View Full Version : Throttle Grip freeplay adjustment?

Greetings,

I know where the adjustment is made, but not sure which way is supposed to make it tighter or looser. As you sit on the bike, and turning the adjustment nut toward you, does that decrease or increase the freeplay? I've played around with it some, but can't figure it out :hun1:

Thanks!

If you're talking about the adjuster at the throttle housing, you want to lengthen the cable sheath which effectively shortens the inner cable, taking up some slack. Most have been able to get close this way. In a few instances the cable has had to be adjusted right at the throttle bodies to satisfy the owner. If you find that there is any change in engine rpm when you turn the bars to full lock on either side, you've gone too far. HTH

Thanks! Will give that a try! It's not like it feels way too loose or anything, just can't leave well enough alone I guess :)

Shop manual calls for 1/8 to 1/16 inch free play

Exactly where is that adjustment made? My throttle has way too much slack - very annoying.
Thank you

The adjustment is made right up by the throttle grip where the cables come into the switch housing. Backoff the locking nut and then turn the long nut so that it rotates further away from the switch housing. I believe if you're sitting on the bike that would mean pushing the wrench away from you. When you're done put the locking nut back up against the adjuster nut and just snug it up so they both don't move.

I have a really dumb question about adjusting the throttle cables.....there are two of them. Do you adjust each the same amount or what?

I just looked at my bike and now I realize just how dumb that question was. I'll go stand in the corner for a while. Sorry!
