Adam has been a huge part of STOC since the early years and has always been a great source of help including some great technical write ups. Please congratulate him for making the
August 2007
Member Of The Month.

From Adam himself:

I was able to finally break my parents down and get my first motorcycle
when my best high school buddy moved in across the street with his Yamaha
175. Back then there were plenty of local ‘gravel pits’ to go ride. The only
problem was getting to them without being caught by the police.

I soon graduated to a trials bike, then a few street bikes. I sold my Suzuki
GS750E in 1980 to buy a Heathkit computer so I could complete my senior
thesis project at Seattle University. That was the beginning of my ‘dark ages’
without motorcycles.

Four kids, one custody battle and 13 years later my new wife says, “I wish I
knew you when you were fun and had a motorcycle.” Well, I don’t know about
the fun part, but I could certainly fix the motorcycle thing! A co-worker tells
me about an ST for sale. What the heck is an ST?!? I go test ride it and
immediately fell in love.

I joined the ST email list, got a STOC number (#265), and met a few local
riders including Ben Timms and Ted Norris. They arrived at my house to show
me how to install the PIAA lights and mounts. The only other farkle I had put
on the bike to date were bar risers I purchased from the late Ron Majors. Ben
and Tim rolled up and started telling me what to pull off the bike and where to
put the wires, lights and relays. They also told me about something called
WeSTOC?? I figured if the other guys there were even half as nice as these
guys I needed to check it out!

My first WeSTOC was in 2001 at Kimberley BC. I really hadn’t ridden out of the
Puget Sound Area, so the 500 mile ride to BC was a new experience for me.
When I got there I was sore, but also in awe! So many bikes with so much
“stuff” on them! I was hooked! I <tried> to soak up as much expertise as I
could over the next few days.

I joined up with a small group of riders and rode up to the ice fields south of
Jasper. On the way back we were starting to get nervous about making the
banquet. What came next was a ride I’ll never forget. For over an hour we
“flew” and only saw a few cars, a group of Harleys (which we passed with
extreme prejudice), one deer and a coyote standing in the road. When we hit
Radium Hot Springs and stopped for fuel we were ‘high-fiving’ each other after
our “spirited” ride down from the mountains.

I started farkling my own bike and created a web site to document the
process. I was getting so much help from other ST riders I figured I’d share
what I learned by creating my web site.

I’ve been to every WeSTOC since 2001 and have done a couple of SS1000’s
to get to them. Last year I decided to put in a proposal for a WeSTOC in the
Seattle area and “give back” to the ST community. I didn’t get to do any
riding this year, but I had a great time hosting my ST friends on my home turf!

I’m really looking forward to Taos next year so I can just “Go Ride!”

MoST deserving! Adam and Team engineered a very smooth, well planned and enjoyable WeSTOC XII. Heck, there was even some talk about "weather engineering"???? Cudos also to the wives/significant others who certainly helped to support the efforts and goals.

Onward to Taos!
