Been busy with the rodeo last month or so.
There are two paved routes shaping up for Saturday.
One riding the 3"s with a lunch break, and one going out west to Alley Op land for Mexican food.
The dual sport route with head southwest to Pumpville with a stop for lunch along the Pecos river.
Still looking for a cheap place for dinner Saturday night, might have to choose Coppers BBQ.

Called the Legends Inn and there are two single smoking rooms left and the Hills down the street has plenty of rooms left.

Maybe my best buddy in the world is moving to San Marcos, TX. 1146mi by slab from Yuma. I don't know that he will be there by CheapSToc, but the temptation is high to go visit. Maybe...
If not then, late June...I don't have a scheduled ride for June:)

Okay. All right, fine! There - reservations made.
Looks like I got the last room at the Legends. It was a smoking room (room for a joke there, no pun intended) but they said they'd just redone the carpet and drapes. I won't be doing anything but sleeping there in any case.
I have to wonder about one thing though. When I called, Kathy at the front desk said, "Didn't I just register you the other day?" Coop, you or Pooc haven't been playing with the phone again have you?
I'm in. :hotpepper :woo:hotpepper

You will going through a small town called dripping spring on 290. There is a Mobil station at the intersection of US290 and FM12 that could be a good meeting place if you want to meet and ride over together. I have not heard from Joseph or Sparky yet so not sure of their plans but Id be happy to join you.
Be careful on 620 west of 183...gets busy and lots of crazy drivers that don't watch for two wheeled vehicles. Take 620 to 71 west to 3238 (hamilton pool road) to FM12 into dripping springs. That will get you out of alot of traffic for a little while anyway.

Not good for riding longer distances a few hours from home with out much backup.
After three days I am walking and going to try a short ride around the neighbor hood and then try a little further.
Maybe its time for a wingabago but with three wheels LOL

Been watching the threads and this sounds like a fun ride. Do you folks just meet at some hotel parking lots, restaurants or whatever, like a breakfast ride, then plan short day rides? Guess I’d better try and get a hotel now since I bet that area of Texas gets converged on by all the weekend warriors. Like to see how some of you pack for camping-out. Anyone coming through Ft. Worth?

Howdy DHTracker,
Last year everybody met at the Legends Inn in Junction. There are planned rides but I would not necessarily call them short. You can plan to ride with friends, go on your own and meet for breakfast/lunch somewhere, or just go your own way as short or long as you like. Evenings we get together for dinner and to discuss the day's rides and BS. It isn't very structured (I'm speaking of CheapSTOC) and that's probably a good thing. There are some awesome roads south of Junction and in the general area. Last year there were a lot of othe riders on the road but it wasn't so crowded that it interfered with the fun.
Try it - you'll like it - but I think the Legends is already full. Someone else might have a suggestion as to where to stay and I do believe there are some Foat Wuth riders going. :D

The Legends was full but they were referring folks to the Hill Motel down the street.
CheapSTOC is very laided back or as some would consider disorganized. Basically I pick a cheap place near good motorcycle roads and throw out a few suggestions on rides and eating places and you go solo or hook up with others.
Hope to see you there.

Unfortunately, there just is no way I'm going to make it this year. I started out in Chantilly, VA on Wednesday after our work all-hands - and found a cracked valve stem. Half a day later, and I got a local shop to replace that, but now I'm about 6 hours off-schedule.
Today - rain, cold and more rain, followed by the electric vest getting an intermittant open circuit. Cold! That's killed my time on the road; had to keep stopping to warm back up. So, I'm still over a thousand miles away, more rain and cold in the forcast for tomorrow and no chance of making it there. Argh.
Sorry I'll miss y'all - I'm calling it a week and heading for home.

The room is a double, non-smoking, if anyone wants to split cost, room 42
needs a room mate. I should get there at 3:00 - 4:00 PM from Pearland, Texas. Look me up if interested. Just don't come banging on the door after 10:00 PM.

Okay, my bags are packed and I'm on the road again (thank you, Willie) in a couple of hours. I'm having lunch with a friend in Austin and should be at the Legends Inn about threeish.
Note to Coop: I have my shirts packed in a special lead lined bag so don't worry about the radiation. And it doesn't hit critical mass until at least 4 shirts are involved. :D :nuke1: :D
See y'all there.

PS Gotta admit I feel funny making this post as I envision a tragic fall on the way to CheapSTOC and everybody remarking as to how "it was his last post". Spooky. Sends chills down the spine.

I didn't have room for the shirt, but have packed extra dark sunglasses. I expect they'll see the Legends' parking lot glow from I-10.
Ride careful everyone. Posting on twtex.com about a rider that was life-flighted after hitting a deer near Vanderpool.

Got home from Cheapstoc uneventful. Sorry I didnt socialize too much but this head cold took all the energy out of me and I actually spend alot of time in my room sleeping. Did get to ride a little with Peyton (Sparky) and Linda and had a great time doing so. Thanks to those guys for being good riding partners....sorry again for passing you guys on the 3's but I just couldn't take being behind those harley guys any longer. Hope you guys made it home safely.
Got some cheezy pics and will get them posted soon.

Got home around noon. Uneveventful (I needed a day like this) - slabbed it on I-10 most of the way, but took a turn off at Luling for a nice, relaxing end to the ride.
Had a good ride Saturday with Preston, Larry & Ed, though I'm still wondering just how good that Mexican restaurant in Iraan might have been... And, forgot my camera, duh. (Can't remember why I took it out of the tank bag.) Too bad, since I would have had some great shots of what to do in the case of a water landing. You'll have to ask one of them how good my William Macy impersonation was ("I'm Ok; I'm Ok!").
Thanks Dave!
Keith,
You have turned into a neatness freak! For goodness sakes, at least get back to the motel before you wash the bike. LOL!! It was good to see you again and I'm glad you're okay.

Left Junction solo and plotted an indirect course back to Katy. Menard, Mason, LLano, Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Austin then changed to direct route made it back home about 2:30.
Thanks to all for making this another enjoyable cheapSTOC for me.

Thanks to all for making this another enjoyable cheapSTOC for me.
Thank you for putting it together! Good to meet new people and to re-new friendships with others.
I left at 6:30 and got home a little after three. Would have made better time, but my vision had been impaired by the brightness of those shirts . It should be back to normal in a day or two....

+1. It was a great trip. I liked the motel also (the Legends), inexpensive yet clean and located close enough to store and resturant to walk. Had a good time.

I left at 10am after letting Becca(sp?) take my ST out for a little spin. Same ol' mist and 72 degrees as the day before until I hit Dripping Springs. I found I preferred the clouds and mist to the baking sun. I got home at 2:30.
I have to say this was the best CheapSTOC ever, bearing in mind it is only my second. Thank you again, Dave, for putting it together. I know how much effort is involved (and then you have to pull a new plan out of you-know-where when the pizza guy doesn't come through.
I don't have any pix of the various "loud" shirts but I know others do. Personally, I think Coop and I tied - his was wilder; mine was dressier (if such an attribute can be applied in this case).
Arlene is thrilled at the pix of me on a red Goldwing, no thanks to Coop for writing her a note telling her it was okay for me to buy one.:D :nuke1:
Great folks, great riding, great time - what more could you want?
Fred
BTW, a few of our distaff attendees thought we attended "WetSTOC" last summer. I can tell you that sure as heck gave us some ideas!:hotpepper

Linda and I had a great time at CheapSToc this year. We arrived home at 4pm after a delayed start this morning. It was nice spending time with some old friends and meeting some new friends.

The ugly:

The only key I had with me broke off in the right saddle bag. The lady in the lobby of the hotel called Porky the local lock picker to get the broken piece out of the lock, Porky then called someone out of bed to open up the True Value Hardware store to make a key. Only problem was they didn't have the correct blank. We made a custom key using a blank for a Nissan. The blank was too short and Porky and I customized it using die grinder. The key looks awful and works perfect.
The good people of Junction made what was turning into a real bad day into just another part of another adventure.
I won't be leaving home without a spare key again!

I know people are going to ask so just to set the record straight, I am not running for a Moderator position. Between Coop, Tommy Boyd (the guy nice enough to swap bikes with me for a test ride, and Pooc here is the obligatory photo along with a flower/windmill pic. It was the only good shot out of many on a miserable early morning with flat light (the windmill, that is).

looks to me like you already have that spare key...
No one will believe it could possibly start the bike!
:-)
Congrats on your good, bad (I think those shirts should be) and the Ugly.

Fred,
You look natural on a Goldwing. Now if it was only red....hmmm!!

Coop, I look unnatural in any setting!:D Besides, that Wing in the picture is Black Cherry Red.
Fred
BTW, Arlene, laughed her head off at your note. You've made a new friend and may possibly have gained a shirt maker.
It's a pity Mother Honda doesn't see fit to build Arlene's favorite Goldwing. CheapSTOC was a hoot! Do you think we should let Dave be Larry and we could be his brother Darrell and his other brother Darrell? LOL!!

Does anyone remember the web address of those guys taking pix on the Three Sisters? I thought it was tamafoto.com but that's obviously wrong.
Wifey doesn't believe my bike can lean. She doesn't know about the highside I nearly had paying attention to the camera instead of the curve. :D

I went through 22 pages before I found mine under Sport Bikes. I'd swear I was leaning way more than that!
