Florida St Owners, people are starting to talk about a 2007 FLSTOC.
Lets get a head start, so this years FLSTOC is not rushed.
Please post your favorite roads and/or rides.
If you have a favorite campground, B&B, resort or State Park please list that also.
When would you like to see FLSTOC happen?

Great to see someone take the bull by the horns; I'm a snowbird even though we don't get much snow in southern Missouri. I'll be there from Biketoberfest until Mayish.

Would like another FlaSTOC. Had a good time meeting the people at the first one.
I live in Central Florida, so I like all the roads up through central Florida.
If camping, better to have it in Oct or Nov for a little bit cooler nights.

Agree, the coastal roads, Daytona, and the Keys have all been over done.
Would love to show the out of staters the central part of FL.
The National park would be a great jumping off point.
Should make it a time of the year that is great riding here but still not so bad in the rest of the country that other riders can't make it down for some fair weather rid'n.

The BMW guys have a nice rally at Starke/ Camp Blanding. I'd have to set up a non-military guest sign-in at the gate but it's a nice campground at a central/ northern location.

Not looking for, or expecting, anything like that. Last year it was more like 10-12 SToc'ers with only 4 overnighters!
There are plenty of other options around Ocala National Forest (Silver River State Park, Silver Springs comes to mind) or even St. Augustine (nice KOA).

Tom,
If you remember last year was:
"hey guys lets have a FLSTOC"
"OK when"
"how about two weeks from today"
"how about Daytona"
Anyone without a really flexible schedule was an immediate no go.
Unfortunately I am included in that group.
Running two businesses I need at least some lead time to make even a
short trip. I know many that would have liked to attend, but the notice was
too short.
Would be nice to give enough notice that out of staters can attend and those
Floridians that need to arrange time off can do so.
Then maybe we could have much higher numbers.

I met cando95 over the weekend at Cycle Gear and found out he lives five minutes from me. He expressed an interest in attending and will probably see this thread. I also met two guys at the Hoot who are twins and ride twin ST1100s and will ride down here in a heartbeat. In fact, one of the twins drove to my house in Florida from South Carolina to attenda a party my wife and I hosted. And we only met the guy a week or so ago at the Hoot. Tells you how friendly STers are!

I would attend fo as much as my schedule would allow, the more advanced notice the more I could do by adjusting travel plans/commitments. I live in the Tampa Bay area and usually ride all through central FL mostly north of I4 so I would love to see some folks south of I4 share the roads down there and those of use north share ours...

Not to mention it was the weekend before Christmas!! :D Even so and while I could only attend the Saturday morning breakfast and ride, I had a great time meeting and riding with everyone. :)
I'll help any way I can, guys. I'm starting to get fairly familiar with the roads out west of the Palm Coast, Daytona and St. Augustine areas to as far west as I-75 (not saying I've been on every road, though :D ). Any thoughts about riding down to Key West?
I would definitely like to see the rides pre-planned and GPS routes/waypoints or whatever sent out well in advance. :)

Mac,
You tell us you have clear dates - but we are not mind readers, what are your desires :D!
Be the first to pick some dates because I have no idea what my schedule looks like next winter ....so for me (and obviously other Floridians) I don't care - winter is all good in Florida  !
Oct - still might be end of Hurricane Season, Biketoberfest
Nov - should be good
Dec - full of Holiday cheer and family things - but good for me
Nothing wrong with Jan and Feb either - but you Yankee snowbounds might not be able to make it down and back.
I'm off for Colorado and California tomorrow and don't even expect a plan by the time I get back:eek:

FLSTOC - Ride suggestions.
Just read an article in "Nature Coast Visitors Guide" that describes riding the 13 mile Ozello Trail which starts at US19 about 3 miles North of Homosassa, Citrus County. I've never been there, but it sounds like a nice ride with twisties and old FL charm. Scenic views, lots of water, some nice places to stop for a bite (Blackwater Jacks and Pecks Old Port Cove. All you need are a few basic things like these, mix it up any way you like, most of us just want to get away and get together.
A date = Nov 15 - 18
A Motel =
Day 1 Ride and dinner restaurant
Day 2 Ride, lunch restaurant, and dinner restaurant
Day 3 Ride, lunch restaurant, and dinner restaurant
Day 4 Ride and lunch restaurant
I think a couple of local guys are what are needed here. Just fill in the blanks as you see fit, if somebody does not like a particular meal or ride they won't go. And there are some like Jeannette and I who can only be there from Friday night to Sunday noon before we have to head home.

So I went looking for a city and a motel and found that the Gators are playing at home that weekend so either we pick Ocala TODAY or some other area because those motels are already filling up in Gainsville and will do the same thing in Ocala.
There is a Days Inn (link) (http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/check_avail?brandCode=DI,MQ,HJ,KG,RA,SE,TL,BU&searchWithinMiles=25&areaType=1&destination=ocala&stateName=Florida&state=FL&countryName=United%20States&country=US&checkInDate=11/16&numberAdults=2&numberRooms=1&checkOutDate=11/18&numberChildren=0&rateName=AAA&rate=S3A&id=00359&propBrandId=DI&force_nostay=false) in Ocala that does not look bad and still has rooms. But somebody needs to make a decision NOW or choose a different area to get together, maybe Deland or Wildwood. What do you think?
sandman
09-17-2007, 09:04 PM
Guys,
You don't need any more planning than a location. Most ST events don't have anything more than a campground.
Once the location is picked most of us will do a little research on our own and find some rides in the area.
Any Florida riders from the area of the event that have favorite roads can give the rest of us ideas.
GPS files of favorite rides, uploaded here on the site, make it great for us out of state riders to plan for the trip.
Most of us don't expect or want too much planning and structure for the event. As Mellow says it's a "meet-greet-bs-eat-bs-bs" kind of planning that works out best.

OK, time to get going here. O'Leno looks nice and if it works out, I'll be there. If not, here is an alternative: Niceville, Florida. Yeah, start Googling, it's near Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Panama City - in the Central Time Zone.
Fred Gannon State Park offers campsites and 1/2 mile down Route 20 is the Regency Inn with basic hotel accomodations. Some nice back country rides to be had with a few great water views if you like.
Fred Gannon State Park
Campsites are $12/night, max of 2 tents per site, with water and power at each one. If there's a big turnout they might waiver the 2 tent limit. New bath house is very nice. Reservations are done online.
http://www.floridastateparks.org/FindaPark-Proc.cfm
Regency Inn: 4577 Hwy 20E, Niceville, FL, 32578 (866) 273-4362
Rooms are $59/night single, $64/night double (two beds)
Both places currently have plenty of availability for Nov 15-18.
If this is suitable, I'll work up a few ride ideas, maybe a sponsor or two and see what develops.
This site has had a lot of interest (number of viewers) and 42 interested in attending depending on where it would be located. I'm one of them and am ready to ride. I'll be glad to substitute distance to an event for exploring routes in NW Florida and Alabama.

I haven't been paying much attention to this thread and just noticed what was up. Since both FSU (Tallahassee) and UF (Gainesville) is playing at home that weekend I don't think north central Florida near these two towns would be a good choice for a venue that weekend. I agree with Bob in that respect. Motel rooms fill up.
The panhandle is OK with me but it puts riders from central Fl over 350 miles away and 550+ miles for our south Florida brothers and sisters. Easy day ride but maybe further than some want for a weekend.
What about Silver River SP near Ocala or one of the two Wekiva River SP's north of Orlando?

He's absolutely right about the distance and I gave that some thought but wanted to get something started. So, been on the phone a little bit and Silver River SP seems like a good choice. The "luxury cabins" are booked through May'08, but there are some good camp sites left. Spoke with Walt Carol the "ol' gray bearded ranger" who is also a rider and can help with some ride routes. Park is 2nd newest in FL with "beautiful" bath house facilities. Camping is $22.79 per site and each site can accomodate 4 tents / 8 people. Walt recommended Sites 12/13/14/15 which are "buddy sites." 12/13 are next to bath house. Reservations for all Florida State Parks are made at "Reserve America," (800) 326-3321. If this spot works, maybe the first camper reserves and notes "ST-Owners" in the reservation name so others can join on the site?
Sites will go quick, this is very close to Ocala, good central location. Less than 1 mile away is a brand new Holiday Inn Xpress, with 20 rooms left as of today (3/4 full up). (352) 304-6111; 5360 E Silver Springs Blvd., Silver Springs, FL, 34488.
So - this works for me, how about ya'll?

I just made a reservation at the Holiday Inn and they don't have a lot of rooms left and want $98 AAA rate for a standard room (Gator game) I would suggest you get a motel room quickly because the rates will increase each day as they get close to selling out. The way that I see it is that I can always cancel the reservation if something better comes along or the groups plans change.
We plan to ride over on Friday and be there by noon or so, hang out with you guys and ride home on Sunday. We live will do 95 north to 40 west. It's either this or Key West for us that weekend, I am glad that something came together with the STOC riders.

Bob, There will be at least two of us, my reservation is in. Rooms going fast, though. Spoke with Eileen who says to call direct for a reservation as they have some rooms held that are not available to the 800 Holiday reservationists. (352) 204-6111
Looking for 39 more attendees to chime in. :)

That's a fact. They also decline discounts like AAA on the Holiday Inn website but gave it to me on the phone. Thanks for the number.
There is also a Days Inn 8 miles into Ocala that looks ok and has rooms and a better price but I like Silver Springs myself and this is a brand new Holiday Inn Express not the Old Holiday Inn dump up the street.

ALLRIGHT!! :22yikes:
It's actually gonna happen.
I reserved campsite #14, at Silver River State Park, for 8 campers and 2 vehicles(the maximum).
I'll be traveling alone at this point, so if anyone wants to share my campsite let me know.

According to Mario at the H I Express I just bagged the last room for two nights Thursday and Friday. No bargains here, not when the house is full. Now will there be a FLSTOC?

With a little nurturing and some cooperative weather, this is going to be a great time.
I started a new thread for the event (after checking with Mellow on what needed to be done to get added to the Event List). I'll be switching over there to update lodging info which I'll dig up in the morning since the HI is full.
I'm retarded . . . uh, retired, and have some time so I'll be glad to host questions and research from afar. As to getting FLSTOC on a roll, thanks go to Bob Hughes who made the 1st reservation. That's all I needed. Thanks Bob. :1st:

Spencer, I sent you an email. I usually just ride local 5-20 miles, so a gel-seat adjustment will definitely be needed for the 320mi ride.

As a newbie to this stuff, I have a stupid question. Where can someone meet up with the group if we are just riding in for the day? I live about 40 miles from the park so I thought I'd ride up Saturday meet some fellow ST'ers.
Thanks for your help!
