It seems that there is a new 48 state record .
Morris Kruemcke on a 1800 Gold Wing did a 7146 mile route which took him 5 days 8 hours and 52 minutes.
My hat is off to Morris my friend and mentor .

That works out to an average speed of 55 MPH for the entire time. If he stopped 6 hours for each of the five days, he maintained about 72 MPH while riding.

Either way that's more than I want to try. :)

That's incredible... do you know if he had an aux fuel tank? The Wing is usually a 180-220 tank depending on speed and you can sure waste a lot of time at gas stops. Isn't there a max distance you can go without stopping, ironbutt rules?

I figured 53 mph overall average.
I know he did not sleep 6 hours each day.I talked to him numerous times during his ride and he never seemed to be tired.
Morris was running a fuel cell butt I think he limited the capacity to 8 gallons. His wing gets mpg in the 40's.
What is amazing about this is he had to stop and get a receipt and witness signatures for each state so the amount of fuel did not come into play until toward the end which was out west.
If you ever get a chance to look his bike over take it will be time well spent.

This rule is enforced in all IronButt rides except the
IronButt Rally.
1999 and 2001 finisher.

A friend of Morris' told me Morris was thinking about doing a I-10 ride from the TX-LA border to the TX_NM border on 1 tank of gas, without stopping.

Not sure whether he's done that yet or not. Would be cool accomplishment.

Years ago on a 1500 wing with 30 odd gallons of gas he rode non stop from Wyoming to Houston. He did everything on the bike from eating to peeing.
So if you ride with him do not ride behind him because that might not be rain drops hitting your windshield.

Let me know if this happens. Since I am at the TX-NM border and I-10 splits this town I will get pictures.

My computer crashed, so I've been reinstalling hard drives instead of riding or posting.

Yeah, I met Morris thru the Houston BMW club. I've never really gotten to know him, but a few of my friends are close to him. One of them told me that Morris was thinking of doing the Summer Solstice run from the TX-LA border to the TX-NM border on June 21 with one tank of gas and not stopping, even for bathroom breaks.

Anyway, this is the stuff of rumours. I'll check next time I attend a function.

.
I would think that the date would either be June 18 or 25 since the 21 is in the middle of the week and it has in the past taken place on a Saturday.

Is there anyway to get information on what route he took, state by state?

Morris might tell you the order in which he did the states , butt I doubt he will share the exact route .

I don't know about Morris but Ron Ayres route is in his book Against the Clock. If you are thinking about a 48 or 49 state ride I highly recommend this book.

I believe if you are going to attempt to break any of the 48 state records, you must notify IBA prior to departure if I read it right a long time ago.
