I'm leaving for my CCX2 (Cross Country x 2 - across and back) trip Friday night after work. I'll make a quick jog east to Wilmington NC to spend the night and get a true east coast start on Saturday morning.

The first 3 days will be long, high mileage days:
Saturday, April 14: ilmington NC to Baton Rouge LA (about 925 miles)

Sunday, April 15: Baton Rouge LA to Pecos TX (about 834 miles)
** San Antonio area approx. 2pm

Monday, April 16: Pecos TX to San Diego CA (about 936 miles)

I may spend an extra day in California... that's not settled, and may not be settled until I get there. But the schedule becomes much looser - and I will spend extra days somewhere along the slower trip back east.

* San Diego thru the mountains to Death Valley and finally Las Vegas.

* Las Vegas to Williams AZ (& Route 66) and the Grand Canyon (at least 2 nights)

* Williams AZ to either Tucumcari NM (Blue Swallow Motel) or on to Amarillo TX (if Blue Swallow is booked)

* From whichever of those two places east to Memphis TN.

* Memphis TN home to Greensboro NC.

I'm really looking forward to getting away from work for a while, and just riding. The first three days are aggressive, but once I get to CA I'll back off and take it easy on the way back east.

I doubt that I'll be able to provide any updates along the way - I don't have a laptop so unless I find a internet cafe I'll be offline from Friday evening until I get back home sometime around April 27 or so.

I will keep a journal along the way, and post a ride report after I get back. I'm also taking my camera, so I should have plenty of pics then, too!

Riding along the South rim of the Grand Canyon, as the sun is setting will create a long lasting memory. Ride Safe.

Jeff, public libraries in the small towns along the way ALL have internet access for free. That's what I do.

Hi Jeff, I did that Pecos to San Diego ride on March 23 except I stopped north of Tucson in Casa Grande for a couple of days to visit friends before taking I-8 into SD. There were many sections of I-10 in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, including the freeway in Tucson, where construction was going on and one lane was closed so that trucks backed up the traffic. It took me about 12 hours from Midland-Odessa to Casa Grande that Friday. Some short sections of rough road where the repaving was just about ready to happen so maybe by now the work is finished. I know you will have a memorable trip. You will be going through Death Valley at a perfect time. Take Care, Rich

Looked like the weather is interesting all over, from what I saw on the Weather Channel last night. Be prepared to be flexible and ride safe.

Jeff, Have a great trip. Don't know if you will be checking the board while on the road, but I think I'm just ahead of you. Went through Tucumcari yesterday. In Phoenix for a couple of days and then to CampSToc.

I met Jeff at the TX/LA border... he arrived around 8:45am. We stood there for 30 minutes talking to a guy about how much he hated his bike, and how much he wanted a Wing :bow1:

We hit Katy around 11:00 and got gas... arrived in San Antonio around 14:00 and had lunch at Pappasito's :D You know us Texas guys and Mexican food  The beans must have been good
