October 5,6,7
Friday October 5, 2007 (10-5-07) We will leave the hotel in Lees Summit MO between 8-8:30am for a 300+- mile roundtrip ride to the Lake of the Ozarks to eat lunch. Friday night local restaurant to meet other riders coming into town or eat at hotel. Saturday at 10am (ish) we will leave to ride to the American Royal BBQ. The BBQ does not allow local parking so we will park in here. http://www.st-owners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20327&d=1184895713
There is no parking because the BBQ takes up every last parking lot, more than 500 teams compete. This will be an all day event as there are live bands, rodeo events, livestock competition (hands off the sheep Sink). Saturday night we are going to 4INER's house for a pig roast. I will have the rental van and haul people Saturday night if some don't feel comfortable riding at night in a foreign state. All are welcome please PM or E-mail with any questions, you can also call, my number is in the RAN list.
Also please bring a "coaster" to put under the kickstand for the Volleyball office we will be parking on the courts.

Either way, though, I'm in!

I'd love to do the Ozarks run, but I'm not certain I could do it on Friday. Just my humble opinion. And thanks for stepping up for the planning, Much. :bow1:

Barring life complications like a meteor-induced ELE, I'm in.

Oh, and everyone that shows up can have the unmitigated joy of wishing my happy birthday...or just making fun of me for getting older. Either one works.

Hi Danny.... I think an "End of Season" food event to compliment Moonshine is an awesome idea!!! Is this BBQ an anual thing on the first weekend of October??? I hope so.

As far as Friday, I would think alot of us would be arriving late, ala Moonshine, and a Friday PM dinner close to "The Motel" would be nice. I like your idea of a meeting at a tent near the BBQ, but my suggestion would be to skip Saturday AM rides and stay still long enough for everyone else to catch up to you! A long ride on friday for people coming for a ride... a long lunch on Saturday for people coming to eat and socialize (that would be me).

Whatever you decide... I'm off that weekend, and I have KCBBQ-STOC on my calandar!

Steve outstanding you can make it so far. My thought with the dates were thursday being a ride in to town day, friday-sat ride eat, and sunday ride home day. But, its a democracy. If a majority of the riders arent coming in until friday night or saturday morning, we can do the BBQ saturday, hang out saturday afternoon and the locals can do the Lake ride on sunday.

The above is what I had in mind when I said I liked Plan B. Ride into Kansas City on Thursday afternoon, make the Ozarks ride on Friday, some short rides and major BBQ eating and hanging out on Saturday, and back home on Sunday.

With this much notice, my job allows me a lot of flexibility, so I can go whatever way works best for the most riders.

Both plans seem fantastic. Thanks for getting QStoc off the ground. Let me know what I can do to help. My place could be a stopping point for a ride to the Ozarks either day. Don't know if the hour ride into KC is to far for folks to commute but we've got a couple spare bedrooms, and 70 acres to camp on if anyone is interested.

PLAN B HAS BEEN CHOSEN !
Friday October 5, 2007 (10-5-07) We will leave a destination in Lees Summit MO between 8-8:30am for a 300+- mile ride to the Lake of the Ozarks to eat lunch, we will travel one route on the way down and another on the way back. Friday night local restaurant to meet other riders coming into town or eat at hotel. Saturday at 10am (ish) we will leave to ride to the American Royal BBQ. The BBQ does not allow local parking so we will find a designated area for us and park -n- ride free shuttle into the BBQ. There is no parking because the BBQ takes up every last parking lot, more than 500 teams compete. this will be an all day event as there are live bands, rodeo events, livestock competition (hands off the sheep Sink). Saturday afternoon/evening meeting back at the hotel to try and sleep it off, if anyone is up for Saturday night dinner we can do that but you had better see how big the BBQ lunch gets first.
VARIABLES
Hotel, I want to use one in Lees Summit but am trying to get rooms for less than $93/night.
Parking arrangements at the BBQ. There are free shuttles everywhere all with good parking lots but the bikes will be unattended. I personally am not worried about that but I know some do. So I am also researching getting a private Taxi/shuttle to drop us off & pick us up as a group from the hotel or a local bike shop instead of public parking.
BBQ TICKETS I have contacted the American royal hospitality coordinator and she is getting me group prices for tickets and info about local lodging. I wanted to have our own BBQ team but you have to compete for 2 days and the smallest space was $375. So I will find a local team to share and we will just donate $5/person to a local cause.

But work just informed me that I am to head to Indiana on the 16th and return on the 20th. (I will be getting there on the ST however) So I guess work once again gets in the way. OK I ran the route one more time looking for some more good roads and I found a few things out. 1- I still didn't see sink;s or my right foot peg from a 35mph corner that really was 35mph and 2, a 14 mile stretch of road has 24 marked corners with yellow slow signs. H hwy is a sparsely populated road full of corners with cresting apex's.
2-25mph
9-35mph
8-45mph
5-50mph
now there is of course there is no straight part of this road so only some corners were marked.
Here is a partial plan of the route.
Lincoln, MO S on 65hwy to H east on H to B and north on B to 52 east to 135 and south on it until 5 hwy in Laurie, mo.
From Lees Summit to Lincoln, there is just no better way than hit the Highway and get it over with, 1 1/2 hours. How far we go down into the Ozarks I am still debating on. But this ride will have multiple rest stops for SO's and myself. Its hard to determine where the eating point should be because there so many beautiful roads to travel but I don't want to tire anyone.

Special thanks to United States Volleyball Association for use of their building while no tournaments are going on.
It is a 4-5 drive from the USVBA building to the BBQ, but, I have reserved a 15 passenger van and a designated driver to shuttle us to and from the BBQ.
So, that means, we will ride the bikes to Kansas City Ks park indoors on the volleyball courts and take the 4-5 minute drive to the BBQ.

From Lees Summit to Lincoln, there is just no better way than hit the Highway and get it over with, 1 1/2 hours. How about taking a cut off of 50 somewhere between Lone Jack and Warrensburg. Get down to Hwy 2 and head east. If you come through Leeton, you'll be riding past my place. I'd be happy to sponsor a pit stop and provide cold drinks (gatorade, water, pop, etc.), and head out after the last bike through. Then if you continue east on 2 to Windsor, then South (South East) on E out of Windsor to C. The east on C to Lincoln. All decent roads with E bieing the roughest, but no recent chip and seal jobs on any of them at this point.

We did close to that route on the practice run, we went 58hwy to 131, A hwy, 2hwy, 13hwy, 7hwy, 65hwy back to 7hwy. All good roads but I think we might just hit 7hwy since its 65ish mph and head to Windsor over to 65 that way.

It all sounds great so far. You might check some of the non-local places for door prizes as well. I hear Tucmoto just donated some iridium spark plugs for raffle prizes at TexSTOC...

BTW, TEXSTOC is the same weekend. I'll still be attending BBQSTOQ. Arkansas is tempting, but I have to support the home team. :)

The van rental to get to and from the American Royal BBQ is going to be an all weekend rental so if anybody wants to go out to 4INERS Saturday night for the pig roast but doesn't want to ride in the dark for some reason I will just haul a load from the hotel and back with the van.
The lunch for Friday is the only thing I am working on. I am going to find a good fish joint around the Lake of the Ozarks so we can just knock out the rest of the meat groups.
More to come. Get ready to ride. 17 :03biker: days and counting!

I didn't get to my house until just after 1900. We started the ride at about 0900. We've been riding ALL day. A first for me. And I have pictures!

We had 11 bikes go!

Oh, sorry, I'm not slick enough to get action shots while riding. All of mine are shots taken when we took a break.

First shot is the bikes lined up at Perkins this morning, preparing to roll out.

Next is a flock of STs at our first break of the day. The Goldwing managed to avoid getting into the picture, somehow.

Third, say high to the guys as we stop to recharge before tackling the first batch of real twisties for the day.

Fourth is lunch on the lake. Good food, great people, gorgeous views and Joe the Vegetarian Piranha. My shot of Joe didn't come out well. Maybe Muchmore will post up his shot.

Last is a line of gorgeous rides on the last break before the REAL twisties. Hey, I'm pleased that I managed to at least keep site of the front of the line. I only lost my nerve once in a left-hand sweeper at 80mph with an oncoming dumptruck.

Oh, what a great time. A great group of riders and people. I am so glad all of you decided to show up and share the weekend with me. This just might have to become a ritual as I had such a good time. I will post pictures shortly after some minor censoring.

I had a great time Thursday evening and Friday! Other commitments kept me from the happening stuff on Saturday.

To my new friends . . . (I hope I don't miss anybody)

Danny, you did a tremendous job. Thanks especially for all your help.

Tom, it was good to meet you. I hope you made it back to Springfield in fine shape.

Rich and Sally, you too. You're great people.

Rick, man, I love your 1100!

Sue, thanks ever so much for the food and get-together Thursday evening. You have a beautiful home. I'm sorry you couldn't make the ride Friday.

Carl, my neighbor, take care of things over in Valley Falls. Being as close as we are, we need to hook up more often.

Sink, it was good to finally put a name to a person. You're something else!

Joe, you're one hell of a rider. Thanks especially to you too for helping me Friday afternoon.

Chris and Steve, I didn't get to talk with you guys much, but I'm sure we'll meet up again soon.

Chuck and Rose, you're great people too. Enjoy that grandchild. Thanks also, Chuck, for your words of advice.

And to my best old friend, my 1300, I rode you harder than ever, and you never let me down once!

I learned a lot from you guys and all that happened Friday only made me a better rider. When we got to the restaurant, I know a lot of you thought I looked like a 10-year-old who just smoked his first cigarette. I kind of felt that way too!

As most of you know, I didn't ride back with you guys, but I had a great ride back to my son's place in Gladstone, nonetheless, well over 400 miles (via Springfield and then via Buffalo) roundtrip for me. (Man, I gotta get me a Zumo!) I had a tail wind quite a bit of the way. Riding in the late afternoon and into the evening in the beautiful early fall Midwest was just awesome.

Take care, everybody, and God Bless.

Let me say it one more time...... GRRRRRREEEEAT WEEKEND!! Way to go Danny. The Friday ride was awesome, and I'm sure the memories of the ride will be with me long after the spouse induced bruises on my sides have healed, and probably longer than it will take the Muchmore house to finish eating all the Q that Danny bought. Rose and I thoroughly enjoyed having you all over Saturday evening. You're all welcome back anytime. And that invitation would include anybody I met during any part of KC-BBQ-STOCK. Or anybody on an ST for that matter... (OK Goldwings are welcome too....) You ever find yourself in Leeton Missouri, stop by and say hi. I hope we can do it again next year.

Hey guys, I just wanted to put in my thanks to Muchmore for the great organization and to let everyone know how much I enjoyed hanging out on the Friday ride. The route was a blast and seemed to get better as the day went along. I'm ready for another one.

How much do you think it would cost to have them move highway H, just as it is now, closer to Kansas City? :P

WOW! What a BLAST!

Danny,
What a great job you did. I had such a fantastic time. Your efforts were well worth it! Oh, and thanks for helping me pick up my bike:wink: The ride was fantastic! The American Royal was a very cool thing to see... (although I slowed you guys down...) The BBQ was a great time. You outdid yourself! Hope you do it again next year! It was nice to meet your wife and kids too. My daughter was happy to have a buddy to do stuff with.

Chuck and Rose,
Thanks so much for letting us invade your home for the Q! A great time was had by all!!!!! It was great meeting you guys. My son really enjoyed the paddle boat!

Sue,
Thanks again for letting me stay with you Thursday night! AND for letting me return on Sunday night. That rain with the traffic in KC was un-nerving. Your home cooked meals were FABULOUS!!!!!

Karl,
You just ain't right......

Chris, Steve, Tom, Brad, Joe, Rich (Josh), Sally, Rick..... Who did I miss??? What a great time!!! Those roads were FANTASTIC!!!!! And the company was unbelievable!

This was such a great time! I really hated to have it end. Don't tell anybody about my tipover award! (glad I got THAT over with.....) The American Royal was a hoot. You can't believe the experience of seeing 500 BBQ teams cooking at the same time! And the smell...... Incredible!!! Karl, next time, at least kiss the Maytag repairman before you grab his...... NEVERMIND!

My wife and kids had a great time as well! It was nice to have them feel welcome!

I can't wait for next year!
