Hey, I've read all the links I possibly could, but I'm a freakin' electrical mental midget! And too cheap to have someone else work on my bike for fear they'll mess it up worse!!
As you can see in the photo below (taken just one hour ago) I have the bike nearly torn to the ground (air is still in the tires). I know where the horn will go, but I have yet to find a comprehensive and detailed instruction, including photos of how to hook this little Db monster up.
I know, I know...I've seen them here, but they all stop short of actually telling what color wires to put where...and where to hook up that doo-dad and the whatchamacallit. So, if you know...HELP!! My bike is ripped apart awaiting some good instruction!!
If you also can help on my XM Roady XT, you would earn a ST1300 Geek award...and my personal respect.

that will be me in a week and a half...going to install the stebel, autocom, radio, heated grips, maybe gps..i think that's all I have planned for my next farkling adventure.
There is a post on the site that tells you that you can hook the wires from the horn button to the relay and it give the numbers for the post connector that they go to as well as which post number the direct lead from the battery gets connected to and then which one goes to the horn...i printed it all out, so i have it at home...i'm at work now... it took me a lot of search to find it...sorry i cant be of more help. if you don't find it, send me a pm with your phone number and I can give you a call when I get up tomorrow and give you the info that I found.
when i mount the stebel I am going to put it in the stock horn location...apparently the inner fender needs to be cut to do that though...
Relay posts
Connect hot wire from battery to the #30 post
Connect the #87 post to the + pole of the horn
Connect stock horn wires to the #85 and #86 poles
Ground - pole of the horn
Wiring between battery and relay should be fused 15 amp and be 14 ga wire.

Ground - pole of the horn
what do you mean by this Coop...ya got me a little confused now...like johnny i'm an electrical mental midget, so can get confused easily when talking about this stuff
also the posts i've read on this have said to use 10-14 gauge wire, so got 12. and I also read to use a 20-30amp fuse...so figured i'd use a 25 amp fuse. are all of these things that will work...but like oil, everyone has their own preference as to what is better?
thanks
i think i got it now...the negative from the battery goes to the other post directly on the horn...is that correct?

25 amp is going the wrong direction. Ya want a fuse that big enuff to handle the load but small enuff to blow in case of problem BEFORE the switch/relay/wiring are fried. 15 amp should be plenty.
Some electrical experience but not a total expert.

You'll also want the fuse placed as physically and electrically close to the battery as possible. Any wiring between the battery and the fuse will be unprotected in the event of a short, which is why it needs to be close.
Here's where the fuse for my Blue Sea block is:
17566
The fuse is in the black-and-green fuse holder on the left. Just follow the orange wires.

First, love that pic. :crackup
12ga is great.
You can ground to the frame where the original OEM horn was mounted so you only have to run a single hot wire to the Stebel.
Fuse at the battery and always go lower on the fuse. Mine is fused at 20 amps for the Stebel.
Relay and Stebel are mounted in the same location as the OEM.
Seal the Stebel relay with silicone sealant prior to install. Pull it apart, gently, and run a bead of silicone along the lip of the relay then snap it back together.
I can post a few pics of mine but the link that Ken gave should help out for those.
There is a TechSTOC in CA soon and if you can attend that, you might want to wait on the audio portions of your install as those are substantually more difficult than the Stebel horn.
All the instructions are on the Stebel label inside the package, (it's folded and instructions are on the inside,) IF you have the eyes of a 10 year old...... (now where did those reading glasses go????....)

I know nothing about the horn, but isn't your coolant a little low?

What a great eye you have! Actually, you are seeing a bit of shadow on the lower part of the coolant tank where it angles away from the camera. The coolant is at the top level. Thanks for just thinking of mentioning it.

Johnny, I am so glad yours works! I love your shouting but it is giving me a headache:shout1: Just kidding, I loved your first post. I felt very much like that a couple of weeks ago, see picture below. I had my ST1100 down to the bones and was wondering what the hell had I done. The instructions I received with the Stebel horn worked just fine for me. I used 12ga wire, mounted the horn (zip tied) to the frame in the upper right fairing, mounted the relay where the original horn was located, ran 12 ga direct to the battery (the 20amp in line fuse came with the kit) and ran the ground wire to the main frame ground under the seat. My next project is installing a 6 position accessory fuse block (it will live in the left fairing pocket-no other place left except the tail). Then I will wire in my GPS, tire pressure monitor (sending units live inside each tire-not the valve cover type), a powered deer whistle, a 5 function volt meter and 1 powerlet plug for left side fairing plus 1 show chrome plug for the right side. At that point I will have 25 or 26 farkles on the 1100!:biker:

My directions were in some strange tounge..... Probably the reason it sounded different than Bob's when we got it hooked up. :)
