Just trying to guage if we need a board setup for IronButt discussions, information, etc. etc.
If you are an IBA member, what certifications do you hold and which ones are you planning to attain?

Maybe we can organize a group SS this spring for ST owners and anyone else who chooses to participate. The cool thing about a group ride you can set up your witnesses, contact the IB association in advance to minimize paperwork issues, and have a nice little party at the end.
A group SS ride doesn't mean riding as a group but rather starting as a group, hitting the same verification points, and managing the witnesses as a group.

Iteresting idea. As long as people don't turn it into a group ride which usually takes too much time and slows things down. We probably aren't talking about a bunch of people, might even have everyone leave at staggared times? Don't know, but wouldn't mind trying. I did just over 1000 miles earlier this year going from Carrollton, TX to Seligman, AZ on the way to WeSTOC IX in just over 16 hours and the next day I did 650 miles. I wasn't trying to make it an official IB ride, just wanted to know I could do it and how well the new Seargent Seat would work.
All that to say... "I'm In!"

I've been part of several group rides. It is a really nice and easy way for people to get into the whole IB thing. Kneebone is a great guy and you can get the rides precertified to minimize paperwork issues.
Mellow's suggestion of a staggered start is a good one and often used. This is the most common way I've seen it used.
1) All riders show up at a predetermined gas station where two IB witnesses (not part of the ride) are stationed to sign your start form.
2) At a specified time (say 6 a.m.), the ride master then sends bikes to the pumps to top off and obtain their official start time. After a rider gets his receipt, he or she leaves. The first rider may leave by 6:03 and the last by 6:45. You get the idea...
3) Every rider rides at their own pace but it is usual to see groups of 2 or 3 bee-bopping along during the day/night.
4) If the route has corners, then every rider must hit those and get a receipt proving they were there. These locations are determined in advance. The IB association needs these to verify distance.
5) The final destination (can also be the starting location) is setup to have witnesses located there to verify the incoming riders. It is nice to have the final location near a motel and resturant.
6) After all riders make it in, you meet in the resturant, swap ride stories (fun), and congratulate each other.
7) All riders submit their own paperwork to the IBA specifing they were part of the group ride. The helps the IBA because the verification process is easier.
8) After 2 months an entry shows up on the IBA website that says:
Group SS1000 by the ST-Owners Forum
name

I'll volunteer to help any way I can.

I just added that info. and link the the Calendar.. thanks for the heads-up
I am an Iron Butt member, IBA #20568. I did the Saddle Sore 1000 ride. The ride took 18 hours and was a bit of a challenge. I am used to 800 mile days, so stretching to 1000 miles required another 3 hours of riding. The ST1300 really makes these rides pretty easy, very comfortable and smooth.

I have 1 official SS1000 under my belt and am listed in the IBA's SS1000 list. That was done aboard an XS11 Yamaha in '99 ... time for another. The Cascade Classic out of Everett Motorsports in WA sponsored that ride, I wonder if they still do.

I have completed my SS1000 and waiting on the paperwork (they cashed the check last month) I want to do the SS again in the spring with some friends who are "working up to it" and follow with the other 500 miles the next day for the BB.
As soon as next year I want to do the 50cc westbound to see my Dad in San Diego.

I completed two SS1000 rides in September and got my certificates this week. The first ride was from So. Cal. to Oregon and another SS1000 on my return eight days later. The wheels are turning in my head to do a SS1500 (possibly extreme) next summer to visit friends in Oklahoma.
The bike is a '85 BMW K100RT. No problems at all, but I was thinking of replacing it with an '05 ST1300. Just trying to get straight answers from Honda dealers is frustrating.
Like: Are dealer installed accessories covered under the 3 year warranty?
Why don't you(dealers) offer test rides? BMW throws bikes at you.
When are the 2005 models going to be on the showroom floor? No two dealers dive you the same answer. (The best I heard so far is that the bikes are quarentined in Long Beach harbor).
And don't get me started on not having heated grips and heated seats as a factory option, not dealer installed.
Thanks for letting me vent a little, I just feel that Honda is driving me back to BMW, which I really can't afford.

Thanks for the input. A neighbor offered me his '03 to ride. But I don't know him well and don't want to be indebted to him. Just sitting on it I found the bike a lot lower that my K100 and easier to balance at a standstill.I think I might start looking to see if I could rent one for a day. This neighbor said the only problem he has with the ST1300 is excessive heat(in summer) discharging on to his leg. On my old Beemer the fuel will boil in the tank when you open it to re-fuel on a hot summer(110°+) day. I don't imagine the ST1300 could be much hotter.
Thanks again, It probably will be several months before I finalize a deal, so for now I will look and price a few bikes.
Bruce C :)

Did SS1000 this summer around the perimeter of Wisconsin. Wasn't real fast or pretty, but I did it. Put 15,000 miles on '04 ST 1300 named "Tigress" since May and love every minute of it. Will try to ride most of the winter if there isn't too much ice or snow.
Planning an IBA 48 state/10 day ride for next summer. Anyone have a preferred route or suggestions?
Will also be going to the IBA meeting in Omaha in May.

Well they call Hardy northeast but it is just east of central.
18 miles from the Missouri line. Foothills of the Ozarks, very laid back area.
GREAT RIDING, and yes I am spoiled :D
To me I enjoy the roads of north central to the northwest. Not as scenic but better riding, less traffic.
IMO the #1 road in the state I have ridden is Hwy 341 from Fifty-Six to
Norfork. (Push Mtn Road) It's my own personal stress reliever.
Ever in the area, holler.
