Anyone interested in a Pie run this Saturday?
Was thinking about Breakfast at Barrett Junction and Pie for lunch in Julian...
...I don't plan on inviting any slow cruiser's this trip. So I will be at Barrett on time this time...:)
Post a reply if you are interested. :)

What's your breakfast time slated for? I think some pie and icecream would be pretty good. I think I could be persuaded to make it. :D

Thinking 8:30 or so?
I am also kicking around the idea of eating breakfast up at the lookout over Elsinore and then busting out a more northern route to Julian.
I guess that would be better for you so you could just meet me up at the lookout and then we could cruise up palomar or something?
Not sure.... totally open about it at this point...
Heck, after that marathon run Dana and I did on the way back from WeSTOC, anything local seems "short".... :)

I'm late to the party but want to try out my new Sargent seat.
So I'm planning on meeting up with you guys at some point once I know the route.
As I mentioned to Dan, riding to Julian via Highland/Bandy Canyon/78 is nice, and gives us a chance to go south on Sunshine Hwy -- which is the best direction to ride it IMO,
It's gonna be hot out there. Did I mention HOT?

Your route seems like a good one.
I'll plan on meeting up with you at Toms then and follow your lead.
Here's the addy for those of you who want to meet up:
Tom's Famous Family Restaurant
505 W 5th Ave
Escondido, CA
(760) 737-2377
Should be there by 8am.
I think we can be in Julian by 11am? Watcha think Mandel? Meet everyone else at the Julian Cafe?

I think I'm going to go my own way and start the day at 0800 in Barret Junction per your original plan, then maybe meet you at Julian for pie at 11:30. I'm sure it will be pretty busy by then. There are a few roads that I want to ride between 94 and 8, then maybe the Sunrise Hwy over to Julian.

Since they are calling for some cloud cover, it shouldn't be that bad on the bikes out to Julian. If I'm able to make it (still in the air) I plan on coming back via 79 through Temecula. :biker:

Breakfast: I am sure any time between 8-9am is going to be fine.... I'll be there sometime between that time. Shouldn't be too tight on schedules....the pie in Julian is what matters... and we have plenty of time to make that to meet the other south guys.... :)

Fred, from what I'm hearing it's not suppose to be that hot on Sat. remenants from hurricane Dean (wonder if it's any relation to STDean?) are suppose to keep it below 90, high for the day predicted to be 87 (http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USCA1029.html).
Your choice....
Mandel, I gave it some thought, but I really prefer this direction, besides I really like Barret Junction for breakfast. Evidently John Diego does too.

Bob, sorry, Vicki is working that weekend and unless there is a last second change, I do not expect her to attend. I understand your wife's position; it has been voiced many times by other wives. I would have responded right away if I thought Vicki would be in attendance, so you read the absence of a reply correctly.

Bob (AzDesertRider) would be nice to meet you at Barret Junction. That will make three for that ride, if you choose to attend. Maybe you can talk Tom and Ray into joining you. That would be a really nice group. Unless I’ve missed something, John Diego and I are the only solid members meeting at Barret Junction at the time of this post. I do intend to make it to Julian for pie but there’s a lot that can happen in the 2 ½ hours between 0900 when we will likely finish breakfast and 1130.

Wow, yeah it was a great ride today. I got home and mowed the grass, after that I was wiped out. Laid down to catch my breath and fell asleep for an hour. It was great seeing a lot of the SoCal regulars and seeing a few of the rare participants.
Rick nice to share some road with you again!
Joe and Don, sorry we didn't get to ride together today, catch you on the next ride I hope. It was nice seeing you again anyway. Joe, nice chatting with you for a bit.
Bob (AzDesertRider), glad you could make it for breakfast, I thought the call of breakfast at Barret Junction would for sure pull BigTom in too, but alas, I find that even that doesn't always work. I'd never been on Chruch Road before, it wasn't very long, but it sure was nice.
Bob, (SupraSabre) very nice to see you and your better half on the road today. I know we didn't ride together today, but I'll be happy to anytime!

Elk, damn good meeting you. I was glad to make a new acquaintance today. Hope next time we get to chat a bit more.
John, as always, good riding with you friend! I have to remember to keep you behind me, otherwise my gas mileage suffers. I don't do so well at speeds above 80.
Dan, thanks for dis-organizing. Sometimes all it takes is a good destination and a good date. I was like the perfect STorm as we converged on Julian. I think having two breakfast destinations actually worked in our favor.

Looks like it's a bit too late to count me in for this one, Dan, but guess what?
I sold the S2000 today (sad day). So to feel better, I washed and waxed the ST1300 in PREPARATION FOR MY RIDE HOME TO SAN DIEGO!!! That's right! Although I can't sell my house here in Chicago, living in San Diego next to my main man is way more important.
You will see my headlights coming all the way on Route 66, and eventually over the top of the mountains, down Highway 8 sometime the first or second week of October! YEAH!
Now, I need a recommendation on a seat, 'cause I ain't ridin' 2113 miles on that stock piece of crap. Sargent or Corbin? Remember I have the Pan European top box.
Very exciting!!!

Dude, I want to order a seat ASAP, so let's talk offline soon, ok?
I can't wait to show you non-East County natives around some back roads (I thought that would sound funny coming from a guy that currently lives in Chicago).
Also can't wait to get my bike back in the capable hands of the world's best mechanic: Craig Enfield at CycleWorld of El Cajon!!!

Dennis, looking forward to meeting you! Dan has already warned us of your inpending arrival. El Cajon needs more ST1300s. I'm like a lone wolf here.
Keep the rubber side down!

Ok, someone asked for pictures. Well, I only took two so others will have to fill the gap. I know I seen other cameras at the event. This is the breakfast at Barret Junction (http://www.barrettjunctioncafe.com/) crew.

Tried for the moving action shot of 8 ST's in a row, but results were weak at best.
Took a little off road detour to the top of the hill next to the Buckman Springs Rest Area. No Hang-Gliders up there yesterday.

So Bob, are you brave enough to do Alaska with me on my KLR with that Strom?

Hi Dan,
Yes, an Alaska trip is eminent. I know of a couple groups going next year, but have no firm plans.......yet!

:) Yeah.... I am going to work towards an '08 goal, but reality might set in (work schedules, etc) and push it out a year.
Planning it (and Farkling the KLR) is really a labor of love though...so I aint complaining... ;)

Hi Guys!
It was a great ride and I was finally able to get my better half out to a ST gathering. She even made comments on how much better behaved this group was compared to the ole SabMag group riders!
After we left you all to your own in Julian, we rode up the 79 then took 371 upto the little Cafe at the 74, had some lunch, then came back down the 371 to the 79 and took it back to Temecula. Temps were a little high to be comfortable, so that took some of the fun out of it, but we still had a good time and as always, it was great seeing everyone again and fanstatic meeting all that I haven't met before. And as a couple of you realized, my memory isn't too good, it just takes a bit to jog it every now and again. :(

Well I know I had a good time! An hour and a half ride before breakfast is a good way to start the day, and general chit-chat with the guys is always bonus. Some more riding only now it's in the hills and then pie in Julian how much better can it get? :)
When we all parted ways in Julian I went with Bike Guy for a trek over Mt. Palomar. Well the ride up the East side was fine but I did an oops! going down the West side (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27698) and sprained/strained my ankle. :(
All-in-all I had a good day in spite of myself. For those that thought it was a little warm, get a cooling vest. I put mine on at Palomar for the rest of the ride home and it was GREAT!

Have you had the foot/ankle looked at yet?
I often ride with my boot touching the ground (before the pegs do) and haven't had that problem...yet. I'll think of you next time I do. Maybe at the class I'm taking up at Willow Springs, I'll learn how to put my knee out there instead!

I've touched down several times. I've never had my foot catch. I'm guessing at this point that that was just plain dumb luck.

Thanks, Dana. Looking forward to meeting all of you guys, too. Where the heck were you when I was looking for riding buddies since 1985!?!?!? Anyway, I will be living out in Rancho San Diego, so let's do Harbinson Canyon, 94, Old Highway 80, Sunrise, Palomar, Back side of Palm Springs to Dana Point via Lake Elsinore and the good ol' lookout restaurant a la Ortega Highway, Angeles Crest...DAMN! I sure miss the ol' "hood"!
How's that for knowing my way around "your" town!?!? Not bad for a guy from Chicago, eh?
See you at Motoworld on 09/22, when I am there for the weekend getting move logistics set up and buying my new rain suit for the 2113 mile ride HOME, baby, yeah!!!!!
(Can you tell I am happy to come home?)
:)

All good places to ride. I'm not sure I want to try it all in one day...hehe
Ah, I was in Long Beach from 1984-1992 riding a 1979 Honda CB750F

Man you sure got that right! I won't question your knowledge of the area. I was living in El Cajon for the first time between 1976-1979. I remember when no one was on Wildcat Canyon Road. I thought I had found motorcycle heaven!

Dan can give me a call when you get in town and I'll buzz over there to shake your hand and you can admire my beautiful :biker:
