What is the recommended way to connect Non-Honda heated grips? Should I buy a quartet harness and connect to it? Or just wire the new grips back to the fuse block? If I use the quartet harness can I buy a connector that will plug into the harness then connect to the grip heater wires?

I just completed this installation myself yesterday. I connected them to the heated grip connector on the quartet harness. You can buy the matching plugs from www.electricalconnection.com to make for a very slick intallation. Using the Honda factory intended connection for this insures that the heaters will be turned off with the ignition key and it saves you from running wires all the way back to the battery or fuse panel.

So Jeff, Did you use the Symtec grip heaters? Also what grips did you use? I have already ordered BMW grips from Chicago BMW. Total including shipping was around $20. Next week I need to order Symtec heaters and Helibars from Kim at CST.
Thanks for the info on the connectors I'll order them and the quartet harness. :D

Yes, that's the brand I used. I too installed the BMW grips, about $15 locally.

For those of us too lazy or cheap to buy the Quartet Harness, does anyone know the wire color that the above mentioned Q.H. would plug into for the "igniton on" connection? The Posi-Tap works wonders for situations such as this. http://www.posi-lock.com/
I'd guess there is more than one "hot only with ignition on" wire, is amperage draw a concern if I picked the wrong one?

It's a red wire with a black stripe. Ground is solid green.

Would you share the BMW grip part #'s with us?
I have - left # 32-72-2-332-625, right # 32-72-2-332-626 but wanted to make sure.
Mine have been on awhile, but another member was asking.
Thanks,
Daryl

That's not the p/n I used.
This is the correct p/n to the best of my knowledge. ;)

I used the symtec heaters also. Works great.
But I installed the powerplate from electrical connection. Wired it below the aft seat. It is wired so it will go off and on with the key. The best thing is is will be for all future installs. Good up to 30amps and now everything is double fused.

curmudgeon,
Thanks for the BMW P/N - for $20 yours must be the right ones.
Sport grips I think? Some of the #'s included a throttle tube. Let me know when you get them.

Are these BMW grips any larger in diameter than the stock Honda ones? I almost ordered these from Chicago BMW but couldn't see any pics.
Thanks

OEM Honda grips are ~3 cm diameter along their length. The BMW grips are 3.4 cm at the outer end and taper to ~2.8 at the inner. The BMW measurements may be a bit higher when installed, I've got them loose right now. So yes, they're slightly bigger. It's the taper however that most people like the feel of. It seems to fit the hand better.

Curmudgeon's p#s are the same as mine and I have the grips on and they are from Chi BMW. Go for it. You will like them.

The Hitachi style connectors are what is needed for the Quartet Harness right? Which type?
Thanks!

Do you happen to recall what hooks up to the 9 wire? Is it the 12v outlet?

Thanks! One of these days I'll wire up my GPS and CB direct to harness.

I wonder if the 9 pin on the quartet is for the Euro alarm system?
Flash the signals and such?
