Here is a route for WiSToc
Ok...this might be a little too much! 330 miles!
but I have pre-ridden this, found a dead end and a couple gravel roads I deleted, and have come to the conclusion that my Zumo is a piece of CRAP!!!
After misleading me at CampSToc a little bit, and getting down there too....!,
(It had me go off the freeway and get right back on!) ...
3/4 of the way through this route It said ("drive 1.5 miles and turn right")
then it immediatly said "Recalculating"!....told me the same thing("drive 1.5 miles and turn right")then "recalculating" and did it over and over ..
plus it told me to turn right once, and there was no road there!
shortly after that I turned it off to disconnect the bluetooth from the phone...
when I turned it on again,it said "no XM antenna"...
I turned off and tried to turn it back on agian...it won't turn on!!!
I even tried the charger when I got back..nothing
Then today, I get home from work to call Garmin, and it fires up,and the Xm
works...but the batt. was dead...  this sholud be fun trying to explain this problem!
anyways...here's the route on MapSource...I suggest an early start if anybody is interested!:crackup

Clarification needed.
Virginia and I are gonna try to make this but I'm confused about the shower situation at Tower Hill State Park. At the top of this tread is states that it has a "shower room for tenters". Then I read "if enough people tent they will set aside a shower room". Now to add to the confusion, down below all this it says "and they DON'T have showers there!"
So....
Showers? No showers? What is a "shower room" that they would set aside.
Gov. Dodge State Park looks like it might be a better bet for camping. (Which we will be doing of course!)

There is campng at the Spring Green Motel. They have a large area to set up at. They will have a shower room to use. If they have enough tenters, they said they will set aside a room for the tenters to use.
Governor Dodge will require you to get a state park pass along with the camping fees. Park pass is $10 per day good at all WI parks on that day. $35 for the year. These are for out of state visitors.
Tower Hill has no shower facilities and is a first come first served campground. Park pass required. Could not find the cost per night, but will keep loking.
Camping fees at the motel are $7 per night. Up side is shower and at the home motel location. Down side is they are near highway 14. Others have camped here before and are again. Fees at Governor Dodge are $14 for out of state plus the park pass. 16 miles from the motel.
Hope this clears things up. Feel free to PM me for any other information.

There are NO showers at Tower Hill ... There is camping available right at the Spring Green Motel,Which is where most of us are staying,There they will have a Shower room for the campers, and if enough campers are there, they said they would have a seperate Motel room set aside for the campers to change...ect....
(in the back of the motel, there is plenty of room with tables and a Fire pit,
and I will have enough wood to burn there!)
The ONLY drawback I can see camping at the Motel would be if it is very windy, because it is an open area, and the main Hwy.(might be a little noisy with traffic...) is there too!
I hope this helps clear things up a little, please PM me if you need any information at all!:)

Hi Steve & Virginia! I've camped Wisconsin alot, and I would not recommend Tower Hill. I just toured there recently, and it had tons of mosquitos, no actual river... more of a swamp... and I do not believe they even had any type of water except for the drinking fountains...translated... no flush toilets... no sinks... no shower. Now Governer Dodge... very nice... very big...very clean. Kinda like Cloudland Canyon. It has similar topography, but on a smaller scale. I really like going there. Good fishing as well. Instead of that all day ride, Ahnna & I are actually going to Devil's Lake State Park for some hiking along the limestone cliffs. It's a well known area, and probably the most reserved campsite in the State, but 45 minutes away from Spring Green. PM me for my cell phone # if you have any questions. I hope you two can make it!

Those that are tenting do not have to reserve a site. It is group camping. If there are a lot of tenters, they may open a motel room for the tenters to use as a dressing/shower room. Otherwise, they have a shower room for the campers seperate of the motel rooms.
Less than 6 weeks to go.

Rich - there are many roads in and around Gays Mills that are closed. Highway 60 from 80 to US 61 is closed. 131 north of SH 60 is closed to Steuben. These might be open by the 14th but not sure. Click HERE (http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/flood.htm) to get the DOT's current information.

Dave, and anybody else who wants to stop in and say hi:welcome1: :bigpop: come on down to the Spring Green motel (looks like we have about 20...)
there are tables in the back and it will be a good place to socialize.
Hwy 14 and Rainbow Road N43 10.772 W90 03.350
If you would want to meet along the route, the closest place from Eau Claire would be around Ontario/Wildcat Mtn. (Should be there around 9:30-10:00)
Kevin's Route is going the other way so PM kevin If you want meet up with them...I would think around baraboo somewhere...
Or if you want to stop by the hotel later, I think everybody should be back by 4 or 5...
This is sort of a do your own thing if you want,But I have a 300 mile route planned for sat. for anybody who wants to do it (I'm thinking kickstands up at 8 am...)
And Kevin_56 has a shorter route planned out also, and if anybody wants to just go off and explore on thier own there will be maps available of the area...
here's the route I was thinking of,but will probably be edited due to flooding...

nope...sorry to say that they don't...I believe you need 10 rustic raods...
there is only 1 or 2 in mine...It would be really hardt to get 10 in the area...
the easiest way to that would be a Southeast wi (alot more rustic roads in this area!)ride, but the roads and scenery is much better southwest...

Huh, I thought this whole WI-STOC thing got started from John O' posting about the Rustic Roads thing and it snowballed from there.
Guess I'll end up laying out my own route then, no biggie. The only reason I decided to do the WI trip was to do the rustic roads to qualify for the patch or whatever it is. Not that I'd even use the patch, but for the challenge of doing the required amount in one weekend.

Number9 - You may have already found this website for the Rustic Roads (http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/scenic/maps.htm) in Wisconsin. Overlay Spring Green and you will see that to get 10 Rustic roads will require quite a bit of riding. Add to that, 17 inches of rain in August and you have several washed out roads in this area. I did a little car tour tonight and will be adjusting my route a little due to road construction. I do understand your desire to get this patch and will gladly assist you in any way that I can to help you and anyone else out. Looking at the map, you should have no problem getting 10 roads on the way to and/or from WiSTOC, that is if you are coming from KY.
Less than 2 weeks to go and I hope the weather is as good as it was for this weekend.

I tried to map out a couple Rustic routes... (using MS.S&T,it changed the order around a little...but I guess it figured the shortest way..?)
(these are leaving from Spring Green...)
Route 1 , rustic roads #49;69;19;20;96;22;48;102;50;14...= 336 miles
Route 2 , rustic roads#49;69;96;19;20;35;68;90;27;81 =301 miles

Hey thanks, I'll check those routes out. I have been working on one of my own on the way up to hit a bunch of the RR's. I only targeted ones that are paved - should I expect even some of those to be washed out as well? Most of them were in the southeast corner of WI. The route I have laid out so far (and it is still evolving) will put me at 19 RR's when I hit Spring Green. I'd like to get 25 and get the certificate, although I need to contact them and see what rules I have to follow in doing the RR deal (pics of me, the bike, or both and the sign - at each end or each spur or whatever? )

Southeast is not flooded at all ,Racine and kenosha got hit good, but I was just down there, and didn't see 1 wet road! southwest is,and there are only a few RR's out that way!
you should fine!
Goodluck on contacting them... I could not get through yesterday or today!...
I sent them a letter, hopefuly they will send me something by next week!
I THINK all you need is a pic. with your Lic. plate by the # of the RR sign, but don't quote me on that!

I just looked at the DOT detour and closure map (http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/docs/map-flooddetours.pdf) and it does not have 171 closed. Gays Mills was hit real bad by the flood. Based on the map, you should be able to ride 171. The road and shoulders may be in bad shape due to the flooding. Your call. I am just going by the roads near there that I rode 2 weekends ago. See you next weekend.

Well a week to go.
I stopped at the motel and see we have at least 6 or 7 rooms occupied and at least a couple camping.
Rooms should be ready to occupy by 2 or sooner on Friday. Check out is 10:30 and they will try to get our rooms ready first.
A partial list of known activities are:
Friday 7 PM supper at Rookies just east of Mazomanie.
Saturday 8 AM departure for the loop Rich has routed, Leaving from the Spring Green Motel
Saturday 10 AM departure for the loop I have routed, Leaving fromt he Spring Green Motel
Saturday 7 PM at Arthur's in Spring Green.
Sunday ??????
If you prefer you can plan your own fun and games.
If you trust a 10 day weather forecast, we might have good riding for Friday and Saturday. Then again we are talking about people who get paid to be wrong.
I am looking forward to seeing old friends and many new ones. Have a safe trip to WiSTOC. Can not wait.
I pre-road my route and it is around 125 miles without entering the state parks. There are several local eateries on the route. I have yet to have a bad meal in the Mom and Pop type bar/grills.

My Zumo is not navigating right goin into Dickeyville (from Hwy 61 to 151)

Hi,
Well My friend Tim and I were in town about 11:30 and there was no to be found. We saw a few ST's and a lot of other guys but no groups. Sorry we missed you. We left Eau Claire at 8am at 29 degrees. I would like to help plan next years event please let me know how I can help.

Dave - sorry we could not cross paths. It was a little cool in the AM. Thanks for the offer to help out next year. I run up to LaCrosse several times a year. Maybe we could meet up one of those times and chat.
Pictures have been posted on my earlier thank you post.

I arrived home at 1445 my time so I made pretty good time. It was a lot warmer this morning than yesterday and NO RAIN!!!! Thanks Kevin and Rich for putting this together. Rich, nice job on the ride and don't worry about the U-turns, if I ever go on a group ride wthout a missed turn, I'll have something to add to my memoirs. Those folks at the Motel are a great family. Enjoyed the whole package. 18 people signed the banner and I know for sure Terry didn't sign, but I think there were others who didn't sign as well. It was great to meet some new folks and see ones I have met before. At my age some of you had to prod my memory, but you will get there someday also. Thanks again guys.
I have an unofficial head count of 27 people who were at the motel at one time or another. I have names of 26 of them. The nameless person is the one on a red 1100 that rode part of the short loop and either missed the route or decided he really wanted to watch that Badger game. Thanks Mac for being this years banner delivery man. It seemed like a tough job, but you stepped up to the task.
Hope to see many of you at future events and at WiSTOC 2.

Kevin Powers has a red 1100 but he was at the campfire Saturday so maybe that wasn't him.

The mystery man was not Kevin. We exchanged names in Mazo, but my CRS kicked in. The rest on the short ride did not remember his name either. Hopefully the mystery will be solved.

My ride to wiSToc started out early Friday morning, I left my home with the temperature reading 46 degree’s on the st. I rode to Joe’s place in Aurora where his wife made us a nice breakfast of farm fresh eggs, bacon, and toast. We then left for wistoc following the pre planned route that I had downloaded into the 2720. Looking at the site that Rich and Kevin had posted I planned a route that would allow us to take in the ferry at Merrimac. After around 350 miles we were at the motel in Spring Green where we met up with some fellow riders that were already there. Saturday morning we awoke to heavy fog due partially to the close proximity to the Wisconsin river and temperatures in the very low 30’s. It took a while for the sun to burn off the fog but that didn’t stop anyone from riding. Several went on the longer route with Rich and several went on the shorter route with Kevin. I decided to take in some of the local attractions, after a very nice ride on some of the alphabet roads that southwest Wisconsin is known for I ended up at the Cave of the Mounds, and took the hour long tour of the underground cavern. After the tour I was on my way back to my bike and met up with Steve, (sunjest), it seems like I had dropped my motel room key by the bike when I was getting the gear off etc. and he found it alongside of the bike, thanks Steve. He then took me on a tour of some more roads and ended up at the shop in Richland Center where we ended up talking with Curt for a bit as he was finishing up the repair to the shock that failed him on the iron butt ride. We then left and had a late afternnoon lunch and returned to the motel.
The motel was very nice with well kept grounds, a fire pit, barbecue grill and a basketball court with lights for night time games.
Of course this is the time for migrating geese, winging their way south for warmer climates, with stops anywhere there is food, and as the fields across from the motel had just been recently picked of corn there were always geese arriving to take advantage of leftovers.
The route home Joe took lead, and we traveled some very nice roads ending up in Iron Mountain where we parted company, great ride and a very nice event. Dannyk

upnorthdad did go on the long ride with Rich, Joe and me. Don't think he came back to the motel so he probably didn't sign the banner.

Thanks to Kevin and Rich and family for putting this on! We had a great time! Virginia says it was even better that she didn't have to camp in the cold. Thanks to Glen for sharing his two room "suite" with us.
Weather for the most part was great. 72 degrees when we left Texas at 0630 and only 78 degrees when we stopped in Missouri to camp for the night. Started out at 61 degrees Friday morning and steadily dropped until it got in the low 30s at Spring Green that night. And the wind!! We thought we took a wrong turn and was going through West Texas! Temps where a little warm (94) by the time we got back to Texas. Pulled in the driveway about 1800 Monday evening.
The Spring Green Motel was a very motorcycle friendly place. We highly recommend keeping the event there next year. Would be great to have another day there with a Thursday start. I like Rich and Kevin's idea of having a BBQ right on the premises. More time to BS around the fire. Some were understandably retiring early due to having to leave early the next morning after a long day of riding.
It was great seeing old friends again and making some new ones. And it's not just age Mac! It'll take Virginia and I a couple more times to remember everyone's name that we met! Not all of us can have a memory like Terry!

Guys and Gals,
Mac's right, I didn't sign the banner, thought I could make it back to dinner Sat. night but it didn't happen. I had a great time... next year I will try to go to an event out of town... safe riding everyone.
Thanks Dave
