Hmmm... I went to a local sports good store this weekend (BIG 5 here in the states) and picked up a small Typhoon hydration back pack (similar to a camel back) - holds two liters and cost about $14. Lifetime warranty.

Also picked up some under armor.... but that's another thread... :)

hmmm not sure if you guys know this, maybe you do.

starbucks has (or use to have) a coffee cup that fits perfectly in the left hand fairing pocket. It's a metal cup with a handle, it's more narrow at the bottom then the top, kinda expensive, but as I said before, fits perfectly.

good luck,

+1 on the starbucks mug

BTW, someone recently found a bicycle cup holder at Walmart made by Bell for $4 that looked pretty good.

Cycle gadgets has a cup holder. I've seen a couple of us have them mounted and pics are on a thread somewhere.

How about a sweet, young thing to ride behind you and hold it for you?

Oh, you mean a permanent mount cup holder.:)

RAM has one (http://www.ram-mount.com/mount/cup_holder_mount.htm) with a gimbal on it that'll keep you from spilling your latte all over the tank.

Good post. I have been wondering about that since I bought the bike. In the summer in the south I need to drink a ton of water just to stay even.

I am going to get one of those camel back type of things.

Some advice for Camelback users / wearers - Firstly, it must be a newer Camelback model with the large mouth / filler orifice. Freeze two of the 12 ounce plastic water bottles... Once frozen, cut the plastic off, insert frozen cylinders into the Camelback, top off with refridgerated fresh water and Voile'! Cold water that lasts all day!! Learned this trick while desert riding on my XR 400... Works perfectly -

I keep meaning to buy the gimballed one from Ram. It's all on my list, I'll probably order it next week when I'm out of town so I can install it next weekend. I need to power and mount my TomTom Rider too.

Here's a pic of my drink holder (http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Roadcrafter-One-Piece-Suit-p-16133.html).

I carry a 2-liter hydro pac (~$12 complete, from Wally World camp dept.) in the right breast cargo pocket.

Great idea, Spike. I just buy a fountain drink a time or two a day and fill it with ice. I drink the drink and pour the ice in my hydration (cheap not camel) pack. Your idea cuts that out.

The hydration pack is necessary in this part of the world. If you get behind on any given day you CANNOT catch up. Dehydration can kill here.

George: You fooled me. I thought I was going to get a real up close look at your tank bag:) With the stero system...

I used a Bell bicycle drink holder, the one with the adjustable rubber strap, hacksawed off the top section and mounted it using the master cyclinder clamp bolt. work good, not obstrusive. Sorry no pics...

I put a "Butler" (some refer to it as a "bike butler") on my ST1300. It's the one the Gold Wing guys use. It mounts to the brake (or clutch) bolts - actually, you get new bolts. There are a couple of spacers that hold it away from the brake lever assembly; it cut them in half (and replaced the bolts with shorter stainless ones from Ace Hardware) to move the assembly closer to the bars, but it would work either way. There's a plastic wing nut that lets you remove most of the drink holder, but I leave mine in place all the time now. It comes with a 20 oz insulated cup, but also holds a 44 oz QuikTrip cup just fine. Kind of expensive as I recall, but what isn't?

+1 for the Butler
I've used them for years on the Wings. Butt ugly, but they work great.
Only don't put a slushie in one, it'll freeze very quick, don't ask how I know....:o:

I like the RAM product... decent price and not as cheesy looking as some other options.

Has anyone actually installed it on the ST and is using it?

I helped a friend install one of the RAM units on his Ducati ST3. We used one clutch lever brackets, attached to a handlebar clamp. Ugly as sin, but functional. (I have one on my DRZ400S - works fine.) Should work better on the ST1300 than the Duc. The "Butler" looks much better, and works better. It's cheaper, too, figuring the cost of the RAM drink holder and a ball mount. If you go with the RAM unit, expressmounts.com has excellent service.

I used to use something like the butler in my younger touring days, we called it a bar bouy. It was originally designed for boats. I think the coolest drink holder is the one using the Ram ball. I have a ball in the center of my MCL bar riser, I use a small clamp to connect it to the swivel cup holder. Check these out at MotorcycleLarry.com He also sells replacement clutch and brake reservoir covers with holes to screw in a ram ball.

Buy a minivan, or a Wing :p:

I have never had one, but if for coffee just cut a hole in your left fairing pocket cover, it will even keep it warm :p:. On my ST11 I could just unzip the tank bag a bit and flip in the top, just to make a big enough hole to cradle a cup nicely... nothin' fancy but it worked for the morning commute.

Camelbacks and their ilk are the greatest. After switching from water bottles to a Camelback on my bicycle, I will never go back. They work perfectly for the motorcycle, too, and I can go to most fast food places and fill it up with ice and water for free.

+1 for the wally world cup holder. I have mine mounted on the clutch bracket. I used the original bolts and only use one mounting hole in the cup holder and it works great. I've been using it for over a year with no ill effects.
