Greets,
You know that space in the front of the tank between the bottom of the tank and the aluminum frame? Well, theoritically speaking, if someone were to drop a small doodad in that space where would it go? Have a feeling that tomorrow I'm gonna learn how to take the tank off the ST1300...

I dropped one of the front tank washers in that area... never did find it, even after I had the plastic off...

Things dropped there go to "the land of dryer socks", never to be seen again.

Been there, done that...
There is a rubber bladder (it's called a heat guard in the fiche) that stretches over the top of the motor. It's just below the airbox and throttle bodies. It would prevent anything falling all the way into the crotch of the "V". I bet if you take the airbox off, you'll see the doodad laying there on the heat gaurd, just under the center of the airbox.
If it's not laying there ontop of the heat guard then it may have fallen down into the crotch of the "V".
The heat guard is part #12 in the attached diagram
Dropped one of the air filter screws done in that area once. I should have walked away and cooled down. The second screw I dropped about 2 mintues later had me throwing stuff in my garage.
About a month later, bike slipped out of my hand and went over on it's side. After I picked it up ($13,000 bike on it's side creates massive amounts of adrenaline and bionic variety strength for a 160lb guy) both screws were just sitting there on the ground.
No damage to the bike by the way. ST gods must have been playing with me.

I dropped a screw down the inside right side of the fairing. I checked everywhere humanly possible without strippin' her down. I rode without that screw for about a month. Finally I was cleaning the underside, when I noticed some gravel at the bottom of the nose piece under the radiator. The Honda engineers cleverly designed a small pocket there that not only catches road gravel but small miscellaneous motorcycle parts. I found the screw and put it back where it belonged.  :crackup :crackup
Good luck Hewhois, I hope you find it.- john :03biker:

Thanks all :)
Will give the nose job a try. If not there just gonna hit Lowe's and/or Home Depot to find a replacement for the spacer I lost on the RAM mount.
Wonder if I sealed that gap what would happen?

You would have to find a new place to hide your other spare ram mount spacers

You would not believe how many washers and nuts I dropped in the space where the tool kit is while putting on the hondaline top box. My wife made me a string with a magnet on it and got them all. :D

I lost one of those special nuts down there also and couldn't find it. Went for a ride and it moved into sight so I could get it out with a magnet

Just an FYI I bought a magnet on a stick and was able to jam it down in there and also in from the side when I had the cowlings off.
I just stuck it down there and moved it around until I heard a click and was able to pick up both things I dropped down there. Thank goodness for the rubber sheet.

There you have it...just push your bike over. ;)

May be Honda designed that tail of the bike for guys like me that seem to drop and loose a lot of stuff.
