View Full Version : Ignition Key ACC position?

Hi All,
I'm looking to install a Blue Sea Systems fuse box in my new 1300 and I'd like it to be powered whenever the key is in the ON or ACC position but to switch off when the key is off. I plan to use a relay to feed the box but need to figure out where to wire the relay coil to accomplish above described function. I notice an accessory fuse under the left side panel. Could the right spot to tap in be there? Thanks
Yes Jeff, that's where I have my STuff and it does give you ign and acc power. {I accidently (new bike) tapped in before the fuse so I juST added an in-line fuse.}

Hey Jeff,
If you mount the BlueSea up there please include pics. I want to mount the same one but haven't decided where the best place is in the fairing and still get access to the thing.

I think I'm going to put mine under the rear seat where the tool kit would normally go. A 12 circuit job with the grounding terminals slips right in there and is held securely with the rubber strap. I'll have to leave enough slack in the lines to be able to lift the box up out of the tool slot to open and service it though. That would still seem to be easier to access than hiding it under the tupperware somewhere.

There is a (not connected) auxiliary maintenance connector under the passenger seat, LHS. I think it is a 4-wire connector. The black and white wire is switched +12v. Please hook a meter to this wire and double check just in case USA and GB wiring comes out different in the translation!

That's also the access to the ECM for testing and resetting..I wouldn't go there.
It's RED 4p, if that's the one you're referring to Rob.

Wow! anyone got a pic of it? I'll probably look tonight.
Anyone know if it has it's own fuse in the fuse panel or do you need to add your own main fuse before the fuse panel?

dond is once again correct. Shows on the wiring diagram as a red 4 pin labeled SERVICE CHECK CONNECTION and it goes to the ECM. I also wouldn't mess with that.

I was given the info about the b/w wire on the ECU connector being switched +12v by Autocom Audio systems (www.autocomamerica.com and www.autocom.co.uk). I've written to them to get confirmation and to ask them how many ST1300 installations they have done in this way. I will post the reply when I receive it. I was about to hook up the signal wire to a relay energizing my SatNav and audio system, but because of the doubts expressed above I will also await the confirmation before deciding.

I have showing in the Honda service manual
O/W
Bl/W
Br
G/O
The O/W goes to the ECM
BL/W goes to the ECM and O2 sensor
Br goes to ECM
G/O Goes to the ECM and then to ground I think. (bad eyes)
Think you might get into a whole lot of trouble connecting any thing onto that connector.
Why wouldn't you just go up front to the quartet harness where there is usable, fused power for what you want to do.
I hooked up my Blue Sea fuse box through a relay powered when the ignition is either on or acc. I tapped into a wire at the fuse box that powers the clock and I forget what else. I found it in the service manual. I don't remember the colors on the wire as it's been a long time.
I have the Blue Sea fuse box in the tail area. It has worked out well there.

Cool, this is the kind of information I need. Now if you could remember which fuse? Is it labled? I haven't yet procured a service manual so sorry for the elementary questions.

There's another avenue available. Under the left middle cowl, in a soft plastic sleeve, is the accessory plug that the Honda "quad harness" goes into. The quad harness allows you a number of power options or you can get some Hitachi style plugs from Kim at CST and use what you want. A mediocre photo is found here (http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/ST1300_a.html#Diagrams) This is where Honda pulls power for the heated grips, acc. plug, radio (in Europe) etc. HTH

I didn't get the switched power from a fuse, I actually tapped into a wire after the fuse. I just looked at the schematic in the service manual and I'm honestly drawing a blank, I can't find it.
Steve actually has a much better idea using the quartet harness. That's way cleaner than tapping into a wire like I did.
I have since got a quartet harness and use it for my heated grips, radar detector power and gps power. I should have powered my relay from it but that's hind sight.

Using the quartet harness definitely seems to be the way to go. If I can power the RD, GPS, grips and RD Screamer from that harness, I could use a much smaller fuse box for the remaining farkles.

live feed. You can take the earth direct to the battery.
