Got my Stebel horn today from California Sport Touring. Man! Was that fast shipping or what!? Ordered Tuesday, got it today!
So now what? Got the horn, installing bolts, and a relay. I remember from another member's thread about installing the horn that there was some sort of spacer block for the mounting bolt to facilitate the horn installation. I also ordered a wiring harness from Eastern Beaver.
8 gauge wire from the battery to power the sucker...
You'll want plastic cable ties to make sure the wire doesn't wander around and you're going to need some time to route the wire... you can do this without waiting for the harness.
Based on Scarman's experience I hope you ordered a sealed relay from EB too...
Good luck,
Mark

1.) Do not mount the relay upside down, it will eventually fill with water and fail if it is not sealed. There will be a tendency to mount it that way from wire length and frame mount options. There has been some sub-standard relays shipped with the horns. I am using the original and it still works great after 1.5 years.
2.) Make sure the vent tube from the horn is pointing down when mounted, you don't want that collecting moisture either. Activating the horn will pull that water into the unit.

I don't have one on my ST yet, but I have one on my 9. That is one awesome horn! That is one of the mods I have planned for the ST before the end of the summer. I wish the bike companies would just make some sort of deal with Stebel and start putting them on as "standard" equipment. I am sure the insurance rates would eventually start dropping because I am sure there would be fewer accidents.

1. Install horn.
2. Go ride.
3. Find poor, unsuspecting motorists to unleash it on.

Gonna install it at TechSTOC, Fred?
Great horn. Installed mine last month.

I will wait patiently for the wire harness to come from Eastern Beaver. I didn't mention anything about a "sealed" relay in my order email to him. Should have. Maybe I'll be able to catch him before he makes it. He's been on vacation in the USA I understand this June. So I won't be installing it at TechSTOC, or sometime real soon. I can't wait to try it though! "Unleash it on unsuspecting old ladies and sleeping babies! Oh what fun!
I have noticed that the mounting bolt and attachment cavity(?) on the horn are a bit longer than the one I saw in a install thread about two years ago. And no block spacer(?) was provided. Hopefully it won't be needed for the installation in that cool place the earlier thread showed.

I recently installed mine just above the stock horn, using the hole in the fairing support, had to drill it out slightly. Mine didnt have the block spacer, and I had to trim the length of the bolt down slightly, because there was no spacer. Other than this, it fit nicely.

Yeah, that's where I"m going to try to put mine too. And you info on the spacer and bolt was just the thing I was looking for. I guess earlier Stebel Nautulis Compacts had a different mounting mount.
Now if I can figure out how to remove the fairings... LOL.  :D

I also got mine from casporttouring. I was told the black one was out of stock and wouldn't likely ship for 2 weeks. Happily it arrived in only 4-5 days. I also got the Centech fuse box, plus I already have relays. I only need to buy wire. I was going to use AWG 12, but that's not big enough? I'm not sure AWG 8 will fit the lugs.

8 or 10... I think the message I read was that they used 12 and then switched to 10 and heard an increase in volume.

I got my wire harness for the horn from Eastern Beaver (http://easternbeaver.com/Home/Main/Products/Horns_Kit/horns_kit.html) today and am ready to go to install the Stebel. Now if I can just get somebody to help me? Hint hint hint...

take off the seat
lift up the gas tank
take off the side panel to expose the battery
take off the front inner cowl (right side if on the bike - left side if you're in front of the bike looking back towards it)
use a metal coat hanger to fish through from the front towards the back under the tank and through the frame and lay your wiring harness along the bike's wiring harness (I found fishing front towards back with the coat hanger and then pulling through was easier than fishing back towards front but YMMV b/c of the relay already being attatched - based on your picture, you'll probably need to fish from back to front along the bike's wiring harness and carefully pull the battery leads through) I used 12 gage landscape lighting wire to make fishing easy b/c it's flat and not multiple wires to pull through to get both your power and ground - after I fished it through, I attached my fused lead on the battery end and my relay on the other end
connect the trigger leads to the stock leads that connect to the factory horn
connect the horn leads to the new horn
connect the red battery lead to the positive battery terminal
connect the black battery lead to the negative battery terminal
turn on the key and test
button everything back up and you're good to go

Great instructions Raven! Now come on out and do it! LOL.
Do you have to lift the tank to take off the side fairing?

I didn't take off the side fairing for my install, I only took off the battery cover side panel and the front inner cowl. I had to lift the tank to fish the wire (and it saved me from having to remove the side fairing). I mounted my horn using the zip-tie method instead of the bolt method primarily b/c I was too lazy to take off all the tupperware! :D

Got the STebel horn installed yesterday with Byron's help. We tested it and lost two teeth! J/K. Boy! Is that sucker LOUD!!! Even with music blasting in my ears on the freeway going at 90mph I can still hear it! Cool! A must do farkle!

That's great, Fred. I have my bike apart now to do the same installation. I'm just waiting for the horn & harness. I may have to mount it higher up into the fairing since I have those air ducts going to my glove boxes. We'll see. I contacted Jim at Eastern Beaver to have him make my harness 6" longer than normal. Next time we ride together we can take turns blasting the cages.
George
The extra length will really help George. I bet you still be able to fit the horn up there. It sits pretty high up. You'll see when you get all the stuff together.
Yeah! It's a skin-jumper-outer! :22yikes:

Where did you mount your horn? I've seen it mounted inside the fairing near the mirror on this forum, but I would like to install if without taking off the whole front fairing.

Why the 8 gauge wire, 8 is good for 40-50 amps, horn can't pull that much current!!!
Gearbear

Horn pulls 10-15 amps it's better to use wire in an overkill gauge.

Well the harness is in and I discovered I dont have that spacer to mount the horn as Fred pointed out. So I just went over and picked up a shorter 5/16" bolt 3/4 should do it. I'll try poping it in tomorrow, Any tips ??

Well, it appears to be an easy install, but does anyone have pics of the final location? Seems the under the right side fairing would be easiest, but what do I know?
Regardless, I think I'll order the horn and harness now just to force myself into it!

You might notify your neighbors before testing it. Someone in Orlando tested theirs the other day. I could hear it in Daytona. And two AMtrak Trains pulled off onto a siding.

Yeah! That's it! That's where mine is. It's like the space was made for it. The mounting hole in the bracket in the picture has to be drilled out slightly to put the horn's mounting bolt in.
Also... TEST THE HORN OUTSIDE! My cat is still growing her fur back! :22yikes:

Hey Byron! So are you going to WeSTOC, or what? What's the scoop? Come on buddy! Don't leave me alone with Dan and Dana; The Chatty Cathy Twins! I'll go batty! :22yikes: :D
