Parking for BBQ Dinner:
I'm located in a small, quiet cul-de-sac. I have friendly neighbors and have done my best to spread the word that we are having a BBQ Saturday evening and that people will be coming and going on motorcycles. I'd like to ask that you respect them and do your best to find parking that doesn't create a problem for people trying to get in their residences.
I'd also like to ask that, during the BBQ, you park in a way that maximizes space for other's to park.
Parking Update for the BBQ!!
We are going to try and keep the parking deck open at my cabin for people to congregate....in order to do this, I checked down the street and if you continue PAST my house to the end of the road there is a vacant house. You should be able to park there if you can't find parking under the tree at the center of the cul-de-sac in front of my place.
Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to call on that lodge place yet to check on the rental details. Maybe if you have time, you could buzz them to see what "Minimum of 125 people" means as well as what it will take to rent the whole place?.... :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm kind of new to the group. I don't get a lot of time for riding outside of my daily commute. (2 year old daugher and the wife refuses to passenger with me since the baby was born) I've done a few rides in the past with my PC800. I was waiting for something "in the area" to come up. This sounds like tons O' fun and a good way to put some faces with names. Count me in.
A co-worker rides a honda cruiser (VTX I believe), I'd like to invite him along unless there are any objections to disturbing the peace and quiet of honda's ST11/ST13/PC800's. :)
Other guy I ride with is not invited (harley), he don't wave. :(

Ok newbie/possible stupid question. I see there are a bunch of recommended places to stay. What's the deal? Are they very close together or is this a kind of "stay here on friday night. Stay this other place on Saturday" etc...
I am not usually the 'need every minute planned for me' type, but is there a bit more of a schedule somewhere? Or am I just jumping the gun?
I'm just asking cuz I don't know if I'll be staying somewhere (other than home in Simi Valley) on friday night or not.
Thanks

No sweat! It is a weekend get together for the ST and other bikes crowd. A STOC Event! WOO HOO! Dan has in his original announcement post listed some motels/hotels/campgrounds in the area. I have already made a reservation for one of them for Sat. night. I like to puke in the middle of the night and snore very very very very very very loudly! LOL. Check Dan's original event post and pick a place!

I think you should ask Byron where he likes to ride. He's all over them thar hills (if you know what I mean). I'd like to see some new sights, some roads now open that have long been closed if at all possible. Other than that, anything with lots of scenery is cool with me.
Speaking of Byron, has anyone seen him lately? Kind of miss seeing him around.

Can anyone recommend a quiet campground for CreSTOC for pitching a tent that has hot showers in abundance?
I live in southern Arizona and figure with gas prices as they are, I could save money by camping out, and put the money in the gas tank. Of course that assumes late May weather is not too chilly. Anyone else plan on camping out and have a place in mind? Thanks. Fastlane Jammin in Sierra Vista Arizona.

Thanks Dan. That cross-references to Camp Switzerland (24558 Lake Dr
Crestline, CA 92325, (909) 338-2731).
For benefit of others, I spoke to owner on phone today (23 April). He's been there 42 years. Offers tent space for $27/night or alternatively, cabins at $85/night (2 dbl beds) plus tax = $282.85 for 3 nights ($94.28/night). Does not take credit cards; have to mail in a check no later than 2 weeks prior (address for check payment is Camp Switzerland, PO Box 967, Crestline, CA 92325) After receipt he calls to confirm receipt. Of note: No refunds for cancellations once payment received. As someone previously noted, he is strict on pets so if anyone intends to bring a pet, ensure you ask to get the skinny on pet policies there.

No worries, Steve.
This campground is literally at the bottom of my hill where the BBQ will be held....so you could walk to the BBQ and back to your tent. No problems with riding after a couple beers which is a good thing!
See you there!

There's a super market real close to my cabin that we can get extra food from if needed, but I would rather just have everything so I can hope to enjoy the BBQ with everyone else.... :)

I have a couple of questions.
1. I'm not a garmin guy, is there any way to see/transfer/convert the route info from the garmin file? (I use a Mobile Crossing GPS, probably won't be able to translate it to work with my rig)
2. I have a friend with a cabin in Big Bear. I'm planning to stay there. What kind of logistical problem am I going to have staying that far from Crestline?

GPS: Do you know if your software will accept a .GPX formatted file? (This is the GPS eXchange format)?
Bigbear: Shouldn't be a problem at all. The morning of the main ride, we will actually be passing through BigBear and probably stopping at the Chevron for gas. It'd be a good place to meet if you don't plan to hook up with breakfast at the Loose Caboose.... It's about 35minute cruise from big bear to my place.

Last year we started from my cabin @ 7:30am and stopped at various points along the way to meet up with people.
Since it's a big loop, we ended up back at my cabin ~4:30PM. Dinner took about ~1.5 hours to prepare and people just hung out and visited. :)
...I hesitate saying this, because it's too early to confirm yet, but there is a chance that Megumi's daughter (Minami) will be in a state volleyball championship that day....so there is a chance that I will be asking for volunteers for food assembly / preparation.
I'll have everything by Friday evening, but I might need some extra hands to help feed the 30 people.... just saying is all... ;)
Cheers!

Looking forward to seeing every one.
Yes.... I was hoping this year would be the same.... but Megumi is the genius when it comes to hosting things (she does it professionally for Sanyo)....anyway, I'll be doing my best and with you guys helping, I am sure it will be a good time.
If we prep some of the food Friday night and are back at the cabin at 3, I am sure we can get it done. :)
I can't wait!!

This is a excellent idea and one that maybe should be practiced at every STOC Rally. A dontation can placed for a charity. It would make a memorable event much more memorable. I vote for America's Second Harvest: The Nation's Foodbank Network (http://www.secondharvest.org/). Or maybe one of Joe's choice?

Personally, I'd prefer to let people donate to whatever their choice would be.
I'd rather not make it part of an event... if so, then it seems too much like united way at work..
I think it's a great thing to do, donate to a charity, but I think it shouldn't be part of the actual event, it should just be up to people to do that on their own.
Just my initial opinion..

I know Joe! Just a itty bitty bit of humor. I still think it is a great idea and one I may introduce at my (our) events like SeaSTOC, etc... One of the joys of riding with others is the sharing, and sharing our joy with others less fortunate only heightens our purpose on Earth. This I believe. I am not a rich man by any stretch for sure! But every year I donate something to my favorite causes; such as hunger in the richest country in the world and environmental issues (being a tree-huggin' nature photographer and all). You're right though Joe, people should always give from their heart and not be forced into it... UNLESS UNTIL I RUN THE COUNTRY!!! ;) :crackup

Since I have to work on the Friday and Saturday of CreSToc, I'll be heading up to Dmulk's for the BBQ Saturday after work. I have one other ST rider who has to work Saturday also. The two of us are going to meet up at my job and then ride up to Dmulk's. There's already the chance that we'll be meeting up with a third ST rider. So, since I know that a few more of you might be working on Saturday as well, I wanted to offer up the.......

If anybody's interested, we'll be meeting at Callaway Motorsports in Riverside at 5pm (closing time) and heading up the 215n to the 30 and then up the 18 to Dmulk's cabin. Depending on who wants to meet up, we can set up a few meeting points along the way so riders don't have to go all the way out to Riverside. Just PM me if you're interested........and don't forget to RSVP with Dmulk to let him know you're coming as well.

The problem is getting those guys to answer the phone. I tried on and off for about two weeks and no one ever answered the phone. Dan, I think you'd have better luck dropping in on them sometime when you're headed to the cabin for the weekend and find out what the skinny is. Maybe get a phone number that someone actually answers. The other issue is getting an LA resident to reserve it so we can get it a reasonable time in advance. I was pretty fed up with it after all my effort showed so little reward.

In all honesty, I know this event is going to run it's self. I'm sure there will be plenty of people pitching in at the BBQ to keep things clean and organized and everyone will have a good time!!
....yeah...little stressed last night putting the ST back together though....today is the official "No Changes to bike, 2 Weeks" until launch for my WeSTOC trip too....so the bike had to be finished for this weekend's shake down ride. :)
See you all soon!!!

So I'm checking the shirts out and they look good....BUT....instead of the CreSTOC 08 small on the front left breast, he left it full size and it's dead center. Not a big deal....more promotion for the event...just not as elegant as I would have liked.
Either way, they look good.
And they are free....so Don't complain!.... :)

Hi Tony,
The door will be open.
I'll be expecting Samantha (the lady helping with food preparation) to show up late morning / early afternoon. If you can help her out, that would be great.
Otherwise, kick back, watch something on DTV, visit...enjoy the town. :)
Looking forward to catching up with you!!

Parking Update for the BBQ!!
We are going to try and keep the parking deck open at my cabin....in order to do this, I checked down the street and if you continue PAST my house to the end of the road there is a vacant house. You should be able to park there if you can't find parking under the tree at the center of the cul-de-sac in front of my place.
Thanks!

Brother Vic and I will be at Round Table Pizza Friday night at 7pm. That is directly across the street from McDonald's set back about 100 ft from Lake Dr.
Been here since Thursday and looking forward to other happy faces. Met some locals and they said "Paula's Place" is a great place to eat (too small for a group of riders to all eat at once) but her 4-egg omelette this morning was awesome (for just $8.50). She serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Paula's Place is just down the street from Loose Caboose (on the west end of Crestline in the old village area); Loose Caboose looks like the consensus to meet up on Saturday morning at 7am for grits.
See anyone who can make it tonight!

I'll be out the door in about 15minutes. Hoping to make to to the dinner tonight. It will depend on traffic. Wish me luck on a Friday afternoon.

See you all soon!! Please ride safe.
Oh...and one more thing.....the speed limit through town is 30MPH.....and I have seen our local CHP patrolling a few times today.
Cheers!

PS: It looks like the Bowling Ally (the one that closed two years ago) seems to either be OPEN or is being worked on with the intention of re-opening.....man...I really hope that happens.... STOC bowling would be great!!
