I gotta ask. I put the Stebel on several months ago along with the inner cowl. For some reason I cannot get that inner cowel back on. I have spent more time with that silly thing and now have it off, but i swear I had it on before. I have replaced the thermostat and coolant and had the radiator off but that shouldn't make it hard. Gads, it was easier to do the radiator than this tupperware. Any one else?

bobsblu,
what is causing it to be a prob? Just the other day I took off the inner cowl on the left side to see if I could install a radar detector there. easy off, easy on really.

There's a couple of tabs at the top that go in the pocket area, there's also a tab that goes in near the radiator.

sorry cant think of anything else that may help without knowing more about whats wrong...

regards,

I am on the right side, at least as I sit on the bike. I dunno. It's driving me nuckin futts!!! I installed the stebel on the outside of the original horn brace but I have modified the inner cowl to accomadate it. It should go right in. My problem. Worst comes to worse, I'll just leave the inner cowl off and attach the temp indicator to the mirror! GEEZE! I'll take a crack at it tomorrow.

All of the above!!! (or below) Just frustrating. I got the left side on by just putting the whole thing together. The right side just doesn't work that way. The Air sensor was attached to the mirror on the teather hole!! I have that set aside. The other site has put Rob's info up!! good news.
When I put this thing together the last time, all of a sudden it just got done??! A little patience goes a long way with this tupperware.

PS i would not attempt to rescue the cat! :D

Missing any torque wrenches? Air impact tools? Old thermostats? Is the family cat present and accounted for?

Does the reinstalled upper fuel tank with the new hose look mostly straight?

Plastic is essentially a fluid. Those pieces have been off the bike so long they might have changed shape. Might look like a Connie when it's all back together.

Sorry, just having fun. You'll figure it out.

Hey, watch out for that outside air temp sensor when you are messing around with the right upper inner cowl. You might want to order one now... :D

Went down this AM and looked it over carefully. What I have learned from this bike and the tupperware is that patience and paying attention to detail will reward. I was trying to put the inner cowl on just out of kilter a little in what seemed to be logical. The frustration mounted and the mistakes continued. All back together as of 1/2 hour ago and it starts!!!. Thanks to many but esp MFN and LEO. Don't know if I will ever do this again but I probably will.
I learned; how to use a torque wrench, take off the wheels with care, get to the rubber mat, new body positions :D , about the fuel connector under the seat, the innercowls, and proper sequence is important on all things.
I learned that an extra bolt or so is not good. I learned the cam covers are tricky to re-secure. I also learned that VI and VA are not going to be done by me, at least in this decade!!

<<Changed the oil and filter (rotella syn)
<<changed the final drive oil (mobile one 75/90)
<<changed the thermostat (TCTOM), found the loose hose flushed and cleaned the radiator while it was off.
<<revamped the screws on the Airbox covers
<<Discovered TB insulator clamp nuts missing (two on right side)and replaced them. the bolts were lying on the rubber mat!!
<<Put on Michelin PR tires and inspected/serviced front and back wheels & axles; inspected brake pads. @ 10K they are fine
<<Replaced the fuel hose under the seat. (over stressed it)
<<Replaced the 4 hex wrench pinch bolts with hex head on front wheel
<<installed "back off" brake lites
<<12 volt receptacle in right pocket
<<"ventilated" the inner-cowls; altho I did not seemed to be bothered by the heat that pocket sure got hot.
<<Stebel horn
<<Kisan Self cancelers
<<MCL, blades, RAM mount, foot pegs
<<bygbars for tippover protection
<<motolights on brake caliper
<<clearview shield
<<turbocity FPR and Air box (Yeah, it helps)
<<Spencers seat mod with "dead sheep" cover
<<Pirate lair back rest and luggage rack (use T-Bags instead of top box)
<<Fenda Extenda (did a crappy job with the glue, thankfully hard to see)
<<Honda heated grips
<<took off the Staintunes and replaced with the original pipes. Quieter for those trips in the woods

All these things were not done on this last adventure, but the majority would not have been done without this board and the help of the afore mentioned.

The best safety features:
Self cancelers
tip over bars
motolights
horn

The best comfort:
Spencers seat mods
MCL blades
heated grips

Hi Bob

I had similar problems with my custom (i.e. hand-made) mounting of 2 Blaster horns. I ended up doing a lot of bending and twisting to get them to fit into the very limited space.

I also found that with the horns tucked away under the fairing, this limited their volume, so I used a grinder to do 2 things:

I cut a couple of slots in the left inner cowl. This allowed the sound to "get out" more easily, and gave me a few more millimetres for the edge of the horn's trumpet (see pic 1);
I ground away some of the trumpet end itself so that it didn't stick out too far! (see pics 2 & 3)
These mods worked a treat.
Cheers
John

Hey John - If you catch this poST, what did you use to cut the slots in your inner cowl? I've got a STebel Nautilus mounted up there, and reckon that's a great way of letting a few more of the 139DB's out into the open!

FYI I used a 1" drill and just poked many holes in it to allow the air to come thru. now, the pocket on the right side doesn't get near as hot. I then simply connect some of the holes by passing a dremel tool between the holes where needed. I am not sure I really needed the holes on the left side but I did it any way. I didn't have the heat issue so much except in the right pocket where i wanted to keep the phone and the camera.
