Electroluminecent Lighting

I am thinking of using a couple of EL panels to add lighting around the dash and handgrip controls. This stuff can be trimmed to fit and I can power it a number of different ways. Picture two panel pieces inder the sunshade over the panel near were the two windvents that do nothing are located.

I have not played with any of this before and wanted to see if anybody had any experence and could give me some feedback.

Some questions that come to mind,

Can I add a dimmer
Can I cover it with clear plastic to waterproof, does it need to be waterproofed.

Has anybody else lighted the controls another way.
