This will be a Poll initially and then once we settle on a plan, I will ask one of the mods to remove it and replace this thread with the actual fee schedule, if there is any.

Let me know what you think!

I like to pay my own way. I'll kick in as needed but no "profit" motive. Money for a charity? Just say so. Money to cover host's expenses? Heck yes (no out-of-pocket for the disorganizers.) That being said, tho, less is more when it comes to STOC events. WeSTOC is an exception, not a rule.

My opinion,

The idea would be to donate the rest to charity / st-owners.com or something....

Last thing I need is to show a profit for something like this on my taxes!! :)

Another option would be to reduce the registration fee as we get more people signed up....problem with that would be refunding stuff.

<D>
PS: I don't plan on being "That ST-1100 LiST Guy" that you told me about at the WeSTOC dinner....the guy that was going to print the list...took everyone's money and then disappeared!...

This is the place we are looking at for the "Included Lodging"....

http://www.laparks.org/dos/camps/seely.htm

My guess on the minimum amount of people is that they want to make money on food, etc.... I think they have a general store or something there....not sure. I'll call over the next week and find out.

I'm pretty much with George on this one... I originally started camping because I couldn't afford to stay in hotels, even the cheapest ones, and tour as much as I like. A $10 campsite split 2 ways is a pretty cheap place to stay and I keep my hotel packed on my bike.. Also, I'll take ramen noodles with me if I need dinner.

I've always found it's easier to just say 'Here's where the event is' and 'Here's some hotels and here's a campground'. I don't even try to get any group rates for anything since sometimes they expect you to commit up front, if the min number is not met... not always, but sometimes.

The best part of not having fees is if someone decides they can't make it, you don't feel obligated to refund a fee or get stuck if you haven't met a minimum level to satisfy the discount. It sounded like Adam was close to that at WeSTOC but I know everyone would have helped to fix that if it actually had occurred.

Personally, I say keep it simple. If you make it too complicated then you might end up deciding it's not worth the effort the next time around.

This is YOUR decision as you are planning this so I'm not trying to tell you what to do, please don't take it that way at all. I do things differently than most people :nuts1: and I do enough planning, scheduling and budgeting at work so the last thing I want to do is plan/schedule/budget an event for something I consider recreation... that's just me... I'm lazy.

No matter what you decide, people will show up, I'm certain of that. If you do this and there's anything left over, pick a charity and give it to them or buy some items to be given away. No need to give it to the site at the moment, we have enough to keep the site going for almost a year and there's no reason that balance needs to be any bigger than that. If the site got to the point where hosting was an issue I'd say something but we are fine so let's help those that need help.

What Joe said.

I did several (7?) TWISTARs for HSTA. Got tired of all the b.s. including AMA sanction and insurance, motel gurantees, t-shirts, food, etc. Finally felt like I was forcing people to have fun. I'll take the dis-organize route every time now. 666 was like that for both years, only work was to insure that there _would_ be lunch at Hannagan Meadow. Everyone got there the best way they could, hooked up on their own for day rides, had lunch, went home. Worked great.

Dan, if ya keep this up they'll be hittin' ya up to do WeSTOC there! Better be careful. :D

It kinda is a perfect site for WeSTOC..... :)

Advice under advisement.

We'll see what everyone says over the next week or so. If no body else chimes in, I'll just post the options and roll.

Thanks chaps!

I agree with Joe and Georgo. And as one of the orginators of the CresSTOC idea I would prefer to see it fee free. Keep it simple. Build it and they will come. I don't mind chipping in for the BBQ though. I'll pay for my lodging. gas and smokes. Yeah - crash, gas, blow... that should do it! LOL.

:)

I'll post the CreSTOC information up this week (routes, etc.)

Unless the count goes crazy this year, I can probably foot the bill for the food again this year. If a ton of people show up, I'll put a coffee can out for donations. ;)

Count me for the BBQ donation Dan, unless it something cheap like hot dogs, then I'll throw ya a buck or two! LOL. No sweat I punch in!:clap2:

If we have 20-30 people this year, I'll be able able to foot the bill. Anything bigger and I'll ask for donations. ;)

I plan to do "Dmulk's famous BBQ FAT burgers"...they seemed to be a hit last year. ;)

If someone wants steak (or a BBQ non-meat option) or something else grillable, they can bring it and I'll just leave it going.

There will also be 2 coolers filled with ice, soda and some domestic beer. If someone wants something more, there should be room. ;)

I will be only fair for us to pay a fee to particpate. You are providing the dining facilities as it is now.

Dan, I don't know much, but I do know that those in attendance will not feel good about letting you foot the bill, it's just not right.. .therefore, the can will be passed around and you will take what's there or you will insult your guests..

LOL :nanner1:

Since I'm planning on CampSTOC, I'm going to have to say no since it's hard for me to take to trips so close together, however, if I can't make CampSTOC then CreSTOC will be next on my list.

Sorry, I wish I could make them all..
