What: BamaSToc

Where: Oak Mountain State Park

When: October 19th, 20th, and 21st
Click here to Attend (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=150&day=2007-10-19)
Additional Information:

http://www.bcvb.org/ttd-attractions-detail.asp?ID=OAK

Primitive camping will run you just north of $10.00. Cabin roughing it is available, but the cabins are two miles from the primitive campsites. They said that they would be more than happy to put all the ST folks together. I promised that we wouldn't raise too much sand, and that we'd only sing five or six songs. :crackup

Additional things we will do:

As usual we'll try to come up with a group ride or can break up into smaller groups for rides. We'll more than likely visit the Barber Motorsports Park, as there will be a vintage event going on. We might even find a cool place to eat dinner in the surrounding area.

Be there, or be square.

Oh Boy, I'm getting excited...a bunch of wildmen
in my own hometown for the weekend.

Let's try for one meal at www.29dreams.com...pretty
good $10 all you can eat breakfast Sat and Sun..and good people/bike watching on weekends.....

Barber Motorsports Musem is the bomb and the local riding is not challenging, but it is beautiful and not crowded.

It's on the calendar now I need to get the bike's maintenance done.

Looking forward to the 1st annual BamaSToc.

Hey Bygdawg me and Lisa are going to Knoxville for a long weekend to see
h20rider(Kreis) and BobbyLee , What day are you planning to go to barber? it's only 274 miles from Tn !! Is your cousin Eddie coming to the party we really enjoyed his company back in april at campstoc along with lou and gordon. We will ride down for the day then head home in the early evening. looking forward to seeing folks again and meeting a few new friends. anyone in the knoxville area want to tag along with us for the day ?

bygdawg

I'll probably do the Barber thing on Saturday. I sent the link to the thread to Eddie to see if he'd want to join in. AT this time, I'm not sure if it'll be the both of us or just me. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I am riding up on Thursday the 18th.

I called today and was told no more cabins in Oak Mountain are available. The pics show some nice cabins - they should be for around $100 a night. I was going to reserve one in hopes that some folks would like to share it. After I made the decision to come to Barber for Vintage Days and posted here about it I learned a club I belong to here is doing a weekend there as well. Most of them will likely find hotels though.

Are there other more primitive cabins in the park as well that I should have asked about?

I mentioned BamaStoc and it didn't mean anything to the gentleman on the phone at the campground number. He said that individual sites are around $10-11 a night ( I forgot the exact amount) but if a number of us are camping together then he suggested a group site. For $3 a head up to 50 campers can be accommodated in one large site. A site like that has a deposit of $30 a night.

So far it doesn't seem like that many of us will be there and my club might make another 5 or 6. Probably not enough to make a deposit on a group site.

No other cabins that I know of. Some of you campers may want to let them know asap that you plan on camping and that you'll be with other ST riders and would like to be setup in the same area. I will be there, but I'll be spending nights at my cousin's house in B'ham.

MOTEL ROOMS:

These are all on SR 119 (Valleydale) and Interstate 65
South of Birmingham (Exit 246) ...the SW corner of this intersection
is the entrance to Oak Mt. State Park....this location is about
20 miles from Barber Motorsports which is on the east side of B'ham in Leeds. Usually, especially on weekends everyplace in Birmingham is close and most of these will have locations on the SR 280 corridor and other parts of town....

Some prices include tax and some may not, so check if you
need to and most will offer some sort of affiliated discount:

Best Western Oak-Mt Inn $99.00/Microwave & Frig.
205-982-1113 800-528-1234

Travelodge $60 Double occ 205-987-2233

Sleep Inn $96 Double occ 205-982-9800

Ramada Ltd $95 Double occ 987-0444

I don't think the area around Barber's has many motels and just do not know that area well....

bygdawg
09-25-2007, 08:33 AM
Well...I realized a long time ago that you will only have time to do the things that you make time to do. It's kind of like having kids. If you wait until you have enough money, you'll probably never have kids because when do you ever really have ENOUGH money. I wanted a boat for a while as well but decided on a jet ski instead. It's cheaper. It's easier and cheaper to haul because it's not as heavy as a boat. It's kind of like riding a motorcycle on the water, except without the sinking. :D There are a ton of nice used units out there that can be had at a reasonable price. On an even brighter note, boating season is almost over, and the deals should spring up during the winter, especially with some folks needing cash for the holidays. Here's a breakdown for going to BamaSToc:

Me: Honey. I think I'm going to do this ride in Birmingham with some of the other ST guys. Would you like to go?

Wife: When is it?

Me: Oct. 19th, 20th, and 21st.

Wife: Oh...I can't leave on that Friday because I used my two personal days when we rode to NatSToc. (She teaches)

Me: Oh...Okay. We'll I'll probably just stay with my relatives that live there and head back on Sunday.

Wife: Okay. I need to catch up on some stuff around here anyway.

See how easy that was. Maybe you just need a little longer leash. :o:

And to be a bit humble:

1) What do you call a drug ring in Austin, Tx?.... A Longhorn Huddle.

Oh wait, UT football players cannot get into a huddle together. It's a parole violation to associate with known felons.

2) Book' Em Horns!

3) Four UT football players are in a car. Who's driving? The police.

4) In response to all of the trouble recently, the UT football program has adopted a new honor program----
Yes, Your Honor, No Your Honor.

5) Mack Brown has hired a new Defensive Coordinator--F. Lee Bailey.

6) What do you say to a UT football player in a suit? Will the defendant please rise.

I'm not a camper so will be booking a room or cabin somewhere. Anyone else already reserved somewhere?

False start as I've got a competing engagement now on the 20th, but now I'm excited to make a ride up to Barbers - so will leave tomorrow for 2 nights, look the area over and check out some of the back roads on my own.

OK Guys it's time to sign up if you think you're coming.

We really need a good estimate of campers to see if we need a group site.

I have no problem making the reservation and deposit if it looks like we might have more than 2 or 3 campers.

Please register on the attend page and post whether you will be camping.

The clincher: I let her read Jay's dialog with his wife and finished up with "but Deeaaar, Jennifer is letting Jay go and look at all the things he's got on his plate." (I gave them a big build up after NaSTOC, now paying off!):hat1:

Great fun at BamaSTOC. Had to leave today after sharing part of the morning Saturday ride. Here's some quick pics. First is the BamaCamp. Second is the Saturday ride group, 5 riders, 5 STs, years 2003-2007 - and any ONE of them would be a better representation of STs than anything at the Barbers Motorsport Museum where there were no STs to be found in the building! Last pic is STeads with riders: bygdawg, sandman, Lou65, motomac, and Shuey.

I guess we were at Barber that day as we were there both Friday and Saturday taking in the museum and the vintage racing and trials competition. The facilities at Barber Motorsports Park are fantastic. I am already making plans for next year's Vintage Weekend at Barber.

It was nice to meet everyone that made it there and thanks to those made it possible. Thank you Mac, Gordon, and Lou for the campsite hospitality.

I'm game. I met with Gary Franklin and a couple of others that rode into New Albany last night. They made it to B'ham on Sunday, but I think everyone had cleared out. They spent most of the day at Barber and arrived in NA around 7:00 last night. We went out for a quick bite to eat before they headed back to the hotel for some rest and to prepare for a rather soggy ride into Arkansas today. Man...I hope they catch a break in this weather.

Well, things have calmed down here at the home front, laundry done, camp gear washed and repacked, ets. I took a few pictures during the time in Alabama and figured I post a few.
The first one is a '67 Bonneville. That is the very frist NEW motorcycle I ever owned. The side car rig was taken from the 3rd floor of the Barber Museum window. The campfire wasn't a good picture, but it was a heck of a campfire.
