At last years Honda Hoot, I saw a Ural!
I can't stop thinking about getting one!
I just think it would be so cool to get one.
So I think a 70 year old German design, built by Russians, would be a cool bike:cool: . Is there a 12 step program for this affliction?

There's a one step program. Buy one. Then you'll need al the twelve step programs you can find. That thing is a museum piece, not a real motorcycle.

Don't forget to paint it in Afrika Korps colours and mount a dummy MG42 on it.

No, I don't think you're crazy, but then again, maybe we are both crazy. I saw one of those green Ural's at last years BMWMOA Rally in Vermont, and I fully understand your yearning for one of those beautiful bikes. However, almost every Ural article that you read mentions extensive maintanance, particulary with the 650 earlier models.

If I live long enough, I will own one when they improve on quality. :04biker:

Saw a older gentleman riding one at the gas station in Terlingua Tx. near Big Bend National park. He said it's great as long as you keep your speed under 60mph. Very rough sandy terrain out there in west Texas! Slow and steady like a mule was the ticket for him...

Is it the bike that appeals to you or the sidecar ??
The 2 wheel drive units are pretty cool.

Well I would say that it is that bike with the sidecar!:)
And yes it would have to be a 2 wheel drive model!

I read that the 2006 and up models have much better electrics (Denso) than the previous models (Soviet design) and they now have Brembo brakes up front.

Yep I think top end is around 65 mph:eek:

I still like them:biker:

Rx,
If you have begun to glow in the dark, it could mean you need to transfer to wind generators. LOL!! Are the roads in Tennessee already so boring you need a Ural? Just kidding. How have you been? It's been along time since I've seen you around.

Yes, it's called Ural ownership.
After the first 12 steps in upgrading, so it will keep running, you sell it and rest better.
Unless they have improved in the last couple of years.:)

They do have a very nice sidecar, though.

Take a look at this ride report and see if this helps make up your mind.....There's a bunch more like this - just search 'ural' under the ride reports sections - You may also want to look under the 'Beasts' section for more info!

If I had the money I would have one just to putt around with the kids/wife/dog in the side car.....:)

I've been around, I pop in most days to read the posts. Just don't post myself too much.:) We do have some Wind Generators, they just don't produce anywhere near the 1200 MW my plant does:eek: I pretty sure I don't glow, I just lose more hair each year:nuke1:
The roads are great around here, if I could just find the time to ride them:(

I like the look of them too. I have only seen two on the road, one was a single imported from Russia, not a model sold here. Wonder if that might be significant?

Dang, if I got one, I'd have to get a doggie to take along in the hack. Then I'd have to sell the ST because I'd have to be home every night to take care of the doggie...

Maybe not so much when I go through it that way:)
