I had mentioned in previous posts that I needed to replace my mummy style sleeping bag with a roomier bag because the mummy bag did not allow me to relieve the strain on my aging joints.

Well on Monday I drove (snowing out so no ST) to Cabela's in Dundee, MI and brought a new rectanglular shaped bag that gives me lots of room to flop around in when the ol joints start complaining. This is a great time to buy camping equipment, everything is on sale, the new bag was 50% off list price.

Once I got back home, I spread out the bag to give it a test run (in the TV room, it's cold outside) by taking an afternoon nap (I'm an old fart and need my rest). Well I found that my fat cat, named Fritz, loves the new bag and appears to have taken over ownership. So I am wondering where I can stash a 20 pound cat on my ST1300 when I finally get a chance in spring to go camping! :p Since he won't give up the bag, I guess he has to go along for the ride.

I am also looking at tents and sleeping bags. Man I can't believe how cheap you can get this stuff in winter. Eureka is even offering a $30 rebate on their tents right now.

Can I ask you what bag you chose? I'm looking at bags and for the most part the Slumberjack Ultimate (mummy style) packs down extremely small.

Can anyone tell me if the Eureka 2XTA and/or 3XTA will pack down small enough to actually fit in the saddlebag?

I was at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day looking at their sleeping bags and the Slumberjack brand is looking pretty good. There are several different models to choose from. I'm looking at one that's good down to around 20--30 degrees. The Slumberjack is what I would call a semi-mummybag style, as at the foot of the bag there is a zipper that, when opened up, exposes a mesh vent that also expands the foot of the bag. Looks pretty good to me, and the darn things pack down real small for packing. Unfortunately they didn't have the model I was looking for, so I have to wait until they get in.
