Training is important.

There aren't enough spots in the training sessions. Waits are long.

It costs money.

And  what a LAME headline.

Nothing new here, at least not to us.

Nice story. I didn't take the basic course, but did take the advanced some years back.

Any good words about the program is a good thing. I wish that we had more training courses and ranges to use.
It is a money and insurance thing that limits a lot of the courses.

The number of coaches is limited too....I think due to funding. I've been trying to get into the instructor class for a year and there are limited openings in each class.

The basic class is great and I've put both my boys thru the local Harley sponsored class. The coaches are very dedicated and I highly recommend it to new riders and the advanced class to our more mature and seasoned riders!! The class will identify bad habits, but it is up to you to fix em.

Hey, that article was written a few miles from my house. The picture quite obviously wasn't...

Here's another reason class waits are so long: lack of instructors.

The average "lifetime" of an instructor nationwide is about 3 years. In Washington State it's 17. No, I have no idea why. All I know is that when I'm out on the range teaching, my co-instructor usually has at least 10 years on me.

Yikes.

On the other hand, you sure learn quickly watching these guys.

One of the ranges I teach at is busy almost all year 'round, and all week. On weekends we run doubles.

We simply need more instructors.
