Ok...total noob here.....do I want to try and tackle my first hydraulic change myself? Or do I bite the bullet and pay the dealer?

Look in the ST1300 articles section on this site. There is a very detailed PDF on doing the procedure. :)

Here in Central Ca. we have a lot of low-rider cars. Cars with Hydraulically adjustable suspensions. When I saw Hydraulics in the heading, I started to laugh. I think I have just discovered a new FARKLE. Jumping ST's. Can you imagine 36 inches of suspension travel and hydraulic cylinders front and rear. Two big Diesel truck batteries in your Top Box and hydraulic pumps in you panniers. You could put the switches on your ball mount and let you lap-top control the program. Just imagine setting at a traffic signal and you ST jumping 5 or 6 feet straight up in the air. Then you could alternate between you front wheel and your rear wheel. COOL Hugh!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

The clutch is very easy to do, brakes are more involved but doable for inexperienced wrenches like me. LEO 24x7 has a 30 page post on the issue.
