Unfortunately, the bike is in the shop but as soon as I get it back I'll install the kit and take some before/after pics.

I had one on the GL1800 and even though an aircraft can use the wings' rear lights to land by, it made a nice little touch. I'm thinking it will be a more dramatic effect no the ST1300.

Lewis Preston (EC Owner) was looking for some pics he had of an ST1300 installation and said he'd pass them on to me if he could locate them. If so, I'll post them here ASAP.

What is the EC Turn Sig Conversion Kit? Is it a turn signal canceller?

No it simply places a red bulb in the rear sig housing that acts as a running light. The red bulb makes the amber lens appear red. It's hooked up in a way that when the turn signal is activated the red bulb turns off so there's an alternating effect red/amber/red/amber when the turn signal is being used.

It's only $15 and is just a way to make the 'running' lights on the rear of the ST a little more noticable.

here's a pic from the EC website of a goldwing with the before/after comparisons.

So how is the red bulb inserted into the rear housing? Do you drill a hole into the housing for it? Sounds like a neat addition to the rear of the bike.

What kind of wiring is involved. I couldn't get much info on it from Lewis' webite.

Thanks for any info Mellow or Lewis if you are reading this. :)

Jeff, yes you find a good spot and drill a hole for the new rubber insert w/bulb. I'll post some detailed pics once I get the bike back and then I'll post here.

Thanks Mellow.
I am looking forward to making the ST more visible from the rear!

Okay, just got the EC Turn Signal Conversion installed... and I did 390 miles today.. Man, I forgot what I liked about the bike since I haven't ridden for a month.

Anyway, I wasn't sure the turn signals on the ST1300 were big enough to make a difference with the kit but, I WAS WRONG!... I really like the effect this kit produces.

Let me know if you have any questions about it and I'll do my best to answer. Attached are a before and after pic

Okay.. let's see.

Well, you'll have to right click and save the file to your pc to play it.. doesn't work by just clicking it.

Mellow, that sure looks good in the dark. What does it look like in the day time? Does it look as good? Maybe a day time picture and/or video?

Ray, it's barely noticable during daylight but, I got it more for nighttime visibility..

That does look nice. I'm gonna get that kit too, now. How difficult is the install? Is it just a plug and play thing or should I get the soldering iron warmed up? Or even worse....get the drill warmed up?

Mellow, I really like the effect this has. Did you order this: p/n 01312 ?
Can you explain the install so my 3rd grade mind can understand :D .

And I thought I was all farkled out. Seems like I'll have to order this kit after hearing back from you and its not too complicated.

Mellow

Brian... You'll need the drill

You need to take of the rear cowl... then, just under the existing socket there's two lines of text indicating the voltage of the bulbs, I drilled a 1/2 hole right between them and that's about the only location it can go... Then, plug the red bulb into the provided rubber socket/grommet and push it into the hole, perfect fit. The wires coming out have connectors and T-Taps are provided to tap into the running light wire and the left and right turn sig wires.

That's it in a thumbnail...

Skydog, yes, I ordered 01312 .. I can always stop by and help you if drilling into the stock housing makes you nervous... I'd done this on my previous GL1800 too..

5 hours? Hey, we're on STs ... That just a quick morning ride... Lunch sounds great. I'm oncall the next two weekends and then Big Bend is the last weekend in Feb...

Then, i'm oncall again so maybe in March... I think Charlie's schedule is a bit less restrictive than mine.. LOL

we're heading out to the South Texas Motorcycle Show coming up March 18, 19, & 20th at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. Leaving Friday morning and retunr next day. Anytime after that works for me.

Looking forward to it. Maybe others on the board can join in as well and we can make it a forum. Know any great places to eat between here and there that can handle a bunch of ST riders at one time. :beer3:

Which Clear Lake do you live in? I think Charlie thought it was the one northeast of Dallas...

I don't know the SA area very well but I'm sure if we posed a question on the site there'd be good suggestions and a good group of hungry bikers showing up...

The answer Dond is 1. You see you forget that the ancient name for Ireland is "The Land Of Saints and Scholars" :D :D :D

there is a clear lake, and a clear lake city that I found on S&Trips,
Charlie. I guess they put the "city" on the one by Houston to
differentiate between the two..

I received my turn signal kit on Friday and attempted to install it today. When I saw that I had to remove the Top box to get the rear cowl off, I gave up and changed the oil and dif oil instead (synthetic of course).
Looks like I'll never get that farkle installed. Its more work removing stuff than the job itself. :banghead:

It goes faster than you think... I've taken the top box/bracket off a few times... It's a good project for a rainy weekend.. .and you'll love the effect.

I have to thank Mellow for the pictures and video of this mod. I ordered the parts from Adventure MotoStuff http://www.amotostuff.com/ and did the intsallation this afternoon. It took a couple careful and casual hours. It turned out really good. It sure adds some light back there. :)

I installed my EC turnsignal conversion this weekend. A very nice Farkle and very easy to install. Also very effective I like the extra light at the rear.

Thanks for the tip Mellow!!!
