I love those Uni-gos but they are too expensive and the only one that I would get unless there is another uni-wheel somewhere.

Two or three years ago, an older couple from Canada were killed while pulling a two wheel trailer behind their Harley on US23 in my area of Michigan. The trailer had a blowout on one tire and the now off balance trailer just yanked them sideways off of the highway and both unfortunately died in the crash. That convinced me to never consider a trailer for my bike. I have seen the single wheel trailers and have wondered what the results of a blowout on one of them would be. :(

My trailer is homemade and I pulled it behind my old 79' Yamaha 750F triple for about 20 years before I replaced the carrier portion of the rig and now use it for camping and shopping ( my SO's farkle :D ).
I never overload it and alway's do a circle check before pulling out.

I had a uni-go on my GL1800, Great Trailer!.. You never could tell it was back there and it tracked with your bike wheels. It's also alot bigger inside than you'd think.

Expensive, Yes.

There I was, rolling down I-90 at 80 mph. Look in my mirrors...Did I juST see something black come from the right trailer tire? A few seconds later the bike STarted to shudder and the mirror was full of black chunks of rubber from the right tire on my old Bushtec. So that's what that funny noise was 8 miles back as I entered the hwy.
Sorry Bushtec the BT tires will support the trailer without any air alright but the heat generated at hwy speed is enough to melt the tube into an unrecognizable ball of rubber  and of couse the tire was very well done too. :chef2:
Nothing dramatic..the tire juST dissapeared 80 miles east of Missoula.
No spare of course so I managed to find a friendly soul with a pickup and we lifted the wounded 'Tech into the truck and went to the Honda shop and they ordered a pair of new tires and tubes. The nice man in the brown truck brought them the next day and we were back on the road in no time.
The Bustec remained totally composed and never presented a threat to life or limb.
Ol' Bushy has been behind at leaST 4 different bikes for ? miles and looks darn good. A bit nicked and dinged but so am I 8)

The trailer has no problems with twiSTies and we juST keep on rolling.

Love my '90 Bushtec and now I carry a spare tire.

There is a page in the owners manual that says "Do not pull a trailer with this motorcycle"
Having said that, no I dont pull with the ST yet, but have pulled a trailer behind my Suzuki Cruiser when I was riding 2 up. Made for a much better ride than piling it all on the bike. I still have the trailer, and will get a hitch for the ST if I ever find a need for more space.

YOU GOT IT LJ!

When I do pull the BT, the bike has nothing on/in it. All the STuff goes into the trailer and the tongue wt is only 20-30 lbs. Much easier on the bike. My fuel mileage is about the same and the bike rides mighty fine. I only use it on campout rides and it is nice to have some comforts like a STand up tent, cot, ice, folding chair etc.

Guys Guys Guys......Your missing the point.

Minimalist is the way to go which is as your God intended when using a bike (IMO).
If you need more room than what the panniers / top box provides then your taking too much with you.

I work the opposite shift. Before a trip I gather old T-shirts, shorts and socks and each day I throw away the set used that day. I still carry good stuff for eveningwear. My method, as the trip goes on, gradually releases more room in the panniers to bring nice things home from Nice or wherever you are! :D

Paul..MinimaliST? I used to run into a guy from time to time at organized rides that traveled with what he had on. No sleepimg bag, no tent, no tarp, nuttin! He'd curl up under a tree or whatever and pull leaves over him, rain or not. He didn't even wear a 'STitch or similar which does suffice as a sleeping gear. I have done minimaliST and it means a tarp and sleepng bag....But after 43 years, it's time to add some comfort. After a 7-900 mile day I like at leaST an air mattress 8)

Hey....I'm old and decrepit :-|

EVENINGWEAR?? Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Dond I can understand the laugh at my grand "eveningwear" comment, when all I really meant was a T-shirt that was coming home with me. :) :)

I supose that guy you know with no sleeping bag, no tent no clothes had no friends as well ;) .

you wouldn't want to be behind him on the road after a few days!!

... you need a Gold Wing ! .... and no stinkin' trailer, either. Even the GL manual states 'do not pull a trailer' and indeed many Wingers don't.

There are some great technical reasons not to (rear axle, handling, etc.) but the basic one has to be, you just cannot ride the same way with a trailer and so why are you on a sport touring bike anyway.

I'm with Paul ... minimalist to the core ! .. :03biker: :04biker:

I had a goldwing with a uni-go trailer (attached pic) prior to having the ST and I could ride just as hard with the trailer. I know, that can't be possible, but it is...

Now, you can ride more aggressively on an ST than you can on a goldwing so I don't know if my statement above would still be true given an ST and Uni-Go combination.

I also don't condone riding aggressively with any trailer, I got the Uni-go so I could ride 2-up and pack as much stuff in the trailer then leave it in the hotel and head off for the real stuff without the trailer....

Uncle Don, would you happen to have a picture of this much talked about trailer?

Regards, and you are not old and decrepit(sp), as I could barely keep up with you at the Sierras, remember?

If you go mimimalist you should increase you cool quotient and say you stayed at the Iron Butt Motel. If you are really way cool you keep your lid on using it as your "pillow".

Louie, I remember Don telling me that he once passed an FJR (two up) on his ST while pulling his trailer.

Shame on you Louie, don't you know it is illegal to remove anything from a national park. Lucky for me I was just outside the park entrance! Anyone got a snow shovel I can borrow.

Does anyone make a hitch for the ST13 other than Classic Ind. in the land down under? I really don't want to have to resort to a trailer, I'd like to put a rack on like the one in the photo below. Going minimalist is great unless the SWAMBO wants to go. She takes up the space needed for my tent, etc.

I see you have a Givi box ... not enough for SWMBO ? ;)

Bushtec makes a hitch for the ST1300. It's available with their proprietary Hiem pin or a standard ball.

I pull a Bushtec with my GL1800 and have considered getting the ST1300 hitch, but I haven't yet. Not sure I'd use the trailer with the ST because I travel solo on the ST and I have a top box. We use the GL for 2-up touring and need more space for extended 2-3 week, 5,000 mile plus trips.
