It's enough so you can take it with you but it still doesn't allow you to run it in parallel with the bike.

I'd make my own battery pack and mount the remote that came with it.

OK, so I'm one of those guys who's geographically challenged, but I can't think of a reason why I'd want to take my 2610 on anything other than my ST where it's wired into the bike's electrical system or in my car where I've got the adapter that came with my 2610.

I have mine wired in to the bike but on long distance rides I don't want the GPS to turn off so my average time adjusts as I'm standing still. Or sometimes I plan routes while I'm waiting for my food somewhere.
It's not for me but someone might want one.

. . . Or sometimes I plan routes while I'm waiting for my food somewhere. . . .
Didn't think of that. That's a good point. Working on your route while you're taking a break makes a lot of sense.

I'm about to finish the wiring of my 2610 and the audio system. I read with interest the pros and cons of permanent hot connection or switched via ignition key (presumably the black/white wire entering the "spare" maintenance connector under passenger seat?).
I like the idea of the GPS not cutting off when I stop the bike to take what we Brits euphemistically call a "Natural Break". However I don't like the idea of the connector to the GPS always being live, just in case I drop it onto the handlebars when removing the GPS unit. That would cause a "flash in the Pan" rather near the fuel tank.
So, I think I'll try and get a 12v panel mount switch and new fuse box wired direct to the battery, and take power for my accessory toys off the new fuse box. Any suggestions where I can buy a suitable switch and fuse box?
Thanks,
Rob

I have a Garmin iQue on the RAM Mount gimbal doodah thingy. I have a power outlet in my left glove box (lockable) and bring the cable out through the top door. When the bike is running the iQue is charging and working at stopping me getting hopelessy lost and when I'm not using it, I just take it with me since it's always charged. If I want to walk away for a meal or something, I can lock it away with my phone (that's also charging!).
The battery pack idea seems a bit of a pain if you ask me. You've gotta guarantee that where you stop has power to charge it again. If you go camping etc, forget it. That's where you're Bike can do the work for you.
