I need to ask a question about vibrations from my ST1300. I also ride a Gold Wing - Sorry about that, but how much engine vibration do ya'll get from a ST1300. I'm hearing everyone talk about the smooth engines in this bike but I get vibrations at about 3 grand. Am I being a sissy about this or do I need the Honda shop to look at the dampners?

I'd adjust the couter balancers first, that smoothed mine out alot. My tank would 'buzz' and after the adjustment, much better..
Now, that being said, a snail would produce more vibration than a wing... :03biker:
I've read about the need to tune the counter balances on the ST1300 and have some questions:
1) Are backyard mechanic skills good enough?
2) Do all ST1300 benefit from doing the work?
3) How long does it take to do the work?
Thanks,
Mark

The counterbalance adjustment is simple...
Here's a link to a how to:

The previous owner of my bike never did the adjustment and I did mine around 19k which made a noticeable improvement in the vibrations. I don't know if there's a regularly scheduled maint. period for this, just do it and see if it helps and if not, look into some possible other fix.
Can you tell if the vibration is there if you are in neutral and just reving it up?

I did mine for the first (and only) time last year. I followed the instructions closely and found it to be simple to do. Took about a half hour total. I think my bike was smoother afterwards but it was already pretty smooth to start with. Use the CalSci directions, link below.

The counter balancers are not that simple. I tried it twice and could not see a difference which way I turned the screws. I then left them at the way it was at the factory. You almost have to have a "feel" of the engine. Also vibration could be related to other problems like tires and balance.

Thanks, that's a lot of good information. I'm going to check it tomorrow and will reply with my results. Loren

I just finish adjusting my counter balancers and found it every easy. They weren't far off but made a difference in the vibration at 3 grand. It stopped it completely. Thanks again.

... my ST11 is an awesome bike, and smooth to boot .... but having owned a GL1500, I have to say that *nothing* is as smooth as a flat-6 Wing :) :)
