View Full Version : Need Prayers!!!
Everyone,
My wife had a motorcycle wreck this morning as she was going to work. A dog ran out in front of her. She hit and killed the dog. She is in intensive care. She had to have emergency surgery to remove her spleen. She has 6 fractured ribs, a broken collar bone, and some damage to a shoulder blade. She is on a ventilator and will be for the night and maybe some tomorrow. She also had to have 8 units of blood.
With all that being said, it looks like she's going to be OK. The doctor said that with fractured ribs and the incision, she will have a hard time breathing.
On a side note, she just concluded a ride on her bike a couple of weeks ago through 7 states and Canada... 1,930 miles. Today, she's in a wreck less than a half mile from our house.
We'll take all the prayers we can get. Our faith in God is strong and we'll get through this.
Many thanks to all,
Elmo

Hope you find who the owner of the dog is to cover all medical cost.

Only the best thoughts for your wife . Get well soon.
You all are absolutely the greatest. Words cannot express my heartfelt thanks to each and everyone of you. I know that Carol will be greatly encouraged when I tell her tomorrow how many people all over the USA and even other countries are praying for her. (By the way Beatlejuice, her biker name is "Fred"... :) )
What a day... I just got home from a late visit and she is responding well. She's still in intensive care and on a lot of medication, but she knows who everyone is and can acknowledge our conversations.
We have a long road ahead, but we won't be traveling it alone! I'll keep you posted and thanks again!

I am a member of another small group of folks that have only met online. In the past seven years I have asked for prayers twice for friends of mine. One woman had cancer so bad she could hardly swallow and the other had to have her heart removed from her chest, repaired and reinstalled. Both of them are healthy and vibrant today. Rest assured that Carol will be added to this group of believers and you should expect the best outcome.

Man, she looked rough today... face swollen, bruised, etc...
We made progress, however. When Carol was awake, (which was not very often) she was very alert and knew everyone. She also was able to spell out words, one letter at a time in my hand. This may not sound like much, but at this point, we'll take anything we can get in the way of improvement.
We're at a stage where there are three things they are watching out for; blood clots, infection, and pneumonia. So far, things appear to be going as well as we can reasonably expect.
I continue to draw encouragement and strength from all of your prayers and support. I was up over 22 hours from 6:00 AM Friday to 4:15 AM on Saturday. I got about 4 1/2 hours sleep before I had to get at it again.
I went to the accident site today and stepped off some distances. Carol was approximately 84 feet further down the road from where the dog was lying. The bike was approximately 105 feet further down the road from where she was lying. There were gouges in the pavement from the engine guard she had on the bike, but no tire skid marks. She indicated to me today that the dog jumped out at her as she was going by. Apparently, he was a "car chaser". She didn't have a chance... not even enough time to brake. There also was a small rise in the road near the point of impact and there were ditches on both sides. If he was waiting in one of those ditches, she probably would not have seen it until it was right on her. If she can remember, she should be able to provide more details once she's able to talk.
I was told by a friend of mine that lives across the street from the owner, that the dog had been running loose and that my friend's wife was actually afraid to got to her own mailbox because the dog had growled at her in the past.
In my opinion, it's one thing for someone's dog to get loose by breaking a chain or escaping a pen, but I for the life of me cannot understand why someone would purposely let one run loose in a residential area... especially if it's a car chaser and/or growler. It really frustrates me to think that all of the pain that I'm watching my wife go through, could probably have been avoided.
Didn't mean to gripe, just trying to fill you in a little more on the situation. Please keep the prayers coming until we see this through.
Thanks again,
Elmo

Thanks for the update. I'm glad Carol is doing better.

Terribly sorry to hear of the accident. Thoughts go out to you both. Good to hear the progress. Hopes for full recovery.
What kind of dog was it that she hit? What was she riding?
As you can imagine, I did not pay that much attention to the dog when I came on the scene. It was a white dog and I guess it would have weighed somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 pounds or so ( I may be way off for all I know).
She was riding her 2001 Honda VLX Shadow.
We are having another good day of progress. She may get off the ventilator later this evening or tonight... can't wait to hear what all she has to say.

I am so sorry to hear this, and I hope your wife gets better soon. :(
Fie on those horrible people who have killed their dog and caused your wife so much pain. It is their fault entirely, not the dog's fault. To not train chasing out of him and then to let him run free is just horrible beyond words. Please don't let anything they say EVER bother you, and I'd be happy to write a few choice words about their lack of training if you wish.
My dog tried to chase cars ONCE at the age of 3 months, and he had the fear of ME put into him immediately. Never tried again, and he's a border collie with very strong herding instinct. *sigh*

Elmo,
Just saw this. So very sad to hear about 'Fred'. I'm glad she is progressing and wish you both an amazing recovery. I don't know about you, but I always figured that I would be the one to take the fall and not my wife. I could always handle that scenario in my mind. Not sure I can imagine what a similar twist of fate would do to me personally. I'm hoping that all the prayers help you find at least moments of peace through the recovery and provide support and healing to Fred.

Dana,
We appreciate your prayers and concerns. There's also more information in a couple other threads, "Update From Elmo", and "Elmo's Better Half is Out of the Hospital". I'd try to repeat them here, but I'd probably leave out some of the details that I wrote as they were actually happening.
Take care my friend!
