Question for those of you who have the 2610 / 2620 GPSs. How are the touch screens holding up to the daily wear of being poked by gloved fingers?

Mine is holding up ok. Actually some gloves are better than fingers. Problem is with winter gloves, I can't seen to use them to click things
BTW, using a 2620 on a bike is a no no. I think some of us already know that the harddrive will not funtion correctly with vibration.

I've only had mine a few months but I haven't seen any degredation in performance due to using one area more than another... I'm, for obvious reasons, very gentle with it and I don't poke at it hard. Again, I've only had it a few months and have only used it for trips maybe 4 or 5 times but I almost always have it with me. I rarely ever have to adjust the view other than to zoom in or out. The IR remote that someone posted might be nice but those buttons also look small for gloved hands and at $240 seemed a bit pricey.. Garmin has always been very good when it comes to servicing their products. I'm happy with the 2610.

For what it's worth, you can buy (at Staples and other stores) screen protectors for pda's. You might be able to find one that's the correct size, or you can cut it down to size, for your screen on the 2610. They are meant for the purpose of protecting the touchscreen as you poke it alot with that stylus they supply with pda's. It's nothing more than a sheet of clear plastic that can be removed and replaced when it gets mucked up. I know that does nothing to help you guys with the gloves, but at least the screen won't get scratched tryin.

I've tried the PDA screen protectors and haven't found one yet that's big enough to cover the whole screen but what I decided to do was cut two and put the place where the butt up against each other right on the line between the info tabs (when they're showing) and the actual map area. That way the line isn't distracting.
They are a pain to get on just right and to make sure you don't get any tiny air bubbles in it. I was able to do it once but since then I haven't had much luck. I usually change mine once a year. I want mine to last and I put mine through all kinds of weather so I want it protected. It's a PITA.
I went to Office Depot or Best Buy and looked for the PDA with the biggest screen and then bought the protectors for that type of PDA. I think the Palm Tungsten with the piece that slides down on the bottom to expose more screen was the biggest at the time. Who knows, maybe they make them for laptop screens if you look around enough.
There's also a downside to doing this. If you don't get all the tiny air bubbles out when you apply it (follow the directions to put it on) then you'll get a lot of glare when you're out riding. I put up with it for peace of mind that the screen is protected. The less air bubbles you have behind the protector the less glare issues you have but even if you get it perfect it will still have more glare than with no protector at all.
For $10 I think it's worth the extra glare to protect such a big investment.

Guys,
Check out this link
http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/screenprotectorssp2610.htm
I ordered apackage of these (10 per pack) fro gps central in Alberta, Canada.
I'm still on the first one and don't anticipate wearing it out anytime soon.
I figure that this package will last me years.
