It needs to be looked into but just to ask, when does a coroner become an expert at crash scene investigation? A coroner determines cause of death not the cause of the incident. This death was obviously due to a motorcycle collision but the cause of that collision is usually determined by a thorough crash scene investigation which should also include a thorough examination of the motorcycle.
I don't take much stock in this article.

i'm not an aeronautical engineer but i can say i've been up to and past 110 more than once and obviously had no ill effects.
just wondering if road condition has anything to do with it and/or ambient wind speed. there was another post a week or 2 ago that suggested that with all the different bag shapes and contours on a leo bike would cause instability. that could be true. when i ride with my givi pack on the turbulence at that speed is frightening and i dont try to go over 80, especially when there is a lot of wind.

They are saying in Scotland that they believe it has to do with the heavier electronics package and some extra controls and such...throwing it off balance at higher speeds.

I am still trying to understand how all of the high speed deaths that occur on the Police ST1300 seem to come from England. You can't say that their bikes are overloaded causing this problem (the Police "top box" only holds the radio equipment). Do they use run flat tires or regular street rubber? What year models of the ST have gone down due to the wobble? First year, second, or all?
Just looking for answers.

I also can't understand this "light pole effect" thing. I have been totally overloaded, two-up, with a "non-OEM" top rack on top of the top box loaded with sleeping bags and two gallons of duty free cigarettes, doing 130+. I can't see that a light pole would cause a massive effect in comparison.
The bike doesn't feel planted at 130-140 overloaded, and feels a bit vague at the front end, but if you want stability at that speed go for a 'busa or ZX12R and sacrifice the "sports-tourer" ability. The ST13 has transported me and my missus both safely at that speed on German Autobahnsfor thousands of miles. I would never try to crank the ST over at 100+ like I would with my ZX12R, although it feels like it could take it I tend to err on the side of caution.

It would surely seem to me that with all the consumer safety issues here in the US, Honda would address this issue head on if there was an issue to address. The insurance companies would lead the charge if the issue was found to have merit. Honda has not seemed to be an organization to shrink away from safety concerns in the past.
My fear is that one large class action lawsuit could cause them IMMENSE headaches, even if Honda eventually prevailed in the courts.
Simply put, their reputation in the motorcycle community could be ruined forever by any sort of coverup.
I hope that there is some cause that can be identified quickly before some attorney figures out that he can order a new yacht with the fees from this one.

I don't think the Police Bikes are loaded down any more than my bike is.
