View Full Version : Aux Turn Signal Indicators - Any Ideas?
I have added a Ron Smith dash to my ST. I absolutely LOVE the dash and have my iPod and Escort mounted on it. However at 6' with 30" inseam...yes I am built like an orangutan...the dash has now totally blocked my view of the stock blinker indicators. Its not the dashes fault by any means...the indicators were partially blocked without the dash in place.
So...here I am stewing and schemeing a way to mount/wire some sort of auxillary turn signal indicators. I have toyed with mounting some leds and wiring it into the front turn signal...but I am a little unsure of the wiring (hoping that my new shop manual at the dealer can shed some light on this). Still...there are a talented pool of fellow farklers (that just sounds rude =)) so I thought I would ask and see if someone had an interesting idea or two.
TIA!

One more note: if you use the right size drill, the amount of plastic you remove is almost nothing (it's more like opening up the slot) and the LED's slip right in no adhesive needed. You might want to experiment on a scrap piece of plastic. I put two on each side. Have fun!!

But perhaps a more elegant solution - no cutting required.

Whichever you do, you need to connect with detachable connectors so the mirrors can come off without being attached to the mirror covers.

Hey I'm curious to see a picture of your dash and the things you mounted. I'm finally mounting my crap on the shelf so I'm looking for ideas.
Please share a few pics if you can.

As promised. =)
As you can see I put a ram ball above and below the shelf where I hooked up my ipod...when I am carrying my FRS it goes on this ball. I dont use it regularly so its not perma-mounted.
Having run all my wires up front...I left a little slack in them...and for now I have small grommets running up through the dash. I have several panel mount interconnects on order from Accessory Workshop that I will eventually install in the dash and build a patch cable for the accessory in question on the other side. This will make for a very clean install and enable me to uninstall the accessories and still have a very clean look up front.
You can see these interconnects here:

If you're looking for some right angled audio cables you might want to email John Brown at Mix-It products or check out his site:

On the Mixit website, they state that their GPS cable is only guaranteed to work with their unit.
Is anyone using the Mixit GPS cable to connect a Garmin 2610 to a Starcom?
Does anyone know how long the Mixit GPS cable is?
TIA
