I now have the stebel on the bike! so I checked it with the decibel meter

at one foot infront of the bike-119 decibels
at 12 feet infroont of the bike-101 decibels

when wiring we used 12 ga wire wth a 20amp fuse...wondering if 10ga wire would make it any louder???

below are the readings from the stock horn...

i thought I would test the stock horn, as I have access to a decibel meter.

at one foot infront of the bike the reading was 101 decibels
at 12 feet infront of the bike the reading was 94 decibels!!!

Doubtful but it would be interesting to see it tested. My guess is that it might be slightly louder but not worth the hassel. I used 12 ga wire and am much happier than with the stock horn. Saved our bacon this week on at least one occasion.

I wired mine up with 10 awg but only because it was sitting here in my tool box. I doubt that using 12 awg wire will cause the horn's output to suffer.

I'd say those measurements are probably about right. A 20 db difference is a lot.

Are those reading with or without the front shroud in place or modified ?

dB numbers aside, the Stebel is vastly louder than the stocker.

front shroud is in place and not modified.

i am wondering if, since I didn't modify the shroud, it is restricting the airflow coming out of the horns, giving me a lower decibel reading. the next time I have the shroud off I will test it and see what happens

I put a Stebel in about 3 weeks ago, it is loud, but not quite as loud as my Rivco Air Horns I have on my Valkyrie. I'm curious what everyone thinks of the quality of the Stebel sound. I think it sounds more like a truck, loud, but not very pleasant!! My rivco's have a nice musical european sound to them!

the shroud has to have some sort of effect

I did the Stebel upgrade this spring on my ST11. I used it yesterday to get a BIG buzzard out of my way while coming out of a corner on hiway 92 West of Leavenworth. Last weekend I used it to spook a house cat out of the road in Nebraska. I've only had to blip it a couple of times at cagers. It's a HUGE difference from stock. Hell, with earplugs in, I pretty much couldn't hear the stock at hiway speeds.
