Ordered a pair of AeroStich Elkskin Gauntlet gloves a month ago and was told they are on back order. Are these gloves worth waiting for or should I cancel and get something else? They are to replace the Held "Steve" gloves I'm using now which are just about wore out.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike

I've used the regular Elk skin Ropers for ~10 years now. The current pair is @ ~20k miles and the other still serviceable ones are @ ~50k. I like them - there are alternatives, many cheaper, but the 'Stich gloves are consistent in quality and durability so I keep using them...

Don't know about the gauntlet version, but I've been using elkskin ropers for many years now and love them, great all-round three-season riding glove, imo.
The elkskin is very tough. I use a pair on the bike until the pair I'm using for ranch work wears out and buy a new pair. Then I take my bike pair, rotate them into ranch work, and use them a couple years until they wear out there.
Very comfortable after they get broke in, which doesn't take too long.

Been using a pair of ropers for 93k miles. One glove has a small hole on back of the hand. I think I will order another pair.

I've been using a pair of the Roper gauntlet's for a few years. I go the black. Even after rinsing them out several times and all this time, they will still stain my hands when wet. Otherwise, good gloves. Even Sno-Seal won't waterproof them, however.

LOL. That's why I decided to try the roper gloves about 10 years ago. I got tired of having my hands stained black with regular black mc gloves every time I got rained on. Tried the neutral colored roper gloves, and I've never looked back. Don't think I'll ever wear another pair of unlined black riding gloves.

I love the Steve's. I wonder why you're switching?

I like the Steve's too but there about to wear through on the finger tips. The Elkskin Guantlet looked similar in design at about half the price so I thought I'd give em a try.

The kangaroo leather on the Steve's offers the best tactile feel of any gloves I've ever had. I'd wager that the elkskin ropers are tougher and may last longer. What's your priority?

I can't speak to the Elkskin ropers, never owned any, but I do have a pair of Steve Held gloves and I really like them. 'Course they cost a whole bunch more.

+1 on the Steve Held. They are best glove I've ever owned. Worth every dollar they cost.
