Looking to purchase (probably) a new Shoei to replace my snell approved but heavy Fulmer ASF7. Its hard to tell from the manufacturers catalogs, but is there any basic difference in the shell construction between the two? I know there seems to be differences in ventilation etc. but any in basic materials and construction?

thanks,

I believe the X-11 is slightly lighter, with better operating vent covers, and a more pronounced ducktail for buffeting control. I think the entire X-11 comfort liner is removeable for cleaning vs. just the cheekpads, but I might be misremembering. (Shoei's web page isn't much help these days.) I've tried on both the RF-1000 and the X-11 in the store and liked the X-11 better, but for me it's hard to justify the extra cost.

But then I'm still running my old RF-700, which is getting a little too long-in-the-tooth now.

I'll probably end up with an RF-1000.

I'm in the research mode, planning to buy a helmet over the winter. I'm tossed between the Arai Quantum and the Shoei X-11. After reading about the two I'm going for the Shoei X-11. I found a great review site: http://www.Motorcyclegearreview.com that helped me make my decision. I've tried both helmets and they both feel great, so it comes down to reputation and reviews. Shoei is out in front. After spending $13,500 on a bike what's $600 for protection?
Spend it like you got it!

Shoei is getting like ARAI, way to expensive for the product. I have a RF 900 and love it but my replacement will not be a Shoei. Head over to the AGV site as they always have a scratch sale going on with great prices.

A friend of mine is a Shoei rider but after the last price increase went with a top of the line(theirs) KBC and is very happy with it at half the cost of the Shoei, he says it fits like a Shoei and flows almost as good as the X-11 he has.
