I couldn't believe it, but I met an ST rider this weekend that didn't know about ST-Owners.com. He knew about the MSN site, but had never even heard of ST-owners.com, and he's been riding since 2004. He recently traded in the 04 for a new 07, and we got to talking at the Honda dealer on Sat. Anyway, this lead me to question how many ST owners might not even know about the site. Needless to say, I wrote the site link down for him and told him what a great community it is. Hopefully, he'll drop by to check it out.

Actually, I don't think this is at all surprising. I bought my firST in April of 1991 and it was close to a year before I ever saw another one on the road!!
It was like 1995 that I learned of the ST Owners Club (from Chuck Henderson). I met him through a BMW GSPD mail server and would not of even known he had an ST had he not had "ST" as part of his email addy (ChuckSTPD)!!!

I submitted a site map to google... that helped a lot in searches coming back with the site.
We get anywhere from 5-15 new registrations every day and that number is slowly rising... So, not everyone of knows.. but, my another reason for getting so many events out there is to help get the word out. It's the internet... searching in google will eventually bring you here...

LOL, but how is that petition to put up billboards across the U.S. coming along? :D

I have this vague suspicion that this forum is well unknown. I say that because in the past year I posted about 13 sightings and did not get even one response. There is even one guy I have seen several times on the 210 fwy.
So I decided to quit posting sightings. That'll learn 'em.

Perhaps we should notify Honda of this tragedy and see if they'd include the link in the owners manual. :crackup

I run into people with STs that don't even know what STOC is!?! The email list, the MSN site, this site. I guess they've never used Google before!! :)

Until my brother bought his and i bought mine...I didn't know it was here, but I wasn't even looking for STers either! :D
Anytime I meet a fellow STer now, I ask them if they have gone to the ST-Owners site. If they say "no", I tell them all about it! :biker:

Belive it... some folks don't own or know how to or care to use a PC. I ride with a guy who in the last 4 years has had an 03 ST, 04 FJR, 06 ST and now an 02 FZ1 and doesn't use a PC for anything. So I'm not suprised about the people who aren't aware of the best bike forum on the web. By the way he's got the 06 ST for sale. He may be keeping it if he knew about the support and like minded riders out here.

I know 5 or so guys with ST's that I knew before I joined this site.
The one's I have talked with either didn't know about it or don't do the computer "thing". They also weren't really interested.
My guess would be well below 50%.

I think Joe is concentrating on other billboards:

I would also add that typical computer literacy and use is probably much less with the demographic that the ST attracts.
I'm of course assuming that the average age of an ST rider is probably mid 30's and up.
Maybe those people aren't as computer savvy as a younger crowd?
I couldn't disagree more. If you look at the typical response from the What do you work for thread you will see that a vast majority of folks come from a job that requires a technical background. I'm sure most of these people have no problem getting around the web. I don't see that distribution changing much if you consider the folks who haven't found the site yet.
Maybe a more interesting poll question might be: How did you hear about ST-Owners.com? I'm sure that there are many owners that are quite happy with how their STeeds are running and have no reason to search for answers to questions unknown.

I too would think that this link has less than 50% owner awareness.
I visit a number of bike forums and one Lincoln Mark VIII site daily.
I have had numerous occurrences of riders/drivers having no knowledge of these informative links.
Either they have no interest, no desire to surf the web, or have not been introduced to the links by others.
Additionally, I see a number of ST's here in Southern Cali. Post my sightings and no response. I run up and down the Frwy 15 2/3 times a week, and to date no one has seen me.
IMHO, age seems to be related to this subject. The individuals I run across, who are not web savy, are 50+.
I do know of a considerable others who jump on any link which they learn about. The awarness issue, computer access related, is subject to how comfortable one is.
I visit any resource I can find to learn more about an item that I am interested in purchasing. {Espescially Major} I was "on the fence" for a year on whether to buy a ST or FJR. Read everything I could until making the decision about buying my ST.

That's just wrong on so many levels George. Can't we just leave poor Mellow and his DQ addiction alone at this point in time.

You mean there is an ST board out the somewhere? I must have missed it. All this time I thought I was viewing a "voice your opinion on anything" board. I never would have guessed it was a ST board, hehe. Now, can someone tell my why black is less balistically challenged than any other color?

Don't know about the rest of you, but following the Bamarider's and Joe's suggestion I made up "rider" business cards and they include the forum web address. I guess not many people do the rider card thing though, 'cause I think I've only gotten maybe one back when I've handed them out. I carry them in my jacket pocket and if on a really long ride, I carry extras in one of my glove compartments. For all you "ST heat freaks", No, so far they have not caught fire in there...:D :D

I bet they have that fresh out of the printer feel though, don't they? :)
Have owned Honda ST's since '92, learned of the different forums and STOC in late 04... meet folks all the time who know nothing of any of it either. Met one just last week on a '94 (owned it since new)... painfully square guy with about 90K on the odo.

I guess I'm just shocked that these folks haven't at least found the site through a google search for Honda ST 1300. I suppose many of you are right about non-computer users though. That's just hard for me to imagine.

I voted less....don't know for sure. I do know that there are some in this area that know of this forum that prolly read alot more than getting involved with any particular post. I thank Steve & Linda L, Mr Reviere, & Don the gate keeper for st.com for letting me know of this sight:bow1: , it's been a great help in so many ways. That being said I also know there several here that are not aware too. I have caught up with 2 in the last couple of weeks and let them know where to find us, down where I live 1 owns a new Shadow the other thinking of crossing over from a trail type bike..and still haven't figure out who owns the fast silver either 90 or 91 thats here in ALB., couldn't catche'm in AM traffic to let him know.

I'm thinking it's surely less than 50%, but I'm not sure if it'd be less than 25%.

Doing everything I can to pump up the info out there.
Some of the other sites are getting tired of me linking back here:D
Had to put up my own site and splash it all over that one too.

If our admins are interested, I understand there are people out there that will help you get your website more visible to the spiders. In that way, the website shows up higher in the search results.

Wish we had some kind of Standard Artwork for business cards. I've run into many ST owners over the years here in the Tampa Bay area that new nothing of us. I also never seem to have the time or patience to design a card. Once again, it would be great if we had some kind standard templates to use. Anyone?????

We block some spiders but we still have some google and yahoo spiders that search the site all the time, you'll see them typically as 'guests'.

Every ST owner I have talked with at anything other than a STOC event had never heard of the st-onwers board. I made sure they had it in writing before I left them, but that doesn't mean they went on line and checked it out.

That's it...I now HAVE A MISSION IN LIFE ! I will ride the roads to gather the losts and the disbeleiver. I'll bring them where you can rest with beer and good chow and I will tell the good words that are spoken here on this site. I haven't been here too long, specially with the last site crash where I lost a few post counts.
Is there a "classy" sticker that the st Owner site could bring up. For a few buck and shipping, it could help in the funding of the site!!

Let's see....there's ST-Owners.com, newenough.com, swmototires.com, noaa.gov, and my website (http://webpages.charter.net/scottawilliams/). That's pretty much the whole internet, right?
