I was all primed to buy a 2003 ST13 till I got to this forum. 90% of the posts are heat related. I'm not so sure now. Does the 1100 get just as hot? I want to completely enjoy my new bike, which ever model it is. Thanks. Mo

The next step is to write the check, ride the bike and enjoy.

Whether or not the bike has a heat problem is an entirely subjective thing that depends on what clime you live in, how much gear you wear and your own personal definition of "hot." You'll also find a few threads started by people who bought even though there was this perceived problem and found it not to be an issue.

Honda did make some minor heat shielding changes in 2004 that can be retrofit to a 2003.

My riding buddy put 13,000mi on an '03 in the summer of '04. Yuma to Chicago to Kansas City to Chicago to KC to Sturgis to Yuma to KC to Daytona to KC to Yuma. Home before Labor Day. Air temp when he left about 112f. Air temp when he returned about 115f. Heat was not a factor for him...

You pays your money and takes your chances. I'd go ride, think I will!

You need to ride one and make up your own mind. This forum is far from a proper sampling of all ST13 owners and many of us do not have heat issues with our bikes. The one's that do, tend to be very vocal about it.

The pockets do get warm; however, I've carried cell phones, work security badges, camera's, garage door openers, sunglasses, and various other whatnot's with no issues. After reading some of the posts, you would think there was a nuclear reactor core inside them (my dylithium crystal farkle is now in the right pocket).

I feel no heat on my crotch, thighs, legs, or feet outside of what I would normally feel on a triple digit Texas summer day while riding a black bike. Others feel some heat and some posts make it sound like they are standing in front of a flame thrower.

The jest of this post is do NOT judge the ST13 based upon the forum threads. Ride it and find out for yourself.

I can only comment on the St1100 but having experience with the 2002 1100 I never ever ever felt excessive heat.
Take Care,
Craig

The pockets to get rather warm on mine. I only notice the heat during the summer on the right side at my ankle when the temps get over 95F

Mo,

Let me give you a hint. If you really think that 90% of the posts on THIS SITE are heat related for the ST1300 drop it from your shopping list because you're just to sensitive to heat. :)

However, if you re-examine things you might find out that there is more to this bike you'll like then dislike.

I hope you stick around to see the difference.

I would also say it could be where you are from.
In the PNW heat is NEVER an issue for 9 months out of the year more heat would be GOOOOOD.

With the 1300cc engine, no matter what bike you get you'll feel some heat. The ST is a great bike and once you're on the road you'll forget all about the heat. Good luck.

I can tell you for a fact that 90% of the posts on this site involve owners of silver, red and black 1300s trying to convince themselves that their bikes are faster than the blue ones. :D

Now if I could only find a way to work oil into this, we'd have a hat trick going...

St1100's do not tend to generate the "heat" debate like the 13...

My 1100 has not produced any excessive heat besides what I expect from a water cooled, plastic covered machine should.

(hat trick..... tee hee.....Mark said hat trick... I love hockey references!)

I assume you are joking about the 90% heat comments, since my experience on this site has been that most folks praise the machine 90% of the time. There's a lot to like.

Sure there's a little heat. Like the man said, any 1.3L high-performance motor is going to throw some heat. I've never had an issue with heat on my '06 and never had the opportunity to A/B an '03 with a later model, but it might be worth while buying one instead of the '03 for the modifications.

Bottom line is, if you don't buy one you'll be missing out on a great ride.

mine gets a little warm on my right shin, i wouldn't put anything into the left side fairing pocket, you need to practice slow speed manouvering and may want to look into a better seat.

so they are the less favourable points - although many don't experience problems with any of them.

if you would like me to provide you with the good points - just message me - i will send you a 71 page pdf -

once i get back from riding. :cbcgw1:

If you drain the oil from your ST, you'll feel the heat... quicker with dino oil

What about the tire generated heat?

(Hat trick and an assist?)

Buy the 1300. Forget the heat. Enjoy the ride.

It's hard to find a bike that doesn't throw heat to some extent. Some are just worse than others. Heat around this neck of the woods is a feature.

Have to agree as well. You have to remember that with any site regardless of the subject, that is specific to one model/topic, there is going to be a huge....no enormous.....amount of talk revolving around perceived problems because that is simply the way it works. 99.9% of the riders love their bikes but don't post very often that "I love my Bike", I "want to kiss and marry my bike" ....etc....ok, I do, but I am a big Goof!
Later,
Don't fret about heat if you ask me because the bottom line is that you can always sell or trade the bike in for something different. Not the end of the world by any means.
Take care
Craig
