View Full Version : Messenger bags
So I've switched from a ST1300 to a 919 recently. And since the trade I've discovered I don't like riding with a backpack -- raises your center of gravity, tough to get on and off with gear, and probably not safe in getoff.
I'd rather not add bags to the new bike. So I'm about to try the courier/messenger bag thing. Seems like the Timbuk2 bags are really popular. They are also pricey. Anyone have input on these bags, or Timbuk2, or Marsee or Aerostich bags they could share? Thanks!

I did a quick serach for the timbuk2 bags and found sierratradingpost.com has them on sale. Hope that helps.
If I have to I sling this across my body to carry stuff.

That is a TERRIFIC find. The Timbuk2 messenger bag on Sierra Trading is $50 and it's $120 on the Timbuk2 site. My hand is now teetering over the 'Add to Cart' button. Thanks for that link!

I have used the Aerostich courier bag for many years and am happy with it. Holds computer, extra clothing.
When adjusted properly, it stays in place.
Sue - it just got better. I got a code for 30% off of purchases over $100 at Sierra Trading and since I needed a couple pair of bike shorts, I got the Timbuk2 Classic Medium in red/grey for $34.96. That's about $60 less than buying on the timbuk2 site. Can't go wrong at that price!

Sizzlin Blue Crab Cakes and a drink at Ruth's Chris at the Plaza Steppes sounds great! Been a long time since I've been down to your neck of the woods Sue!
Will report back when the bag arrives with review and a couple pics for those that are interested.

Not that I know of, but work takes me places at the drop of the hat. If/when I do, you'll be the first to know!

If you go test ride a Buell, they'll give you a free mesenger bag.

I can vouch for the quality and durability of Timbuk2 bags in a general-use context, but not in a rider context. I bought my first one in 2003, my second in 2005, and I just got my total-custom one from the shop in San Francisco last month. Plus I have a tote bag, a laptop sleeve, and a purse as well. All of it holds up amazingly well to repeated daily abuse, it is waterproof (as long as it is shut properly), and they are washable. As long as you're not riding in heavy rain, in which case you'd want a dry-bag, you should be all set using a Timbuk2. :)
A Timbuk2 Classic Medium Messenger Bag arrived yesterday from Sierra Trading Post. The cost with shipping was $40. This is an impressive bag -- strong stitching, heavy material, nice waterproof liner, some internal organizers, and it just feels substantial. Great recommendation.
