a 1300, and what tire size is appropriate for your bike.
Meztler Z60 - $376
Dunlop D205 - $393
Avon Storm - $355
Bridgestone BT020 - $350
You can contact I-90 Motorsports at 800 883-9987 or 425 391-4490. Ask for Brent.

The Marriott hotel hosting WeSTOC XII has released the last few remaining rooms in our block back to the hotel. This means there are no longer any rooms available to us at the discounted rate. I’ve put a call into the hotel to see if we can add rooms back to the block, but at this point we’re full up. I’ve received an email from a potential attendee asking if there is anyone out there with a room they will not be using. Please email if this is the case and I’ll see if we can transfer the room to someone else, rather than releasing it back to the hotel.
We are also quickly approaching 150 registered for WeSTOC XII. I only have 175 of the WeSTOC XII wallet/ID badges available. The first 175 to register will receive these nifty wallets which are great to use when riding. Per the WeSTOC XII website, the $70 pre-registration fee will expire on August 3rd. After that, the fee will increase to $85. A few days after that the hotel will be asking use to commit to the number of attendees at the banquet. Once this number has been given to the hotel we will no longer be accepting banquet ticket purchases. We will NOT be selling tickets to the banquet the week of WeSTOC. The banquet is an ‘all you can eat buffet’, and once the hotel purchases the food we will not be selling tickets to the meal. We want to insure there will not be a shortage of food at the banquet as has happened in the past due to unregistered attendees showing up the day of the event wanting to buy tickets.

I haven't added any new runs to the 'Roads to WeSTOC XII' site this week, but I did add some weather windows to 6 different locations around the State. One stop shopping for your WeSTOC weather. I've covered Redmond, Mount Baker to the north and Mount Rainier to the south. Two locations in Eastern Washington and one on the coast. The temperatures can really vary across the State so be sure and come prepared! We'll be discussing how to do this in more detail at the Thursday night riders meeting.
http://koczarski.com/Roads2WeSTOC/
The Marriott has agreed to leave 3 rooms in our discounted block until this Friday, July 20th. After the 20th, or if these rooms get taken, they have agreed to <possibly> extend the group rate further on a case by case basis, but with no guarantees. Email me if you try to get a room at the Marriott, but can't get the $115/night rate. If they can get their typical rate for rooms in the last two weeks before WeSTOC they will NOT extend our discount to procrastinators. Be sure and book a room if you think you might be coming.
Only 3 weeks to go! We have 150 registered at this point. 25 left before we run out of the nifty WeSTOC XII nametag/wallets. Be sure and register to insure you get one!
The Destination Highways book deal is good through the end of the month. Check the 'Roads to WeSTOC' site for details.

There are 75 parking spots that are expose to the sun. So we should be able to park 2 to a spot and fit 150. I'm sure we can easily pack in more though as there are spots that aren't striped for cars, but will allow bikes. Plus, for the photo opp, we can park in the isles and take pictures from the hotel.
Should be an OK place to park, up out of the way of people strolling the mall. Near the pool, and close to the Marriott hotel, just across the street from the Residence Inn.

1. Per the WeSTOC XII web site, the rally fee increases to the "at the door" price of $85 on August 3rd.
2. On Thursday, July 26th, the rally fee becomes non-refundable as we are committing our number of attendees to the Marriott.
3. The "at the door" price is available from August 3rd until the end of rally registration on August 9th at 7:00PM. After that time NO rally/banquet tickets will be sold. This is to insure we have enough of the excellent Marriott food for everyone. NO tickets to the banquet will be sold on Friday or Saturday August 10th or 11th.

Speaking of STs parked together, there was a brief not here a few days ago about trying to get Every color of Every year of Every ST in one spot between the group pic and the banquet.

The recent calcelation at the Residence Inn of three rooms wasn't correct. Clay only had two rooms, two nights each. There is also another wrinkle here. We have separate room commitments at each at each hotel. Somehow the Residence Inn already bumped their WeSTOC block by 7 rooms beyond the agreed to level. This caused 7 additional people to book there, rather than the Marriott. We <were> fine on our commitment at the Marriott, but with all the recent cancelations at the Residence Inn and people moving from the Marriott to the Residence Inn, we are dipping too low at the Marriott and are in danger of being surcharged.
So, the Residence Inn will allow (1) of Clay’s rooms to be taken for 3 nights, but the second room is not available to us at the WeSTOC rate. This room has already been taken. If someone wants to pay full rate for a room at the Residence Inn they are free to do so, but again, we’d rather people book at the Marriott so we fulfill our commitments there.

We <might> be able to still get you the group rate at the Marriott, but it will depend on the hotels occupancy at the time you make the reservation. Also, if any of you have made reservations that weren't at the group rate at either hotel, please drop me an email.
You may have heard there will be some lanes closed on I-5 just south of the I-5/I-90 interchange in Seattle. These closures do not start until the night of Friday August 10th at 10PM. These closures do not directly affect any of the WeSTOC XII routes, but they may affect the traffic flow on SR405 along the east side of Lake Washington once they begin, but probably not until rush hour on Monday, August 13th. Saturday traffic is generally lighter, and SR405 does have HOV lanes which motorcycles are OK to use. Again, none of the WeSTOC routes use SR405, but your route leaving WeSTOC <may>. This is not a problem though if you are leaving Sunday the 12th. There are better (more fun), ways to head south from Redmond. Looks at the Rainier routes, or see me at WeSTOC for further info.

I have to ask this, I checked the rosters for both events and can't see anyone other than myself that is going to ONSToc from WESToc. Are my eyes failing me or am I really the only person going to both????

Hey Mac, I can tell you one thing that isn't failing you, and that's your butt!
See you at ONSTOC.

I had an unplanned need for tires near WeSTOC today. Spoke to Brent at I-90, and he was sold out of everything but a couple of ST1100 front tires. He has more on order, but is not hopeful they will arrive before next week. He was as helpful as he could be under the circumstances.
So I called our other WeSTOC sponsor dealer, RIDE Motorsports. Even though I had not pre-arranged anything, they were extremely helpful and accomodating. No choice as to tires for me, they had D220s and I took them. They even gave me 20% off their normal price, but it was still a bit spendy at around $500 for tires and labor. They were lighting fast, worked me right in, and the whole job was done properly in under two hours for both front and rear.
The manager was eager to help out any of you others that may be in need, and mentioned they had held the service schedule open for WeSTOC.
Even though it was a bit expensive, it was a great deal for being in a pinch!

Hmmm. Bill Pratt had talked to them the other day and I <thought> they had agreed to basically the same tire pricing. Both I-90 and Ride are owned by the same guy.
