Ordered it last week after asking Paul some information on it. Came in yesterday. It will get it's first run within the next couple of weeks! The only thing I did was accidently cut the nylon case when I was cutting open the plastic shipping bag it came in.

He's going to synch his Carb bodies.... FI still requires this and some owners are reporting this helps/solves the heat issue with the 1300.

Throttle Bodies or TB for short and it was recommended to me to sync them at every valve check. Sounds reasonable to me and if any of the locals needs theirs checked and doesn't have one, I can help out. Once I figure this out, that is.

It's also supposed to help with idling, vibration, and gas mileage. I read somewhere that if your tb's were out of sync then some cylinders would run lean and others rich causing some cylinders to run hotter. I could be stating that incorrectly so I apologize if I got that wrong.

Morgan CarbTune (http://www.carbtune.com/)

Forgot to mention the price, after shipping and with the case, was $128.00 so it's not cheap but it is the most highly recommended one of all of the options out there. The prices are all in GBP which Morgan will charge your card with and your bank will convert it. There is only one shipping option so it's the same for everyone.

A couple of years back, I was going to get one since I was having to take my Daytona in every other month to get the TB's sync'd (s***** D&D can) but never did for various reasons.

After conferring with Paul and his advice, I took the plunge as I figure that the dealership would charge me almost as much as the CarbTune costs to sync the tb's. This also gives me the chance to learn how to do it myself.

this looks like a nifty tool ...

beats sucking mercury into your carbs ....

or doing it one carb at a time with the vaccuum gauge ... :D

he he :)

Let me know how it works. I have an old CB650 that I want to check carb sync. What was the cost? and where did you get it from.

In your home made manometer, use two stroke oil instead of mercury.

I have the CarbTune II and absolutely love it. And the impact of syncing TBs was amazing. It only affects idle performance, though. The only adjustment on the TB is the idle valve. At speeds above idle, the fuel flow and mixture is controlled by the injectors, which are not addjustable, and the ECU, which needs to be re-programmed if you want to change performance.

Don't do it! Get a flow meter for syncing your carbs.
Less work, faster and at least as smooth as with my Carbtunes.

I have the SK flowmeter. I bought mine last year. And I do have to say that it works pretty slick.

+1 on the flowmeter. Really easy and fast. It's so easy, I figure I'll check the carb synch whenever I change oil.

Bring it on, Sink. I might even be able to find some BACON for you if I try.

What is the difference between the "flow meter" and a carbtune?? Where can you get a flow meter and what do they cost? Any advantage with the carbtune over the flow meter?

The Starter Valves on the 1300 cannot be adjusted with a flowmeter. Flowmeter is probably OK for the 1100.

One measures vacuum, the other measures the flow of air down the 'stack' into the carb. I have both and I like the flowmeter both for ease of use and the results.

SK flowmeter will be available on ebay along with 'cheap' knock offs...

Dredging up an old thread - I haven't bought anything yet, and looking out another week or two when I expect to be finished with valve adjust, I'm going to need to do the carb sync. I just stumbled across this:

http://www.sportingforless.com/motorcycle-carburetor-synchronizer-carb-sync-gauge-mold-case-p-217.html

Has anyone tried one of those? Still voting for the Flowmeter (for 1100)?

I got mine several weeks ago. Since I had the carbs off I figured what the hey, go ahead and sync the carbs. I spent 45 minutes or so fiddiling with them but I swear it runs smoother than before. If you don't by the case its $104 delivered to yoour front door. With carb adjustments at the STealer taking approximately 2 hours @ $110 per hour it paid for itself the very first time!:)

The only thing I can see about those not to like is that the scale isn't graduated in small enough units, which would require some eyaballin' to make fine adjustments. There also isn't much that says how well they're damped.

40 bucks for a flow meter or 110 for these.
Flow meter usage results in great adjustments and these are an unknown...
I know what my choice would be...

Not an unknown to me. I bought my CarbTune II with help of one of our Brit members many years ago before they were available in the states. Works for me.

Not to beat a dead hourse  well ok maybe a little. But just to be clear the Flowmeter will NOT work on the 1300 STacks?

Correct.

You need a vaccum type meter for the FI bikes. Carbtune Pro works great and is well made. I have no regrets dropping the money on mine.
