Update:
The event will take place in
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
on November 30th, 2007

Hi everybody,
on VicSTorm introduction entry, someone suggested a ride to Puerto Vallarta, so her we goes:
the firST and only MexSToc happened here, 10 years ago, there were just 4 STs, and only one from California, with Wayne Philips on it, (BigWayne)
so this is about time for the next one, I just come back to the ST world after a Beemer hiatus, now I appreciate the Honda even more.
as for the thread itself, the best time of the year for an event would be from November to April , no rain not heat, sunny riding days.
we do have plenty of resources, Hotels, etc. so let's start it! any suggestions for a date would be welcome.

Sounds like a good idea! I live in the Phoenix, AZ area, so it won't be that far. Are you awaiting a count of those interested and then picking a place and time?

OK; sounds like this time it will be more riders, nice.
I don't have a date yet, but I think is about time to decide with your help; could be late november or early december before tourist crowded the place and the facilities are not overpriced for the high season, let's say the last week of November , from nov. 30th to dec. 2, 3 or 4th. just for starts; but could be after new year too, as I said the best time is until april, hurricane season ends at early november, no more rain usually. but the final date depends on you more than me.

Sometime After Thanksgiving and before Christmas may work... .but I sometime in January might work better given the holiday crunch.
I might actually take this ride on my KLR....there are some nice offroad places to ride down there.....I think I need a travel partner though that speaks spanish.....I am about the whitest white-boy on the planet... ;)
I'd say pick a date that works for you and post it. I am sure there will be more people that sign up for it.

November 30 would be fine for me, I would leave Queretaro on Thursday 29th and stay in Guadalajara to travel early on the 30th to PV. I will invite my group if you don't mind, I am sure 3 or 4 guys will join in. Wifes? or just macho men?...

January is better for me.... but I think if you pick Nov, and I can't make it, I'll find another excuse to come visit you in January anyway and do "Dan-Mex-Stoc" :)
Either way, don't hold back because of me. Plant a date and "OWN" this one.
If you post it....they will come!

1st week of Dec sounds good, pending approval by the wife. I was actually planning to ride to St Louis for a friends retirement same week, but a little nervous what type weather I might hit. Mexico sounds muy better. :) I'm in Fresno, so easy ride to whatever staging point is agreed upon.

My vote would be for either October, because riding home to Montana would be pretty dang cold in November, OR Jan/Feb time slot. ?? My 3 cents.

Hello All,
Just hang up with my friend Victor Torres, a rider an co-owner of the Embarcadero Hotel at the Marina Vallarta facilities, I knew he will gave us the best deal: $ 550 pesos taxes included, all inclusive ( even beer ) on a double basis. otherwise will be $750 pesos room only for 2. those are real special prices, Hotel has 2 pools, and roofed parking place for the bikes. just to clarify this: the final date is Nov 30 to Dec..... 2 or 3.

Well Steve, this is the second STOC event here, but not the last one for sure, and I do live here so when weather improves, you are welcome, the best weather here is between Nov-May. or maybe you can do like my friend Gustavo from Portland, he take the bike before wintertime to New Mexico, then he can ride from NM to Mexico.

George, I think it was intended to be in the event list. I don't know why it isn't. Motomano is the main organizer since he lives in PV. The event will take place in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on November 30th. Up to now we are aprox. 10-15 people in. Could you help us put the event in the right forum? Thanks in advance

I'm a definite maybe at this point. I just had one of my crew give notice so I might need to cover at work.... but if I can get the time off, I'll go.
Regardless, if you want to crash on a couch at my place, George, no worries. Just PM me and let me know as I am 8 miles from the TJ boarder. :)

I really hope to get the time off to make this one. Can someone give me some info? Who is in charge?, Who organizes things?, Who is the fountain of knowledge?, How do we go about meeting up to ride? etc etc. Sorry about all the questions, but never did a "STOC" before.
Second - I've seen Nov 30 to Dec 3rd as the dates - does that mean ride down, hang out 30 to 3rd, then ride back? Or is it cross border 30th, rtn cross border the 3rd?
OK - enough questions - thanks in advance for the help and advice. And OBTW, once I confirm I can make the trip, I'm available to help out with anything.

thanks, Mellow, but why you will wait to see the pics if you can see the places for yourself, as for you Coyote, since I live here, I am in Charge, will post here my phone numbers, as well as the schedule for meeting, and ride, there are some nice places around besides the beaches; as for the time, we wait you here from Nov 30 to Dec 2 or 3 depending on your time. no hurries. as for the route I think the best is to know first who is coming and where from to decide a route. I suggest main roads, and highway where possible due the rain season there are more potholes than usual in certain secondary roads.

The idea is for you coming riders, register at the Hotel and rest for a while at the pool area, start enjoying the all inclusive plan ( Beer that is ) hopefully by 19:00 most of you will be there, I will go to the Hotel at 19:30 , then we will plan the next day ride schedule for El Tuito, a small town 30 miles south, a nice twisty road. some spectacular views, so there will be some stops for pics, in the way back we will visit a Tequila Factory, then a spectacular place, then the beach....

Stop at one of the many places that advertise Mexican insurance in all the border towns on your way to the border. You purchase it for the period of time you will be in Mexico. The transaction takes about 15 minutes. You cannot enter Mexico without, your US policy is not enough. It is 3rd party liability insurance, it is not for risks to you or your motorcycle.

Thanks for your support, now it has been 9 days since surgery, left leg broke in 8 pieces, needed some metal parts and a bone donation to fill a hole, right hand got just a simple broke at the second metatarsian.
couldn't see the ST, but my brother rode it to his home 5 miles away, he say the bike handles good, both mirrors gone, good scratches,on the plastic, saddle bags included, seems to be all.
the accident happened like this: I was coming back from Mexico City to Metepec 40 miles away, 8:30 pm, I was in the heavy traffic, a river of red lights moving around 60 mph, I was braking as the traffic and the downhill highway demanded with no problem, then I switched lane to lane to the left one in order to look for the sign for my brother's street, traffic ahead brake, I shall do the same, next thing was me on the air, hitting the pavement, rolling, bike keep sliding. brother said there is the spot where heavy traffic shall leave the main road and take the sideways, he is sure there was oil and diesel spilled around, don't know, never ride in ice, but the sensation must be the same, ABS I think would make me to rear crash the car ahead. got tired for keep writing now, but I am back in home, so will be in touch.
regards and thanks again for your wishes and prays.

Thanks, but at the moment the bike will be far at my bro home, I got an offer from a friend to transport the bike to Guadalajara or León, but for the moment I am more concerned of my documentation, I lost all ID;CC; payroll card, etc, so will start to got everything back, get the medical certificate for not working maybe 6 to 8 weeks, this weekend several riders come from Leon to Vallarta, will ask for help from one of them, my friend Jorge, ST1300 owner too, if he agreed with his help I could ship the bike to him and fix the bike in Leon City, but need someone who knows about watch the bike before order any part, for sure both mirror covers gone, in Mexico it is affordable to repair the plastic parts done before. let's see within a week or so.
All your ID is gone! That is bad! Good luck getting all of it straightened out!
Repairing is a good way to go if you can find someone that can do the work.
Good luck,
Mark

Thanks Mark, there are a good way to repair plastic in some places, it is affordable because all the parts usually comes from US, so they are pretty expensive, this combined with a way cheaper labor fee, make this a good option, I think in a few days will ask my brother Mario to take a few shots from the bike, to appreciate the damage, and then ask for help from Jorge, I think there is a place where you can download the plastic part numbers somewhere. as for my ID, I found a few ones at home, old but legal, and I just got back at the bank my ATM access card. just need to go to the bank again with the manager to allow me for the internet transactions again.
see ya!
