Last July I was able to get away from work and my Wife ( that was easy she knows my need to ride) for my first long ride (4 days) on then my new ST. I started Sunnyvale Ca. and headed up I5. I stopped in Anderson Ca. at Rick Mayer's seat shop and picked up a rain cover for the ST. Finished the day in Mt. Shasta City. The trip up was very hot but running at 70 mph the bikes heat was not a factor.
The next day (Sat.) I started down 89. Wow great road and very little traffic. Passing Mt. Shasta to the left running through McCoud river to the right. Later in the morning stopping at Burney Falls State Park. By late morning I was in Mt. Lassen. There was still snow around and pilled high in the upper parking lot. I continued south through some great twistys, passing by the famous train Y at Kiddie Ca. I approched I 80 and headed to Boomtown in Nv. where I spent my secont night playing the Texas Tea slot machine. Sunday moring I headed back west to Truckee to reconnect with highway 89. Stopped in North Lake Tahoe to warm up and eat breakfast. Proceded through one of my fovoret towns, Markleeville. Next was the last jont on 89 over Moniter Pass and finished 89 at highway 395. Hot.... My next stop was Carson City Nv. to see my ex-father-in-law. Now the heat on the bike was almost unbearable. The seat and tank were blistering and the blast of hot air off the engine was unreal. Outside temp was 102 on my gage which is always the offical temp. On to Reno and a cool room and a cold beer. Monday morning I was headed back to the Bay Area via highway 80. Where did the time go? I belive then I made the correct choise in buying my ST. What a great motorcycle for this type of riding. Note, the heat has never bothered me since that trip. I hope I have not put anyone to sleep, I thought someone might be interested in this wonderful California road that I call the Sierra Nevada Ribbon Highway. Until next trip see you all on line. Enjoy the coming season.
