Looking at this CB160 it is hard to believe I perceived it to be a large motorcycle back in 1969 or so when my friend's dad bought one just like it. Peter Egan often mentions his 160 in Leanings and Leanings 2. This one has 6,200 miles on it. I spent a couple of hours cleaning and adjusting the carbs then took it for a short ride around the neighborhood. Tonight I'll adjust the valves and set the timing. It is so simple to tune. The exterior is rough but all the parts are there short of the side covers. A previous owner fashioned some out of aluminum. It should be easy enough to strip and paint the fenders silver and bring it close to it's original look.
I had a similar bike, a 1971 CL 175, bought new back in the day. I recall it being a real powerhouse, easily capable of a blistering 70 mph. My how times have changed.
I wonder if new Cheng Shins will be good enough or should I spring for the expensive Bridgestones?

You just brought back some great memories, mine was a 68 CL175. I wanted a Yamaha MX at the time but couldn't come up with enough moola, and a soldier just back from the "conflict" wanted my dads 52 VW convertible and a trade was made. I had no interest in street riding before that little bike but it was such a lousy dirt bike I started using it for transportation and found I had more fun on twisty pavement then the dirt:D
That bike looks great; but, that smile is outstanding! :D
What is the price diff between the BS and the Cheng Shins? I'd go with the CS rather than the BS...

Had one in the mid seventies, traded it for a wet suit and regulator. It was fun.

My first bike was a 66 CL-160 with custom paint; there's a pic here somewhere??
If ya ain't been yet, head on down to Alabama and check out the Barber Motor Sports museum. I found a copy of _each_ of my significant bikes, in the correct color. Pics to follow,

Thanks for the links, but alas, the CB160 is no longer in my garage as of yesterday.
The guy I bought it from could not come up with proof of valid registration and so I could not register or title it in Florida. Instead of coming to FL from Maine some years back it apparently was last registered in Canada and that was at least two owners back. Our deal was contingent on him finding the paperwork and me getting clear title. So it went back to him and I get my money back.
I am bummed - I mean I spent a few hours messing around with it and it was running great. I was looking on line for a few trim items to bring up to snuff and now its gone.
I know where I can get a '71 CB350K3 but it does not move me the same way.

I went back and forth to Fort Dix from upstate NY on that bike, then eventually took it off the road, put on some knobbies, stripped it, and won some 1st and second place trophies racing smooth dirt scrambles against two strokes with it.
Cool memories, thanks.
