I know this has been covered before, but excuse me if I ask again. My cousins Honda grips quit and the left grip appears to be the cause. He was told the grips aren't covered under warranty. I seem to recall that others have found it to be covered under warranty. So which is it???

As a secondary question what is the phone number for Honda Customer Service and are they the ones to call for a warranty question??

In case the warranty issue does not work in your cousins favor -

FIRST - check for voltage and a good connection at the grip lead wire terminals. It may be a simple contact issue.

SECOND - Look for a short in the lead wire. You can cut the old wire at the grip and solder a new one on.

THIRD -
Consider replacing the stock "hard as a bowling ball" grips with Symtec heat foil and standard grips over the top connected to the Honda controller.
The foil cost around $32 including shipping. Put your favorite rubber grip on top and you will not believe the improvement.

I thought they were only covered under the bike's warranty if the dealer installed them for you before you took delivery...

I thought that's how it's supposed to be too, but when I took delivery (11/02) the OEM heated grip kit was not available to dealers in the Northeast. They were available from Honda Direct Line in Miami (where heated grips are REALLY important), so I bought a set and put them on with help from my buddy a former Honda tech. When they died two years later, I called Honda Customer Relations and my dealer, and after very little discussion had a new set of grips in transit to the dealer who put them on. No cost except my time.

They work great, but if I had it to do over, knowing what I know now and with the skills I've learned through this forum, I'd go with the foil heaters and aftermarket grips.

If you strike out with the warranty, and your cousin still wants Honda grips, then David Silver in the UK sells just the grip that went bad. You have to get a whole new kit here in the states.

His Honda Dealer in Oregon was able to order a single grip so fixing it isn't a problem. I just thought it should be under warranty as it's a Honda part installed by his dealer.

MIne failed and my dealer replaced them under warranty. They told it was because I bought them when I purchased the bike. So anything that is on the bike when you take delivery should be covered.
