View Full Version : H/P Boost on a Cold Morning?
It has often seemed to me that my bike has a little more bounce in its step in dry cold weather. Of course, that could easily be just another hallucination. But I wonder if the cold air isn't denser as it enters the cylinder and thus expands more, giving the bike just that little extra readiness to get up and go? Anybody know the answer?

I always noticed a nice cold tank of gas seemed a little more peepy... don't know..
Yes and if the air is cold and damp it's thicker yet. Power is up a bit and fuel mileage is down a bit pushing the bike through the heavier air..at speed :)
Mo' power=less mileage.
Ask a pilot about taking off in very high heat.

Ya know, so many little comments are bouncing around inside my
widdle head, I think I will leave this one alone... :)

The colder air is much denser. As DonD pointed out hot, heavy and High is a pilots nightmare. Cold air makes an amazing difference in power. In the summer our helicopters temp out long before we hit a tourque limit, in the winter we can fly the tourque gauge and not worry about an overtemp. Our gross weight ( an mine can be really gross sometimes) is also increased.
I am sure that the FI on the 1300 has to run a little richer in colder temps to get the correct fuel / air ratio because the air is denser. ( I had to go back and think about that one too) so we get some more power too.
Do the power commander guys see plug fouling when the temps get significantly colder?
