Hi All,
Ok, I know it's not brain surgery but I wrote it up anyway. A lot of people do it with the fairing on the bike so I thought I would show some detailed pictures of what it looks like in there.

Very nice... the shims must be slightly smaller than the first ones that came out because mine fit easily over the base of the bulb. In fact, I think it was NewsMag that stated he took the two smaller forward facing tabs and bent them against the shims to help hold it while sliding it in place.
I know if I'm not careful, the MY shims will come free and I'll have to start the process over.

Mine were very loose indeed, and though I procured them through CST instead of STA, I believe they come from the same source.
But you can indeed see from Curt's photo here (http://www.hard-core-ware.com/howtos/headlamp/images/fullsize/IMG_0690_fs.jpg) (right side) that the forward-facing small tabs could be folded outboard to hold the shim on.
Cheap and easy - the perfect farkle!
I bought my shims from California Sport Touring and they did not provide any instructions on how to use the shims. I did find that Mark at Motorcycle.Calsci.com had some nice instructions on how to use the shims. I have not yet tried to install my new bulbs so I appreciate your help with these additional instructions.

Leo had asked me to clarify removing the rubber boot so I added another picture at the beggining along with an explanation about how the boot can be removed.
I'll attach the picture here as a reference. There tabs on the boot at 12:00 and 6:00. They can be used to remove the boot by pulling then straight out from the headlamp assembly. All this is on the page too.
