Location : Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Date: September 8-11, 2006

Camping:
Eureka Springs Kettle Campground, Cabins and RV Park (http://www.kettlecampground.com/home.htm)

I emailed the campground and asked a few questions:

Q1 - How many tents per site?
A1 - We have some large sites that will accommodate several tents.

Q2 - How many motorcycles per site?
A2 - We offer 'shared sites' for those families traveling together (usually two). That way each family pays a little less. (I take it this implies two vehicles so 3 or 4 bikes per site shouldn't be a problem)

Q3 - Not familiar with your peak season so how far in advance would people need to make reservations?
A3 - Other September events that are listed so far are; The
Banjo rally, 35th Annual Antique Auto Festival, The Jazz Festival and The 15th Annual Corvette Weekend. There are lots of things to do and see. Make your reservations as soon as you can.

Q4 - Would it be possible to group the sites together so we don't' disturb other campers coming and going?
A4 - Honda owners top our welcome list. The sooner you make your reservations, the better we can accommodate your group's needs. We are a family campground that is 'motorcycle friendly' as long as the motorcyclists are 'camper friendly'. We have Ride Maps for the area and have even provided a guide for rides in the past.

Q5 - Is there a nearby campground you could recommend as an alternate if too many people show up and you are full?
A5 - We work together with the motel across the street (Country Mountain Inn) to accommodate our larger rallies and meets.

Many clubs use us as a base with meetings in the pavilion.

Any additional info. would be appreciated. We have a motorcycle page on our website, www.KettleCampground.com (http://host426.ipowerweb.com:8080/webmail4/parse.pl?redirect=http://www.KettleCampground.com) that may answer more questions.

Thanks for checking with us and welcome to "Motorcycle Heaven".

Please write back or call (800) 899-CAMP (2267) for reservations or
additional help. We hope to see you in September.

Their website also has these coupons that can be presented at checkin time or when firewood is needed, I'll try to bring a few with me just in case someone forgets:

Motels (info from JW-1300 - John):
The Country Mountain Inn in Eureka Springs
Phone: 1-800-626-7120
Fax: 501-253-5145
email: cmi@arkansas.net
Website: www.countrymountaininn.com

Address: 4112 E. Van Buren (Hwy 62 East)
Eureka Springs, AR 72632

The motel has 42 rooms and I have set aside 35 of those. All the rooms are double queen rooms. They do have rooms with whirlpools for the asking. This motel is across the street from the Kettle camping grounds.

Prices: They have two rates: one for the weekdays and one for the weekend. The weekend nights are Friday and Sturday night. We get the weekday rates ($52.00) for both weekdays and weekends if we stay two nights during the week. A person will need to stay two nights other than Friday or Saturday night to get the $52.00 rate for Fridday and Saturday. If they do not, the Friday and Saturday night rate is $59.00 All prices are plus taxes (around 10 to 12%)

Those that want the motel need to call or email after April 2, 2006 and before July 1, 2006. They need to indentify themselves as part of the STOC group.

They have a person or persons that will come to the motel and do a BBQ dinner on Saturday night if the group wants that. They sell the BBQ by the plate and it's somewhere around $8.00 a plate. They say that it is "outstanding." The motel would need to know several days ahead, so that needs to be on the agenda first thing.

There is no liquor by the drink in Eureka, but there are liquor stores and people that want beer or liquor can bring it to the motel.

The motel also has a large meeting room if needed. I didn't ask if there was charge for the room, but I'd be suprised if there was.

Thanks for looking this up John!

Arkansas before... :) Kurbster & KurbSTer

I've been wanting to do Colorado for a long time. :D

But might it also depend on where the 2006 WeSTOC is? Wouldn't want to hold two events in Colorado in one year. Then again - why not? ;)

I've been to both CO and AR. I'll take AR. More good roads, less hassle.

Again, juST my opinion.

Oh, yeah, I'll be there, where ever.

I think a NatSTOC is a great idea. There are not many events planned centrally, if you take a look at my map (http://joanandpaul.net/Motorcycle/STOCevents/stoc05.html) . In fact, it's quite concentrated in the east!

I would think that if you wanted to have a centrally located "national" rally, you'd want to hold it in the central part of the US. This would tend to eliminate Colorado as a destination, since 2/3 or more of your potential attendees would have to cross the great plains to get there. Another consideration in that vein is that Colorado is one of the states where WeSTOC is held, and will potentially be in that neighborhood in 2006, since WeSTOC is due to go that direction next year. I'd suggest that a central STOC event be in Arkansas, Missouri, or somplace in the Mississippi River valley. Lotsa good riding in many areas thereabouts. IMO, YMMV...

Don, how certain are you that WeSTOC will be in Colorado in 2006?

If the probability is high then I say we just make it Arkansas.... Fayetteville.. They are very biker friendly and between northern Arkansas and southern Missouri, wow..

Okay... here's the deal.

For 2006 I say we make the location Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Done!

After the event, we'll begin discussions for the next NatSTOC in 2007 and see where everyone would like to have it. There's no reason why this one can't move around from the Ozarks, to the Smokies, to the Rrockies, etc. etc. Maybe we'll even have a non-sturgis STurgiSTOC... LOL

If we sit around discussing where it will be we'll still be discussing the best place in 2025 when we have probes on the moons of Jupiter...

So... Eureka Springs, Arkansas it is.

Anyone in the area that knows the best hotels with big parking lots or have an incentive to host MC events please chime in here. If you want to discuss timing, I'm thinking May or June of 2006.

In order to make things easier for me and reduce liability issues (yeah, you knew that would come into play), I'm not posting maps of routes or even saying this event is sponsored by this site because it really isn't. I'll post this on any ST sites I'm aware of, well almost any.. lol. I'm not planning anything to the extent that the WeSTOC dis-organizers plan, that's just too much work for me and would take the fun out of it for me. They do an incredible job of that event and I'd like to attend all of them for as long as I humanly can. I'm just too darn tired to do it.

If this turns out to be big then maybe others would like to form a group and handle all the logistics but I feel it's enough for the first event to just say where it is, designate a main hotel and a campground (if big enough) and just show up.

Any comments are welcome...

I like the Arkansas site better, I think you'll have more people make the trip if you can keep it as close to the middle as possible.I'm on the Alabama, Florida line and as much as I would like to ride Colorado, I've got to admit I'd have an easier time getting to Ak.

I would plan on being there,,, WHERE EVER,,, there is!!! :D

I have ridden Colorado more than Arkansas even though I live way closer to Arkansas... So,,, it sounds good to me!!!

The COG group moves their National all over every year... 1 year it was in Asheville NC,,, the year before that it was in Montrose Colorado,,, last year it was in Jonesboro PA,,, this year it is in Washington State... Keeping it in the middle is well and good but,,, for Left and Right Coast people it is a far piece to ride no matter where every year...

I'm not at all predicting that WeSTOC will be in Colorado, or anywhere else in 2006. I don't mean to give anyone any ideas that any given site has been chosen or even considered yet for 2006.

The request for proposals will be going out in the next week or so. However, given that WeSTOC hasn't been in the eastern part of it's territory for several years, it seems logical that it would be a definite possibility. That's the only point I would make.

Mellow
02-08-2005, 11:42 AM
Don, no problem, but seeig the history of past locations it does seem your prediction will more then likely come true.

Anyway, we'll go ahead with AR for this year and I'm also pleased that we'll have a NatSTOC event during the first half of 2006 and the biggest STOC event (WeSTOC) that I know of in the latter half of the year... every six months someone gets to go to a big STOC event... I like the timing of it. I think the will create more interest and participation for both events and maybe spur more participation for all STOC events...

Just one big happy family.... :a13:

It's Tuesday thru Saturday... I'm taking a que from the way WeSTOC does their planning. This give those far away extra time with the weekend to get to the event and since it officially ends on Friday, extra time to get back home.

Since, living closer to the event, we have the option to stay 'til Sunday if we like.

I'll plan on taking off almost the whole week and ride my *** off. I'll probably need a new set of tires half way through the week... yeah right...

I am guessing that "Farmers" take up about .00504% of the ST population so,,, I can totally agree with not changing for Farmers... ;)

If we make up T-Shirts with the NaSTy 2006 even if I don't go,,, I want one though!!! :D

Okay... Since WeSTOC next year is Sep 4-6, I'm making NatSTOC Sep 8-11. This gives anyone wanting to attend both a day to be from Golden, CO to Fayetteville, AR.

Also, NatSTOC will be VERY loosely organized compared to the great job the WeSTOC group does.

We can talk details as the event nears.

I'm not sure what you have planned in terms of reserving a block of rooms, but...

As I understand it, the reason WeSTOC ended up Monday - Wednesday is because the availability of blocks of rooms on the weekend was already limited. If you're planning to reserve a block of rooms somewhere, you might not want to wait much longer.

Just a thought...

Well, they are in different areas so it might not be an issue. I'm hoping someone in the area can do some scouting. If blocking out some rooms is beneficial to someone then I'll give it a shot but we'll see. This will be, like most of my planned events, VERY disorganized and just an excuse for people to get together and ride.

Any suggestions are welcome and if anyone in the Fayetteville, AR area feels like doing some pre-NatSTOC legwork that would be great.

JW-1300
09-22-2005, 06:56 AM
I'd be happy to do some legwork. I have not been to a STOC event, so I need some kind of a guess on the number of people. Also, I assume that some would want to camp? I suspect that the date is early enough, but should it be on a football game weekend in Fayetteville, there won't be a room available for a hundred miles in any direction. If someone could give me their best guess on the numbers, I'll see what I can come up with. Mellow-anything you need me to do here in the area, just yell.

I have posted it on the ST liST to see intrest. I think a national STOC event would (should) be awesome. It seems that of those who replied, some had never heard of it......said that it being back to back with WeSTOC is bad because they can't get a hall/work pass for 2 weeks straight.....OR.....they were glad it was back to back and planned to do both.

Either way, I know I will be there (good lord willing). If nothing else, just to say that I was at the 1st ever national STOC event. :D

But, in fact, it won't really be the first ever national STOC event.

The first and only "national" STOC event, which was unnamed, was held in the Ozarks in 1995 with a bunch of liSTers attending, along with several of the STOC founders. The year after that, the first WeSTOC was held in Park City Utah, in 1996.

The largest, in terms of attendees, STOC event ever held was WeSTOC 6, in Kimberly, BC, with over 210 attendees.

Here's a couple of pictures from WeSTOC6

Don, Great info.!... thanks for sheding light for those of us that are still newbies in the world of STs.

Personally, I think we can beat 210 bikes, I think the popularity of the ST will only get better in my opinion. In fact, I think Sport Touring in general is becoming a bigger market sector than it ever was before. How many ST-looking bikes are coming out now?

I've never really looked at numbers and tried to associate that with the success of an event. Some people call Sturgis a successfull event, I call it a mess...

To me, if only one or two people show up and no one gets hurt, it's a success. It might take years before NatSTOC ever has more attendance than WeSTOC or it might never happen. I think WeSTOC will always be the best organized/planned/setup/executed event ever and I applaud them for the effort they put into it.

For me, as long as I create a NatSTOC event, it will always be a very unorganized/come as you please/just show up type of event. If someone wants to do more to make it more then they are more than welcome to pitch in and help out but I'm more interested in meeting everyone and riding the area than I am in stressing over putting the event together.

I feel NatSTOC can serve as a great 'rolling' event that is hosted all over the country.

I've volunteered to arrange the accomodations for this event. I'll be getting back to the list early in the year with suggestions for those that wish to camp. There are not a lot of quality camping locations that are close into the Fayetteville area, so it will be necessary to make your reservations early on in the year because they fill up in the summer and fall seasons. We can do the hotel / motel reservations later into the summer after we get a more accurate count on the attendees. If anyone as any specific needs or questions about the Fayetteville area, just pm me.

Looking forward to a great gathering in September.

Joe,

In no way did I mean to disparage the efforts of anyone trying to put on this event. I applaud you for trying to bring everyone together into a central location. I was just trying to provide some history about STOC and it's events for those new to STOC.

WeSTOC and NESTOC may be the largest and most well-organized STOC events, but there will always be room for additional opportunities to get the clans together. Your concept for NaSTOC goes back to the early days of STOC, where everyone just agreed on a place and time via the liST, and then showed up and had a great time.

I also agree that size has nothing to do with success, and I agree totally with your definition of a successful event. Safety is paramount to the success of an event.

If there's a way I can make it there, I'll be there. Good luck!

Might be a chance to see a Great game though......to see the bright side.....

Hmmm...good info. Might need to change the town or will that matter? Do you have any suggestions for a better Arkansas town? I'd prefer one in the northeastern region just to make it a little easier for those coming from WeSTOC to get there a little faster.

I've posted a campsite link and JW-1300 was planning on scoping out the hotels. He already contacted the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and there aren't any 'Big' events on that time slot... well, NOW there is....

I've cleared the poll since this is a different location so if you are planning on going please update the poll.

I'd love to come, but with WeSTOC in Colorado this may be the only year (at least until I retire) I'll be able to make WeSTOC. And I won't have time to make both. 2007's a whole new year, though.

The Cresant is indeed an expensive hotel. Eureka has hundreds of motels. I have been waiting to get an accurate number of the people that intend to use a motel, then I will go over there and see what kind of a rate that I can come up with for the group. There are a lot of small motels that have maybe 15 to twenty rooms. I made the call that those staying in motels would want to all stay at the same motel. I'll check the poll around the first part of February and head on over there. I'll post the website (if they have one) and the number so everyone can make their own reservations. Looking forward to NASTOC in Sept.

Yo Joe,

Have you decided which campground?
If so does the one you've picked allow multiple bikes per site?
If so how many per site?

Wanna share a site? (or does the wing's size preclude any other bike parking on the site? ;) )

John just got this info. well, he got it a few days ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it.... I also added it to the first NaSTOC post as well.

Motels (info from JW-1300 - John):
The Country Mountain Inn in Eureka Springs
Phone: 1-800-626-7120
Fax: 501-253-5145
email: cmi@arkansas.net
Website: www.countrymountaininn.com (http://www.countrymountaininn.com)

Ditto!

Most likely be running BBG pace from Golden on the back roads - US 4x to US54 to US160 to Mo90 to Mo37 to US62 into ES. The idea is to hit Mo90 during the day; awaesome road, but I hate riding the ozarks in the dark. Did that for the Bull Shoals rally; damn spooky that was.

Figure leave 3:30AM Thursday, arrive ~7:30PM; just in time to pitch a tent and crack a cold one.

Sometimes you just have to guess at the figure..
At MoonSToc, a lot of the people did not show up at Terrys to register..
So an "actual" count was impossible.. We knew how many actually "registered" but had to make an educated guess as to how many actually
showed up.

Okay... here's the deal.

Anyone in the area that knows the best hotels with big parking lots or have an incentive to host MC events please chime in here. If you want to discuss timing, I'm thinking May or June of 2006.

Any comments are welcome...

FYI: This may be useful for future reference. Ponca isn't too far from Eureka Springs, and may be a good location for a future Campstoc, or whatever.

There are some very reasonably priced cabins at Ponca, called "Ponca Lodge", I think (?? ). If you don't know, Ponca is 14 miles W of Jasper, 25-30 miles SW of Harrison, and about 55 miles SE of Eureka Springs. I don't know a lot about Ponca Lodge, but apparently there are various sized cabins with: fully stocked kitchens (sorry, no food); wooden decks with table and chairs, a jacuzzi ( ? sp ), and a BBQ pit (I think). Many, if not all, of the decks overlook the Bufallo River, or a creek feeding into the Buffalo R. We stayed in a smalll cabin, which had a bedroom with a double/queen bed (?), a bathroom, and a kitchen/dining/living room all in one area (there was a large futon in the living area where one person, or 2 very close friends, could sleep). The cost of our small cabin was around $65 per night during the month of Nov.

I don't know if camping is availble at Ponca Lodge. But, there are several Forest Service Campgrounds, and maybe 1 or 2 privately owned campgrounds nearby. It's definitely a rural area. Other than campgrounds, cabins, and maybe a mom-and-pop motel, you won't see many businesses other than canoe rental places. The closest services, like restaurants and gas stations, are over the mountain in Jasper. Boxley may have a few services other than canoe rentals.

It's a great inexpensive place that you shouldn't tell too many people about.

Being new to the ST community and these events - what is the overall feeling if different types of bikes attend. I am planning on doing the WeSToc to NatSToc thing and a couple of buddies (one on a CBR1000 and another on a ZX6) are wondering about meeting up in Eureka Springs. Any Thoughts?

Also is anyone from the Central Texas area going to Golden?

To All,
I just got back from Eureka Springs. Yep, it's still there - the roads are too. BTW, I road a new one for me that I consider one of the best - 12/127/12 from 23 to the Beaver Lake bridge near the city limits of Rogers. It is about 30 miles of fun with some 90mph plus sweepers (for you expert riders). I must have ridden that road 10 times this week. It does have some farm houses that require attention and one stop sign where 127 comes back into 12 but the rest is pure heaven.

Another new road for me was 313. It runs from 21 up near the MO boarder to 62 in Green Froest. Beautiful!

A good friend of mine's name is Bubba so I had to try the food at Bubba's Pit BBQ. I know our Bubba had NO part in this establishment. On a score of 1 to 5 where 5 is the best ever, I would give it a 2 on food, 4 on service, 2 on parking (oh and bring cash - they don't take credit).

Had a really good 3 napkin Elk berger at the Road Kill Cafe. Parking is bad. Need to park next door at the school and walk.

Wednesday nite we had diner at "The Roadhouse". Just outside the eastern city limit sign. Parking and food are great and it's being managed by one of the girls from Iron Horse cafe. They have applied for their liquer license. Not bad prices either.

I found a new place to stay called "Rider's Rest". Only have 10 rooms but also have raised camp sites. Rooms are really nice with refrigerators. $45.00 per nite regardless of the number staying. (I would guess there is a limit) They have an open fire pit for the nite time story telling next to the BYOB bar area. Current parking is gravel but next week all bike areas are to be asphalted. Atmostphere is the about the same as Iron Horse Stable without the restaurant and the drive out of town. The location? It is the next motel down from Super 8 and almost across from the Kettle Campgrounds on the South side of the road.

I recieved a call from the Country Inn people this week-end. The lady was concerned that there had been some misunderstanding about the quoted prices. I looked at my original post regarding this and although I could have maybe made it clearer, it is correct. There normal rates are: $49.00 for any night except Friday and Saturday night, those two nights are $59.00 each. They will give us a flat rate of $52.00 for all four nights (Sept 7,8,9,10), but you have to stay the four nights, or else pay the above "standard" rates.

If my original post misled anyone, I do apologize. The lady did not mention anything about attendance and I forgot to ask, but I do suggest that those that intend to stay at this motel do make their resevations soon. Eureka is almost totally dependant upon tourist, so when another group is looking for rooms, they go fast. There is a football game in Fayetteville that weekend (Ark vs USC ?), so motel rooms will be at a premium, even as far away a Eureka. This game is sold out, so there will probably be 30,000 strangers in town for the weekend all looking for motels.

Looking forrward to a great weekend of riding.

Okay. I just made my reservations for the 8th through the 11th at Eureka Springs Kettle Campground, Cabins and RV Park. After speaking with the campground attendant, I found out that the cabin has power but no water and two beds. I think he mentioned something about it being two floors. The cabin does have heat and air. He said that you do have to bring your own linens for the bed, showers, and the pool. A bathroom and showering facility is conveniently located just across the street from the cabins. Since their web page hasn't been updated from last years pricing, I got the cabin for $40 per night. Who all is planning on staying at this campground?

I will be heading out early Friday morning. I highly suggest a ride along Hwy. 5 to Hwy. 7 and 341. Additional information can be found here:

Well...I'm open to splitting the cabin with you providing my Goldwing buddy doesn't attend. I emailed him to let him know that I was going and haven't heard back from him yet. If he backs out, I'd be happy to split the cost with you down the middle at $20.00 per night.

I would love to attend NaSTOC, but would would need to share a room with someone. Looking for a non-smoking inidvidual to share. Females encouraged :D

Seriously, if anyone is interested in splitting a room, post here or better yet send me an email at sport_tourer@yahoo.com

I would be coming down from PA and would most likely arrive mid day on the 8th and part early morning on the 12th. Therefore, looking to split a room for the 8, 9, 10, and 11. Alernately, I could arrive late on the 7th and depart late on the 11th, making a room required for the 7, 8, 9, and 10. Am flexible in this aspect.

If someone wants to split a room, I am there!

OK, I just made my reservation at the Campground. I also looked them up in my Trailer Life Campground Guide and it says they only have 15 tent sites. Don't know how mqny of you are camping, but it may get a little crowded and we'll have to take over some of the RV sites. So maybe I'll bring the Wing and the Bunkhouse!!!!!

If you go by the poll, there's 53 planning on going and 19 of those camping.

Some will probably get the cabins.

I didn't really think this would take off like it has. I'll try to do a little research to see if there are some nearby campgrounds we can use as overflow.

Hard to plan stuff like this as you never know how many will actually show up, some cancel some change plans and some show up without ever letting anyone know... just the way it goes.

I'd think the "meet" point would be the main motel, Friday evening around 5:30/6:00. EasieST to find, many will already be there. JuST a thought.

I've got a "tent site" reserved. I'm pretty sure there will be room for a 2nd small tent - you're welcome to it. Just make sure to put a name tag on your bike.

Dinner at 7:00 might work better for me - depends on how good a start I get Friday morning. I expect to be there 6-ish.

bygdawg
08-06-2006, 07:28 PM
No problem. If 6ish works better for everyone, we could try to move it up. I didn't know what everyone wanted to spend for supper, but I tried to find a place that had meals for under $15.00 plus beer in case anyone wanted one of those. It doesn't really matter to me. I just thought, if we were going to have a large group, we'd have better luck getting seated if we gave advance warning.

Well, nope... pretty much meet people at the hotel or campground and see what their plans are. This is about as loosely organized as an event can get but it sure made it easy for me to set up that way :spank1: .

Just show up at the hotel or campground and start talking to people and before long a group will develop and plans will materialize...

The basic purpose, as George would say, is to Go Ride!...

I figured we'd all meet up Friday night...kind of a meet and greet type thing. And then, those that wanted to could meet up Saturday morning for a riding adventure through the Ozarks. I'm thinking Hwy. 7 and 341 in there somewhere. Also, there's a ferry north of there somewhere where you can take your bike across and ride into Missouri. I'm a little fuzzy about the location of that as it's been about two years since we went by there. As always, I'm open for suggestions for other roads in the area. Wife says she ain't getting back on the bike once we get there until time to come home. (Quote: Why would anybody want to ride around up there, if you just rode up there?? ) She is a trooper though, new to motorcycling and taking it in stride.

With that said, I'm planning on riding Saturday morning through early afternoon with a repeat on Sunday. Saturday night we're planning on going to the Passion Play (been twice and wouldn't want to miss it). Afternoon and evening planning on letting my wife drag me around to some of the shops downtown. By the way, called the chamber of commerce and there is a trolley that picks up from the hotel (Country Mountain Inn?) and runs into town (about every 1/2 hour) if any of the other wives were planning on sitting out on any of the day runs.

By the way, found a link to a pretty good loop at Eureka.

That ferry is usually part of the HST BS (Bull Shoals, MO) ride which is the same weekend. Hope to run into a bunch of HSTAers somewhere along that route on Saturday.

I'm figuring on arriving Friday afternoon, after a blast over from WESTOC, dinner and social, then head for Bull Shoals on Saturday. Sunday, do 7 and some 'nother Ozark roads, relax on Monday, and head for Indiana Tuesday morning. Ought'a put me at my sisters in time for dinner.

Spend a week or so there, then up to Chicago to help Adam replace his alternator. Couple days in Chi, then bee line for Kingman. I have a dentist appointment here on the 25th.

OR...

Really take my time headed home and go some sights I've not seen before. I don't HAVE to back by the 25th.

Any suggestions?

Don't worry about the rocks, I usually pick the few pointy rocks that line up where my tent will go and let the sleeping pad take care of the rest.

If there's lots of rocks, you might just end up with a rock totem as an added bonus.

And if there are lots of cows, we can play Cow bingo (you have to have had some country exposure to know what this is). Or a modified form of "frisbee" golf.

Magazine is the higest point between the Rockies and the Applacations. The ride passes Subiaco a very interesting Abbot from days past.I would like to leave the hotel around mid-morning travel at a decent pace and get back to Eureka around four or whenever, anyone who interested is welcome and I am not on any schedule,I am just looking for a good time and a good ride.
Just about any road you care to take out of Eureka is a good ride.I can't think of a bad circle.there is a lot of activity in every direction you go.The town of Eureka is a very motorcycle friendly town, there are signs at most hotels and bars that welcome bikers.
Anybody from NWA that is planning to ride over early Sat. morning I would like to meet up.I will be leaving Bella Vista by 7:00 A.M. and would meet you anywhere.Drop me a line garry.franklin@sbc.net or call 501-977-4156
Looking forward to a good meet,Garry

Pick up a copy of "LET" RIDE" at any Arkansas welcome center. The 16 page booklet has info and maps on riding in Arkansas.

How does this route look fellas? It could be shortened some if needed.

What program did you use to build the route?
I'm at work and can't open it. My streets and trips software is at home.

S&T 2004

Got the rear tire switched out today and new rear brakes put on. Dealer didn't have the rear pads, so I had to put a set of fronts on the rear - same pad, just thinner that the rears are, maybe different compound ? They will do until this rear tire goes though, which will be about 3000 miles.

You guys all packed up? I have almost got the bike loaded now and will finish tonight and heading out around 4pm tomorrow. Will make it somehwere around Paducah, KY and stop for the night. Should roll into ES around 2:00PM or so on Friday.

I hope to be there by the time you get there. I sent you a PM. I'll be leaving out around 6'ish Friday morning. Computer says it's a 7 hour trek for me.

I'm packing as I check threads. I'm heading out Friday around 6 also. Mapquest is saying 8 hours for me, plus I've got miles of twisties between me and Eureka Springs.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Got the SO on the back and 2 other bikes coming up with me so I'll be there a little later than y'all. If I don't take it easy with her on the way up there, she's threatening to take the bus back home.

Shoot, I wish it was only 7-8 hours. S&T says it is about 11-12 for me depending how much slab I do. I am going to try and take 62 from Georgetown all the way to the camp ground, but I gotta do it in 2 days. Don't know which way I will go home on Monday. Gotta work on Tues  so I may have to leave at dark -o'clock on Monday and pull an iron butt home - right at 700 miles.

We're planning on heading back fairly early Monday. Gotta get back to check on the kids.

Don't envy you on your ride home. I pull a 600 miler every month, but I'm usually off the next day.

This is the first time my wife has been over 50 miles on a bike.

I'm planning on going up Friday, 610 mi. by MapPoint (new S&T) - slabbing it almost the entire way, 10 hours w/o stops according to the computer. Probably do the same thing back, unless I feel like it's too much torture. In that case I'll leave Monday for a more leisurely 2 day return, but currently planning on sticking around until Tuesday.

Got a some routes from a guy at work, but have already converted them to MapPoint files. I can MapPoint if anyone wants them.

A couple of PDFs attached.

I don't think I can open that map point, but I shouldn't have any trouble opening the pdf.

I'm working on a route that's pretty long - goes through Yellville and down hwy 14, based on a woman I work with who grew up there. But, it looks like it will be hard to make a wrong turn. Dang, lost again :)

I'm planning on doing these while I'm out there:

Hwy. 5 to Hwy. 7 is really nice, but 341 is about 24 miles of nice
sweeping curves.

AR123 from AR164 (N in between Russellville and Clarksville) This is my
second favorite highway. At Hagerville (AR164), you can go west to
Clarksville (AR21) or east to Pelsor (AR7). If you go east, it's 28 miles
of beautiful twisties. Zero traffic and cops. Good road surface. NOTE:
AR123 continues NE from Lurton (AR7) for about 11 mile of great new
pavement and... without warning, turns to gravel! AR154 from AR7 at
Centerville to AR9 at Oppelo. This goes over Petit Jean Mt. / Park. AR16 /
AR9 from Clinton to Mt. View. 1st leg to Shirley is the best part. AR263
from AR92 by Brownsville to AR14 by Big Flat. Has some really great parts
and some really bad surfaces (especially around Fox to Onia). AR58 from
AR14 (E of Mt. View - fun too) to AR69 at Sage. The folks at Sony
PlayStation must have designed this road. From AR14 to Guion is real wide
and has some 40 mph chicanes that you can FLY on. County deputies like to
hang around just N of Guion. It's gets a lot tighter from Guion to Sage.
THE HOLY GRAIL AR341 from AR14 by Big Flat to AR5 by Norfork. The 17 miles
starting from AR14 is the best part. The road surface isn't as good from
the last 7 or 8 miles. David Edwards, the editor of CYCLE WORLD wrote
about this highway in the Jan. '00 issue. In the Feb. '00 issue, "Tour
Arkansas" ranked in the top 10 (I think) in "101 Things To Do Before You
Die". Waaaaaaaaay before ANY other state! As you can tell Mt.View is kind
of an "epicenter" of good highways. Many of our best are within 25 miles
of Mt. View. There's a Best Western right in the middle of town (at the
intersection of AR5-9-14). There are a few more hotels / motels (most N of
the BW) and several fast food places. Heck, there's even a Wal-Mart near by.

It was great to meet everyone.

We had 25 signatures on the Banner and I didn't think about it until it was too late so a few missed out. Sorry, I'll plan better next time.

Great campgrounds and facilities and the hotel was just across the street.

A big thanks to bygdawg for leading the ride on Saturday.

Another big thanks to Motorcycle Larry for providing some free stuff for give-aways..

Already thinking about next year's NatSTOC, maybe in NC....

Just got home about an hour ago. Me and George Catt went exploring on Sunday and ended up riding about 15 miles of gravel roads. Didn't get to lean it too far, but I bet we were the only ST's that have ever been there :D

Found a GREAT road on the way home - MO76 just north of the camp ground. Rode in rain ALL day today - well, maybe 90%, but it felt like all day.

Thanks to all the fellas for the great company - was really nice meeting everyone.

PS. A BIG thanks to Joe for the push:clap2:

I just made it back in tonight around 6:30. I rode with Keith downHwy. 23 to 40, but then we split up, as he had to head on to Texas, and I had to head East. I suppose this was lucky for him, because I ran into a couple of gully washers on my way in. It rained so hard, that I got soaked even while wearing my Tourmaster full rainsuit. I had a big cross wind to deal with too. The Pig Trail would have been a great road had it not been for the rain. I also really enjoyed 123, 341, 16, 7, 4 and a few others that I can't remember. LOL Anyway, I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. I look forward to next years NatStoc. Heck...maybe I'll even make a few of the other ones. LOL Here are the links to the pictures page:

Jay - I got pounded just north of Mena, and again just after crossing into Texas, so never got to take the raingear off myself. Didn't get home to 11 last night - sat out most of the Texas deluge because the trucker spray on US75 wasn't worth the aggravation. The Talimena parkway is worth the ride, though it's probably a lot nicer when it's sunny and dry. Can't complain though - didn't see one car on it going my way.

Hi folks, I took a detour to the Gap on the way back to OH. Was humbled badly by several sport bikes, but held my own against some others. The ST now has earned the right to wear the dragon logo. Memphis TN was a blur of rain as I went through, but the rest of the ride to the Gap and return ride home was gorgeous. Was great to meet so many of the guys on the board at NatStoc. Nice pictures Jay. Just had to include the picture of Dan and Peg's arduous journey from northern MO to NatStoc with their ST on the trailer. 13293

Got to Jasper, IN last night just after 8PM (CST). Spent an hour or so under an empty car port just north of Land Between The Lakes in S.W. KY yesterday afternoon. Some of youse prolly hit the same storm. WAY wet.

Afer leaving Jason and Dave on Sunday afternoon, I motored on east on AR 16 and other two-lanes til I got close to West Memphis. Found a cheap motel. On Monday, motored again across the Mississississississippi, past Memphis, and continued on good two-lanes til LBL. Took the "side road" instead'a The Trail and by-passed a lot of traffic.

Afer the rain, I stayed well west til the Ohio River forced me farther east. Made it to Jasper, finally, just as the rains were starting again. Spent today visiting family and catching up on mail.

Both WESTOC and NATSTOC were well worth the time. Too many good roads to list.

Next year, it'll be an even longer trip between WESTOC and NATSTOC. Can't wait. ;^)

Got home a little before noon Monday. Had to head out from Eureka at 4:30am to try and beat the rain. We rode in it for about an hour before we finally got ahead of it. Wanda even seemed to enjoy the ride back.

Those were 2 good rides on Saturday and Sunday. I happened on George and Jason at a little diner on hwy 23. Hooked up with them for the afternoon and man was that a good ride. George, I finished out 123 to 74 and followed it over to 7 and up to 62. That 123 will humble ya. ;)

Saturday turned into a real good ride. Jay, it sure didn't look like it was going to be over 400 miles when we were mapping it out!!! It's just hard to turn back when you're in the middle of so many good roads. Appreciate you leading the ride Jay. It was a blast.

Enjoyed meeting everybody and can't wait for the next meet.
