This stuff that Walmart sells called Blue Magic Metal Polish is great. It got rid of the yellow tarnish on the mufflers.
Check out the before and after picture. The one on the left is done....the one on the right is clean, but not done.
I'm not gonna B.S. you guys and tell you they look like new, cause they don't and I'm not gonna tell you it's a breeze to do, cause it's not. There's lots of elbow grease required. What I am gonna tell you is that I am very happy with the results for $4.97.

Now you've destroyed the patina and their value has gone down :-)

Oh that's juST antiques.

BM is amazing STuff, you can polish your windscreen and it will not scratch. I used it on a ClearView I had to remove small hazey swirly things. (The ST screen is coated Lexan and different)
For a really clear view use BM plastic cleaner and then the metal polish. Read the label..honeST.

Using BM since 1980:

Looks real good Brian!

`Wondering how long the shine will last, or should I just learn to love that brassy look?

Thanks for the advice on this Blue Magic. It brought back the shine to both pipes. Really is some magic stuff.

I like the yellow, which is good because I'm not pulling off my pipes to polish them.

It's a nice golden glow, NOT yellow, sheesh. Besides, gold pipes are faster than silver ones...

George G. pointed me to this thread, and I have some additional info. since I asked about the yellow to share.

First now I know why I wasn’t pulling my hair since I used this WalMart stuff before the semi chrome. I got the worst yellowing on the first run and noticed some sort of stuff seemed to be coming off the mufflers with the Blue Magic that wasn’t there on the second ride (the yellowing was not nearly as bad on the second ride with the semi chrome on either).

Since then, the snow froze my good $$ sense and I ordered a $19 bottle of blue away which came this morning. It is a durn small bottle too.

The stuff recommends re-polishing with semi chrome (or other chrome polish) after use.

I went at the light yellow that was on the pipe just before the mufflers. With nearly no rubbing the yellow tarnish just disappears, Zap, gone. Now there was not much yellow on there yet, so I’ll report after the big melt and some serious miles are put on. I’m thinking a combination of this blue away stuff, WalMart cheap blue magic, and semi chrome may well keep the mufflers looking normal color without a lot of work, if that’s the color you like. Only partially tested though, but first look seems the price may be worth it, if so little Blue Away amount is needed in maintinence, we’ll see.

Look at their pictures.

Is it possible that Hewhois and Carl T are the same person? Or are they twins separated at birth? One sent south, the other north??? :a13:

Ha ha. Never noticed that until you mentioned it and you see the post close to each other. You may be right.
